 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

    Multi-deck load cell for aircraft.

   The subject of the invention is a polygonal support cell for aircraft, which is set up so that the aircraft can fly at its highest speed with a smaller wing and at its lowest speed with a larger wing. According to the invention, between the main decks intended for high speeds, several additional decks spaced one above the other are provided, each consisting of a usually non-load-bearing front part and an angle-controllable rear part hinged to this, so that they can be adjusted to be load-bearing at the desired low airspeed.

   In the drawing, an example embodiment of the invention is illustrated, u. between is
 EMI1.1
 and with adjustable auxiliary surfaces 4 between the two main wings and on both sides of the aircraft body. This figure shows the relative position of the main and auxiliary surfaces when the aircraft is flying at high speed, the total load of the aircraft then being carried mainly by the front parts of the upper and lower main wings 2 and 3.

   Fig. 2 is a vertical section illustrating the relative location of the major and auxiliary surfaces when the aircraft is flying at low speed; i. so if the total load of the aircraft is borne jointly by the main and auxiliary surfaces and by their entire surface.

   Fig. 3 is a cross section in which the handwheel, the shaft and the worm gear for setting the auxiliary surfaces are drawn in dashed lines. FIG. 4 is a horizontal section according to FIG. 3 and shows the adjustment device for the auxiliary surfaces in the interior of the aircraft fuselage.

   When the aircraft is flying horizontally at its high speed, the rear parts of the upper and lower main surfaces as well as the front and rear parts of the auxiliary surfaces are positioned in such a way that they have only the slightest lifting effect, so that the main part of the total load on the front parts 2 and 3 of the upper and lower major surfaces are transferred.

   When the aircraft is flying at its low speed, the total load is borne collectively by the larger area formed by the main and auxiliary surfaces.

   5 is the fuselage to which the fixed front parts of the main and auxiliary surfaces are attached; the rear parts 6 of the upper and lower main surfaces are preferably operated with the usual control devices. The rear parts of the auxiliary surfaces can be operated by shafts 8, worms 9 and 10, saw shaft 11 and handwheel 12.

   The shafts 8 and 8a extend over the entire length of the surfaces and are secured by their immovable front parts by means of hinge straps 1.3 and Ma. held, which are arranged on each wing and whose pivotable part 13a is fastened by means of a bolt 16 on the shaft 8, so that by a movement of the shaft 8, the rear part 7 of the auxiliary surface changes its position in relation to its front part.

   By turning the handwheel 12, the pilot causes a simultaneous movement of the rear parts 7 of the auxiliary surfaces and when the handwheel is released, the front parts 4 and the rear parts 7 are mutually automatically locked immediately, since self-locking worm gears are used.

   With the support cell according to the invention, on the one hand, greater safety is achieved at high flight speeds because the use of a small angle of inclination can be avoided and

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 on the other hand, the force required for higher speeds is reduced in comparison with that which is necessary with ordinary wings, the total area of which is in operation for both low and high airspeeds.
