Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

  Process for cleaning used woolen goods in made-up condition.

   As is known, items of clothing, blankets and the like made of wool or semi-wool which have become dirty through use cannot be washed with soap and water, since the soap causes the wool to felt, shrink and shrink. The cleaning of such goods is usually done by soaking them in warm gasoline. This process does not produce satisfactory results, because the gasoline only dissolves the fatty impurities without removing them completely, while the other impurities remain unaffected at all, since there is no mechanical action whatsoever. In addition, because of the volatility of gasoline, closed vessels have to be used and, because of the flammability and explosibility of this liquid or the mixture of its vapors with air, there is a constant risk of fire.

   The invention now makes it possible to wash finished garments or blankets and the like without first separating them with water - which may also contain soap or other grease solvents - using pressure and friction, without the frowning felting and shrinking of the woolen material. This effect is achieved by adding an earthy cleaning agent such as clay or Letten to the washing water. If the goods are subjected to a dulling, knocking, pressing or squeezing action in suitable devices in the presence of water and the earthy substance, the earthy parts are pressed deep into the pores of the goods, and one comes through the Rubbing the surfaces of the goods together significantly facilitates cleaning without any matting.

   The use of Hämmermascbinen and fulling mills for cleaning coarse cotton fabrics, z. B. Worker's laundry is known, and the cleaning effect of pipe clay is known and has long been used to remove grease stains from fabrics. After all, certain types of clay, fulling earth, are used when the cloth fabric is fulled to remove the various impurities. The invention therefore consists in the combination of known measures, for the purpose of removing stains and dirt of all kinds quickly and in large quantities from finished woolen garments with water, using pressure and rubbing that promote cleaning.

   From what has been said above, the practical implementation of the method results automatically. The soiled items of clothing are after they have been separated from
Buttons, buckles and the like. For example, inserted into the hollow of a crank mill and poured over a watery clay pulp. The tamping or hammering device is then put into operation and after about an hour the washing liquid is displaced
