the nipple is widened at this point, creating a tight connection with the main line in the manner shown in FIG. is achieved.
At the front end of the mandrel is provided with an incision 6 for receiving the tooth 7 of a key 8 (FIG. 10, which tooth can be inserted loosely and freely with the key 8 into the nipple 1. The key 8 is long enough to still to protrude beyond the outer end of the nipple 1 when the tooth 7 engages in the incision 6 of the mandrel in its lowest position and has a square head 9 for a tightening device.
When the key 8 is turned to screw the mandrel 4 into the nipple I, an attempt is made to screw the nipple even more tightly into the main line by virtue of the opposite thread on the nipple.

reduced by its strength at this point and its expansion is facilitated by the cone 5. In FIGS. 6 and 7, the diameter of the cone at its narrowest point is somewhat larger than the outer diameter of its thread.
So that the expansion of the nipple in the apex of the main line is sufficiently large, the nipple J is expediently provided with two diametrically opposed incisions 11 at the end reaching into the main line in the manner shown in FIGS. which, when the nipple is screwed into the main conduit, is in a direction parallel to the axis of the conduit.
According to the invention, these incisions are of such a depth that they do not extend beyond the outer surface 12 of the main pipe when the nipple is screwed in, so that the liquid or gas cannot escape through these incisions from the main pipe, whereby a packing is superfluous.
In Fig. 11 and 12, another embodiment of a Drehschlü.aeis is shown. This consists of a cylindrical shaft 8, which is inserted into the bore of the dome I and at a certain distance from its lower end with lateral approaches:? J is provided to engage in the cutouts 6. During the expansion of the nipple, the stem S fills this bore and prevents the escape of liquid from the main line. If necessary: -: the shaft 8 can be provided with a packing.
The mandrel 4 remains in the nipple 1 as long as the latter is in the main line, so that the nipple cannot be compressed to the detriment of the tightness of the connection. This device does not use any loose parts that could fall into the main line while the nipple is being attached, or afterwards.
