Type lever movement device for typewriters.
The invention relates to type lever moving devices for typewriters, in which the key lever, which is pressed down by hand, is connected by a cleat joint to a pull rod, the other end of which is connected to the type lever by another cleat joint. The peculiarity of the invention consists in that a spring is inserted between the aforementioned pull rod and the type lever, - which is tensioned when the button lever is depressed and then returns both this and the pull rod and the type arm to their starting positions.
An embodiment of the invention is shown in the drawing.
A stand 12 is attached to the base 11 of the machine, the upper end of which is fork-shaped and has a transverse pin. 13 has around which a key arm can rotate.
This has in a known way on the front end the key M with the name of the type; its rear end is bent upwards at an angle and connected to one end of a tie rod 17 by a cleat joint 16. The other end of the tie rod 17 is connected by a cleat joint 18 to the type arm 19 which, in a known manner, has an incision 20 which surrounds the pivot 21. The type is attached to the end of the type arm 19. The type arm 19 usually rests on a soft stop 23. A spring 24 is arranged between the pull rod 17 and the type arm 19.
One end of the same is guided through a hole 25 in the tie rod 17 in the immediate vicinity of the cleat joint 18, while the other end is hooked into a hole 26 provided in a projection of the type arm 19. 27 is the usual ebonite roller over which the paper to be written on is guided.
When a pressure is exerted against the button 16, the arm 14 rotates into the position shown with dotted lines. This movement is transmitted by the pull rod 17 to the type arm 19, which is rotated through an angle of approximately 900 about the pivot pin 21 until the type 22 strikes against the roller 27. As a result of this movement, the spring 24 is stretched, but only by a few millimeters, since the distance between the hole 25 and the pivot of the cleat joint 18 is only very small. When the pressure against the button 15 ceases, the spring 24, by contracting to its original length, will return all the organs to their previous position, which is illustrated in the drawing by full lines.
The arrangement described offers the following advantages.
- All moving parts are very short and have only a small mass, so that the movement can take place quickly. Only a single spring is needed to return all parts to their original position after a key has been pressed, and this spring is arranged between two movable o: gans so that it is independent of fixed support points. Incidentally, the spring is attached in such a way that its expansion and contraction are only a few millimeters, with the result that the durability of the spring becomes great.
The hole 25 for the attachment of the spring 24 can be provided instead of in the pull rod 17 in the type arm 19 in the vicinity of the cleat joint 18; the hole 26 is then arranged in a projection of the pull rod 17.
