Process for leaching lime or, at the same time, also magnesia-containing, raw copper carbonate-containing ores.

It has been found that naturally occurring copper ores, especially carbonates such as malachite and glaze, can be converted into copper hydroxide by treatment with a dilute solution of potassium or sodium hydroxide. But copper hydroxide is known to be soluble in various organic substances, for example in tartaric salts; Grape and cane sugar and also in glycerine. So you can extract the copper from ores containing copper carbonate if you treat them with a dilute, sodium-containing solution of one of these organic substances, and this solution occurs when the ore is appropriately crushed in the cold, but more quickly when it is gently heated - to 40 up to 50 C - a.

Tartaric acid salts also dissolve some lime, albeit in small amounts; Sugar shows a somewhat reduced solubility: most suitable - also with regard to the

containing copper and besides always a precipitation of copper oxide (about 10% of copper).

Both are melted down with the addition of a small amount of coal and, after a short refining, poured into molds.

The regeneration of the solution, which the latter contains sodium carbonate according to the carbonic acid content of the copper carbonates, is done by adding enough caustic soda to restore the original content of 10%. Has the lye gradually changed like this
 EMI1.2
ability towards the copper, just as then on the other hand no lime goes into solution.
