<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

The invention relates to a method for solidifying powdery additives or alloys according to the preamble of claim 1.
In the manufacture of steels there is a need to add aggregates and alloys to a melt, these substances often being in powder form. In order to avoid undesirable reactions during the addition, these additives and alloys are added to the melt in a solidified state.
In the processes known hitherto, the powdery aggregates and alloys are solidified under high pressure to form pellets or pillows.
However, there is the disadvantage that this type of consolidation requires a very high expenditure of energy and that the consolidation device has to meet the highest demands with regard to abrasion. In addition, the pelletcs produced in this way are not particularly resistant to abrasion, so that there are considerable losses in the handling of the pellets.
The aim of the invention is to avoid these disadvantages and to propose a method of the type mentioned at the outset which enables the solidification of additives and alloys present in powder form with little energy.
According to the invention, this is achieved in a method of the type mentioned at the outset by the characterizing features of claim 1.
The proposed measures in a simple manner ensure a very safe setting of the powdery additives and alloys. Only a small amount of energy is required, which is essentially due to the mixing of the binder with the alloy or
Aggregates is required. The binder can be any binder, e.g. B. also act plastics, bitumen or the like.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The use of binders also has the advantage that the molded parts produced in this way have a correspondingly high abrasion resistance, or the abrasion resistance and the strength of the molded part can be adjusted according to the respective needs or customer requirements. In the case of the molded parts produced in accordance with the proposed method, exposure to dust and loss of alloying substances can therefore be avoided to a very large extent when they are handled.
The molded parts can be produced from the mixed paste-like mass produced with binder using the methods known from the production of artificial and concrete blocks, as described, for example, in FIG. B. in the production of shaped stones for fastening paths and. Like. Be used.
However, it is particularly advantageous to provide the features of claim 2.
Hydraulic binders can be brought into a pasty state by simply adding water, without there being any significant need for energy supply.
The use of cement and / or silicate also has the advantage that the calcium content of the cement or silicates means that the melt is freed of any residual impurities such as sulfur and phosphorus that may be present. In addition, silicates are an excellent slag generator.
The use of cement with different qualities and a variation in the added cement content allows the abrasion resistance and the strength of the molded parts to be adapted to the respective requirements within wide limits.
EMI2.1
Non-oxidic aggregates and alloys that are difficult to bind can be safely processed into molded parts. Since only a relatively small amount of dispersion needs to be added, only a relatively small amount of carbon is introduced into the melt.
It is advantageous to provide the features of claims 4 and 5 for the alloying materials used very frequently in steel production, such as nickel oxide and ferrochrome.
When solidifying non-oxide additives or alloys, it is advantageous to provide the features of claim 6.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
These measures make it easy to achieve a reliable wetting of the particles to be solidified.
Basically, in addition to the alloys already mentioned, such as nickel oxide and ferrochrome, all the other additives and alloys can also be solidified by the process according to the invention. In this context, for example, fly ash, slag, gout dust, etc. referred.
Example 1: A mass consisting of 25% by weight of cement and 65% by weight of nickel oxide powder was mixed with 10% by weight of water and the paste-like mass produced in this way was poured into a mold and left to dry. The molded body obtained in this way was distinguished by high strength and high abrasion resistance and can be handled without any problems and introduced into a melt.
Example 2: A mass consisting of 15% by weight of cement, 10% by weight of silicate and 65% by weight of nickel oxide powder was mixed with 10% by weight of water and the paste-like mass produced in this way was poured into a mold and left to dry. The molded body obtained in this way was distinguished by high strength and high abrasion resistance and can be handled without any problems and introduced into a melt.
Example 3: A mass consisting of 25% by weight of cement, 5% by weight of dispersion (acrylic dispersion) as an adhesion promoter and 60% by weight of ferrochrome powder was mixed with 10% by weight of water and the paste-like mass thus produced was put into a mold poured and left to dry. The shaped body thus obtained has a high strength and a high abrasion resistance and can therefore be handled without problems and introduced into a melt.
