EMI1.1

Process for the etching of colored textile fibers by means of hydrosulfite.
The parent patent No. 24701 describes a process for etching dyed textile fibers, which consists in producing the printing paste with alkali hydrosulfites which are free of water of crystallization and such amounts of caustic alkali that the hydrosulfite remains completely or mainly undissolved.
It has now been found that very durable printing inks can also be obtained if hydrosulphites and sugars, syrups or the like free of water of crystallization are used for their production. The durability of these etching pastes is excellent despite the presence of water, and it is not necessary that the hydrosulphite used is completely or mainly undissolved.
A major advantage of the new printing pastes is that they provide excellent etching effects even in the absence of alkali. This is of great technical importance, since working with alkaline printing inks, which in addition cannot be used on animal fibers, has certain inconveniences, and since the alkali, especially when used in concentrated form, is detrimental to the etching effect Has an influence on the decomposition products of some azo dyes to be corrosive.
Even in the complete absence of free alkali on naphthylamine bordeaux, etc., the present process produces very excellent etching effects with great ease.
Of course, the present method can also be combined with that of the parent patent no. 24701.
The procedure is explained using the following example:
Preparation of the etching paste:
EMI1.1
and steamed and rinsed as usual for a few minutes. Instead of syrup you can also use cane sugar or other types of sugar.
