Process for the production of calories from gypsum.

Attempts have already been made to reduce finely ground gypsum to calcium sulphide by adding charcoal or by transferring gases. However, this reduction requires the previous fine grinding of the plaster of paris to be used and thus the installation of a fine grinding apparatus, whereby the resulting finished product is burdened with considerable costs. When using ground plaster of paris for heating, one is bound to certain furnace systems, which are in themselves expensive and the handling of which is difficult for the intended purpose and the mode of operation is quite inefficient.

In contrast, it has been recognized that, under suitable conditions, gypsum can also be reduced in lumpy form and without any prior drying, dewatering and fine grinding with the correct choice of temperature range and with the use of suitable gases. For this, it is necessary that the furnace in question enables a certain temperature limit to be maintained.

As a reducing agent, all gases are suitable which have a powerful reducing effect, e.g. B. Hydrogen, carbon monoxide, methane and other high temperature gaseous hydrocarbons and organic compounds.

All lumpy forms of calcium sulfate are suitable as starting material for the reduction, i.e. natural gypsum stone, natural anhydrite, old processed plaster, model plaster, screed plaster, etc.
