Process for the purification of gases containing arsenic chlorine compounds and other impurities in a vaporous state.
The German patent no. 179513 discloses a process for the purification of arsenic chlorine compounds and other gases containing impurities in a vaporous state, in particular hydrochloric acid gases coming from the sulfate ovens.
When carrying out this process, it has now emerged that the mineral oils used for cleaning change within a short time during operation in the direction that chlorine enters the hydrocarbons. The consequence of this is that the oils lose their cleaning properties and also become specifically heavier than water. The further consequence is that one has to use considerable amounts of 01 for cleaning a certain amount of gas.
The present invention aims to remedy this drawback. It is based on the observation that the rapid change in the cleansing oils is due to the relatively high temperature at which the gases leave the sulphate furnace and meet the oil and that this change is reduced to a lesser degree the further you go Gases cools. According to the present method, one proceeds in such a way that the gases are cooled after they have left the sulphate furnace and before they come into contact with the cleaning oil.
When cooling down to the usual temperature, the said change in the cleaning oil is reduced so that it is no longer operationally relevant and, due to the low consumption of mineral oil that this causes, produces an operationally and economically good result.
