Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

   The invention relates to an outsole for winter sports equipment, consisting of a hard material layer applied to a carrier material by vacuum coating. Furthermore, the invention relates to a ski consisting of an outsole connected to a base body.

   The treads of modern alpine and cross-country skis mainly consist of polyethylene, with polyethylene being used as extrudate or sintered material, depending on the construction and price range. There are differences in the molecular weight of the polyethylene used, which serves as an essential factor for the sliding properties and for the machining of the tread.

  Practical tests have shown that the inhomogeneity of the covering material available, the additional change in the degree of crystallinity of the polyethylene during ski bonding and the abrasion of the abrasive during the tread manufacture lead to different sliding properties despite the same construction, ski length or type of covering.

   Attempts to achieve better sliding properties on skis are reflected in many patent documents. DD 276 238 A1 discloses a ski with improved sliding properties, in which an adaptation to different snow conditions is to be achieved by interchangeable aluminum-based metal foils. An aluminum foil with a thickness of 100 micrometers is used, which is annealed, degreased and then coated with a PTFE suspension. To stabilize the metal foil is provided with a primer, the film also contains a pressure sensitive adhesive, which is covered with a layer of silicone paper. If necessary, the rolled outsole is rolled up. The silicone paper layer peeled off and glued on the ski.

   Both the manufacture and the use of the outsole according to DD 276 238 A1 are economically very complex and have not found their way into practice.

   A ski is known from US Pat. No. 3,395,928 A in which the entire outsole has a porcelain-like enamel coating which is applied to a metal plate connected to the ski body made of wood. However, the wear resistance of this coating is very low. Furthermore, there is a risk that the bending stress that occurs when the ski is used, as a result of the large-area coating on the entire underside, will lead to chipping, or at least to cracks in the coating.

   A ski is known from CH 271 670 A which has a tread, preferably made of light metal. However, there is a risk that the tread will be detached from the ski body. Furthermore, the low wear resistance of the metallic alloys, especially aluminum, is insufficient for the stresses on snow and ice slopes.

   EP 249 895 A2 discloses a ski with a sliding surface on the outsole side, delimited by lateral reinforcing edges, made of ceramic material, in which a sliding surface made of fully ceramic sintered shaped bodies or made of aluminum oxide, zirconium oxide, silicon carbide, silicon nitride or in the area of the front and / or rear sliding zone Silicon aluminum moxinitrite or titanium carbide, titanium nitride coated metallic base plates is built. The sintered shaped bodies embedded in the sliding zones are intended to form a sliding surface which, owing to the high hardness of the sintered shaped bodies used, has extraordinarily good wear resistance and excellent sliding properties. The elements are non-positively and / or positively attached to the outsole.

  Skis constructed in this way are very costly to produce. The tread, which is made up of several individual parts, is exposed to extreme loads when using the skis, which leads to tension between the tread parts. Different elasticity properties due to the multi-part structure of the outsole have a negative impact on skiing behavior and ski stability.

   From DE 40 16 267 A1 a sliding sole is known which has a sliding coating made of plastic, in which metal particles made of a high-alloy material with a high hardness are incorporated. This solution is intended to achieve both improved sliding properties and abrasion resistance. The volume fraction of the metal particles should be between 10 and 90 percent, the metal particles having a grain size between 1 and 200 micrometers.

   From DE 34 39 682 A1 a reinforcement insert made of a metal body, preferably spring steel, is known, which is embedded in a plastic ski and is said to give the ski improved strength.

   To improve the sliding properties, the German utility model reveals

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 G 93 06 987.1 a heatable ski consisting of at least two layers, in which a heating wire embedded in a plastic film is arranged between the bottom layer, which forms the outsole covering, and the top layer. The heating wire is to be operated via a battery arranged on the top of the ski.

   JP 09-313662 A proposes a ski whose sliding surface is coated with carbon by placing the entire ski in a vapor deposition chamber. The sliding surface of the basic ski body is then coated. Masking problems arise here, since the entire ski is exposed to vapor deposition, but only a partial area is to be selectively coated.

   JP 11-164930 A proposes coating the sliding surface of a ski, snowboard or the like with metal or carbon or metal with carbon as an adhesion promoter, for which purpose various methods are specified.

   The object of the invention is to provide an outsole and a ski with an outsole with improved sliding properties.

   According to the invention, the object is achieved by an outsole which consists of a hard material layer of a metal nitride or metal carbide or metal carbonitride applied to a carrier material by vacuum coating or an inhomogeneous coating with a gradient which consists of the transition of several of the aforementioned compounds and / or carbon.

   The hard material layer preferably consists of a nitride or carbide or carbonitride of the metals zirconium or titanium or chromium or hafnium and the carrier material consists of a stainless steel spring band with a thickness of 0.05 to 0.2 mm. If the hard material layer also contains carbon, a primer made of a metal nitride or metal carbide or metal carbonitride is expedient on the carrier material.

   In a preferred embodiment, an insulating intermediate layer made of an inorganic oxide is arranged between the carrier material and the hard material layer. The insulating intermediate layer opens up the possibility of heating the hard material layer by passing current through direct or alternating voltage, in particular HF voltage or pulsed current feed. For this purpose, the hard material layer has corresponding electrical connections.

   Hard and insulating intermediate layers are applied by reactive coating in a vacuum. The layer thickness of the hard material layer is 0.5 to 10 µm, preferably 1 to 2 µm.

  For this purpose, a prefabricated and profiled outsole is coated in a high vacuum evaporation system. Profiling and dimensioning can also be done after coating.

   The profiling of the outsole used, for example, in ski jumps by milling fine structures to improve the tear-off of the water film, is achieved by appropriate profiling of the stainless steel strip with z. B. profile rollers, embossing tools or with cutting tools before hardening and steaming.

   In an advantageous embodiment of the invention, the outsole provided with a hard material layer is aftertreated by ion beam with nitrogen or carbon ions. This results in an improved bond between the applied sliding layer and the carrier material, which brings about an improvement in the sliding friction properties.

   The support material is coated on both sides to relieve tension, especially with stainless steel spring straps. The deposition conditions are chosen so that the side facing the ski body has a higher roughness due to droplet deposits.

   Due to its coating, the outsole according to the invention has a significantly improved lubricity, which can be further improved by heating.

   According to the invention, the ski with an improved outsole consists of an outsole according to the invention connected to a base body. The outsole is attached to the base with a suitable pressure sensitive adhesive.

   The invention is explained in more detail using the following exemplary embodiments:
Embodiment 1
Ski with a stainless steel sole with a TiN coating
From a stainless steel spring band X7 CrNiAl 17. 7 No. 1. 4568 with a spring band thickness of 0.11 mm, an outsole is cut taking into account the dimensions for the ski and a roller profile to create a needle structure to improve water demolition

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 fed. The prefabricated outsole is placed in a high vacuum evaporation system and provided with a TiN coating. This is followed by post-processing with regard to the guide marks and the size compared to the finished ski size. The outsole thus produced is glued to a jumping ski base body in a sandwich construction with a profiled running side by means of a pressure sensitive adhesive.

   Embodiment 2
Ski with a stainless steel sole with a sliding layer with heating
Analogous to embodiment 1, an outsole is prepared from a stainless steel spring band X7 CrNiAl 17. 7 No. 1.4568, taking into account the dimensions for the ski and the necessary profiles in the running area. This outsole is placed in a high vacuum evaporation system, where first an insulating intermediate layer made of an inorganic oxide and then a hard material layer made of metal nitride or metal carbide or metal carbonitride is evaporated. The outsole coated in this way has electrical connections at its ends for feeding in an HF voltage. The outsole thus produced is glued to a jumping ski base in a sandwich construction with a profiled running side by means of a pressure sensitive adhesive.

   The electrical connections are routed inwards and connected to an RF voltage generator arranged in the base of the ski and a voltage source.
