Vacuum tube for great performance.
In the parent patent no. 87575 a vacuum tube for high performance is described, in which the anode is designed in the form of a tube to allow the entry of a coolant, and so to enable the vacuum tube for higher performance.
The present invention aims to make this cooling even more effective. that the anode is designed as a tube which is closed at one end and which is arranged axially in the vacuum tube, the interior of this tube being in communication with the atmosphere and being provided with an inlet and outlet line for a coolant.
Such an anode is kept slightly cool by the flow of a coolant, for example water, the construction of the vacuum tube being very simple, insofar as the usual grid electrode is arranged around the anode tube and the thread electrode is arranged outside the grid electrode. FIG. 1 of the drawing illustrates an embodiment of the vacuum tube in perspective, with individual parts thereof being illustrated in section. Fig. 2 is a cross section taken along line 2-2 in Fig. I.
The evacuated vessel 1 contains three electrodes, a thread electrode 2, a grid 3 and an anode 4, as is customary in an audion. The anode has the shape of a metal tube 4 which is arranged axially in the vacuum tube and to which a glass tube 10 is attached; this is fused with the glass wall of the vacuum tube at the foot and comes out of the tube there. This arrangement, by which the interior of the cylindrical anode can be maintained at approximately atmospheric pressure and a coolant can be introduced, offers a simple and effective means of preventing the anode from being heated by the electron bombardment from the cathode. The cooling takes place in such a way that the coolant is supplied through a line 5.
A constant circulation of the coolant is obtained in that it is introduced by means of the line 5 and exits from the space between the line 5 and the anode tube 4 or vice versa.
The thread 2 and the grid 3 can be made in any suitable form. In the arrangement shown, the thread consists of a number of wires connected in parallel which form a cylindrical network around the anode and are held by glass columns 8, 8. As can be seen, the grid consists of a metallic conductor which is helically wound around the anode plate -1, but is isolated from it.
The nature and arrangement of the grid and thread is not essential to the present invention, so that other forms of grid and thread can be used in place of those described herein without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Fig. 2 shows in cross section the mutual position of the three electrodes of the vacuum tube.
The invention can be embodied in various forms, it does not matter whether the lower part of the anode tube is made of glass or not. This lower part plays a minor role for the electrode function in the tube and only serves as a passage for the cooling liquid.
