Process for the preparation of a leuco compound from gallocyanine.
In the German patent specification No. 108550 a method is described for the preparation of the leukot bodies of the gallocyanins by reducing the gallocyanine dyes. According to the information in German Patent No. 164320, the same compounds are formed by electrolytic reduction. In the first-mentioned patent it is stated that all common reducing agents, both acidic and alkaline, use the same reduction product, i. H. the leuco derivatives of gallocyanine constituents.
It has now been found that a new steering body with different properties can be obtained if one expediently, among other things, specifically the gallocyanine from gallic acid and nitrosodimethylaniline with alkaline reducing agents
EMI1.1
Time than it takes for the leuco body to form, warmed. The higher the temperature used for the reduction, the faster the reaction takes place. The end point of the reaction can be recognized very clearly by the fact that there is a sample of the leuco body formed
EMI1.2
sharp from the corresponding leuco compound of German Patent No. 108550; when it is oxidized, the unchanged starting product, gallocyanine, is recovered, which, as is well known, dissolves in soda and is soluble in hydrochloric acid of 220 bp. with a red color.
The new leuco compound also differs from the leuco gallocyanine in German patent specification No. 108550 in that it is more soluble and has the ability to develop into the chromium varnish of the dye considerably more easily when printed.
Example.
EMI1.3
one has convinced oneself that a sample after acidification with hydrochloric acid, filtration, neutralization of the filtrate with soda and oxidation with air is insoluble in soda and the separated dye in hydrochloric acid of 220 Be. goes into solution with a pure blue color, the reaction liquid is acidified with hydrochloric acid, the sulfur that has separated out is filtered off, and the leuco compound is salted out with common salt. It is usually called
