Um eine (Echtzeit-)Prüfstandsumgebung einfach simulieren zu können, wird vorgeschlagen, die Prüfstandsumgebungshardware (13) als virtueller PC (7) auf einem Simulations-PC (6) zu implementieren, die Systemzeit (9) des virtuellen PCs (7) um einen Faktor, der einem Vielfachen der Zeitbasis (8) des Simulations-PCs (6) entspricht, zu dehnen und die reale Prüfstandsoftware (5) auf dem virtuellen PC (7) unter der verlangsamten Systemzeit (9) zu betreiben.
