The invention relates to a self-supporting component made of mineral aggregates and a
Binder and a process for its preparation.
The term component includes all types of masonry and cap stones and all profiles, but in particular facing bricks and step plates, but also pipes, pipe parts and the like. like understood.
The invention is based on the object of usefully utilizing thermoplastic plastics that can no longer be used and waste from these plastics. Most of the waste is industrial
To understand waste that occurs in large quantities and essentially in the same composition and purity.
However, it is also possible to use thermoplastic waste from trade and household. In this case it is mostly necessary to sort the plastic waste according to the chemical composition of the
Sorting plastics and cleaning them if necessary. Instead of the waste, the plastics themselves can also be used.
It has now been found that thermoplastic plastics or waste thereof are used as binders in
Construction elements made of mineral aggregates such as sand, gravel, crushed stone and the like Like. Can be used.
The self-supporting components according to the invention are therefore characterized in that they are
Binder for the mineral aggregates forming the structure of the building element, such as sand, gravel or
Gravel, a solidified melt of thermoplastics, especially plastic waste, contain. To produce these components, according to the invention, thermoplastic plastic waste is melted and the melt is protected in molds which are filled with mineral additives. The
Melt runs through this bed of aggregates and binds the aggregates into one when it solidifies
Component, for example for facing bricks or step plates. This approach has proven particularly useful at
Tried and tested aggregates with an average grain size of over about 5 mm.
In the case of aggregates with an average grain size of less than about 5 mm, the packing of the individual grains in the mold can become too tight, so that the plastic melt can only poorly flow through the bed of the aggregate. In this case, the additives are stirred into the melt and mixed with it. The mixture is then poured into the mold. Edged or rounded materials are suitable as aggregate in all cases.
Dyes, plasticizers, stabilizers and the like can be added to the melt in a known manner. Like. Be added.
The addition of plasticizers can prove to be particularly useful, since the plasticizers present volatilize when melting. The solidified melt, and thus also the component according to the invention, can then be insufficiently elastic and too brittle. However, the effect of the plasticizer is lost when exposed to UV radiation. Since components such. B. Step plates exposed to sunlight would soon make them brittle.
It has now been found that permanent elasticity of the binding agent or the component can be achieved if the thermoplastic plastic used is an atactic plastic, in particular atactic polypropylene, or at least contains proportions of atactic plastics, preferably atactic polypropylene.
The amount of these atactic proportions depends not only on the intended use of the component, but also on the type, quantity and grain size of the aggregates used and can easily be determined by simple orientation experiments.
Synthetic fibers can also be added to the components to increase the strength. For this purpose, plastic fibers are used that do not melt themselves at the temperature of the melt. The addition is expediently made to the aggregates.
When the thermoplastic waste is melted, waste from different plastics can also be melted together if their melting points are at most 15 to 25 C, preferably at most 10 to 200 C.
It is a great advantage for the method according to the invention if aggregates with as uniform a grain size as possible are used; That is, if the size of the individual grain deviates only slightly from the respective mean value of the grain size. In this case, particularly good binding of the additives and increased strength of the component are achieved.
The structural elements according to the invention also have a number of advantages in that they enable the recycling of thermoplastic plastic waste. Depending on how the process is carried out, at least the front side of the component, which corresponds in shape to the top side, can have a plastic surface that is not interrupted by aggregates. Such building elements can be used as facing bricks that do not have to be plastered. Such stones are particularly suitable for the facing of masonry insulated with bitumen and / or roofing felt, which lies below the ground and in which the insulating covering is to be protected from damage. Facing bricks of this type can be produced by the method according to the invention much larger than was customary up to now.
By using these large components, the working time is significantly reduced. The facing bricks can be grooved on one side.

The structural elements according to the invention can be glued and welded and thus connected to form watertight masonry. The manufacturing process is simple and does not require any special apparatus or devices.
The invention is not limited to the use of plastic waste, but the plastics can also be used as such.
