Protection arrangement against the risk of explosion for belt, rope or similar drives.

In all those establishments; Where there are gases that can give rise to explosions, special precautions are required to avoid or reduce the risk of explosion to a minimum. These precautions include, among other things, the artificial ventilation of the operating rooms and the firedamp-proof encapsulation of those parts that could give rise to ignition strikes through spark formation, etc. Such protective measures do not always offer sufficient safety or are not always in place.

In the case of earth drilling for oil and gas, for example, there are peculiar conditions due to the special operating mode, which consists in the fact that the working machine (drilling crane) in the drilling tower near the borehole is used for the particular work process
 EMI1.1
must be operated from a distant stationary power shaft (electric motor, gas engine).

Here are now according to the invention with adaptation to these peculiar conditions
 EMI1.2
Gases from the gas-filled machine room hit into the space of the power wave.

This power wave was previously often a steam engine, the operation of which required relatively few precautionary measures against the risk of ignition, but was very uneconomical. Economically better, but requiring special precautions against the risk of explosion, are electric or gas motors, especially where large drilling depths are required
 EMI1.3
the following arrangement forming the subject of the invention can now be made.

In the drawing, FIG. 1 shows the elevation, and FIG. 2 shows the floor plan of a derrick including an engine compartment. B is the borehole, K is the drilling crankshaft, V is an intermediate transmission, if necessary, M is the motor booth, E is the electric motor, Rg is the belt gear connecting the motor bute 11 with the derrick T and L is the exhaust chimney placed on the belt gear. This belt gear Rg is designed so that the belt against rain, snow and the like. Like. Protected, but otherwise the air has free access in the direction of the arrow; the air in the belt passage Rg can go up through the chimney L
 EMI1.4
those of the back gear r and of the motor E penetrate the walls by means of stuffing boxes.

The described arrangement limits the gases flowing from the derrick T against the engine compartment 11 to an extremely small amount and this small amount of gas is sucked out by the pulling action of the vent L so that it cannot get into the engine compartment.

PATENT CLAIM: i. Protection arrangement against the risk of explosion for belt, rope or similar drives between work machines in operationally gas-containing or otherwise explosive
