Description

Method and device for cutting the tips and shaping the heads of nails in nailing machines.

The object of the invention is a method and a device for producing nails and pins from wire with a four-sided cut point, in which no waste is produced.

While the previously used knives cut the fed piece of wire transversely below the tip of the nail to be formed, so that the excess parts fell off when the point was formed, the shape of the new knife is changed so that these parts remain on the fed piece of wire and nnt for the formation of the head of the next nail can be used.

edges a,) and al. . Two triangular surfaces are created between the two cutting edges. The outer shoulders of the cutting edges are bevelled in such a way that the knives only meet at one point at the point. The wire is brought between the knives and these are brought together. so the cutting edges only push out the nail tip and the excess wire parts d remain on the fed piece of wire (Fig. 1).

These tips can be pressed together by two pressing jaws e (Fig. 2).

This is followed by a punch y, which has a die on one side, a pre-compression (Fig.: -! And 4) and then the continued compression of the head (Fig. 5), the piece of wire being held in a known manner.

Instead of pressing the tips together by the pressing jaws, the die g

head is pre-compressed. A special pre-compression can also be omitted when using the press jaws.

In order to avoid that the pressure of the cutting edges acts too strongly against one another and that they become blunt as a result, surfaces h can be left which, when the knives are brought together, butt against one another and absorb the pressure.
 EMI1.3

1. A method for producing nails and pins from wire without waste, characterized in that when the shank is sharpened at the end of the wire, lobes are engaged which are bent together laterally and compressed in the direction of the wire towards the following nail head.
