Verfahren zur G e w i n n u n g v o n B e t a i n s a l z e n.

Method for A w i n n g o f B e t a i n s a l z e n.
The parent patent No. 70875 showed that betaine can be obtained from molasses, molasses pulp or other processes in beet sugar production by removing water from the starting material as far as possible in a vacuum, then adding concentrated hydrochloric acid, avoiding excessive heating, and then cooling it Causes betaine chlorohydrate to be excreted.
A certain difficulty in the process mentioned is to avoid overheating of the thickened mass when it is mixed with hydrochloric acid.
In further processing of the area it has now been found that the above-mentioned difficulty can be eliminated if the betaine-containing starting material is weakly acidified from the start and only now at a moderate temperature, e.g. B. at 50 to 600, evaporated in vacuo until abundant crystals begin to separate from the warm solution.
While the vinasse acidified with hydrochloric acid is evaporated under normal pressure, as is known, humic substances are formed, which darken the crystallizing betaine chlorohydrate, the present process gives a concentrated solution free of humic substances, from which the crude betaine chlorohydrate is mixed on cooling mainly with inorganic salts, which then crystallizes out in the same known manner as in the method of the parent patent, e.g. B. is purified by dissolving from methyl alcohol and crystallizing from water. For faster separation, you can add concentrated hydrochloric acid to the evaporated solution, e.g.
B. 100/0 of the original weight of 37- to 38% hydrochloric acid, and then cool. The present modification of the process of the parent patent not only allows betaine-containing material to be processed more safely and conveniently, but also leads to higher yields.
