Abstract

1. A weft thread insertion mechanism for gripper shuttle looms, comprising clamp means retaining the weft thread and to be gripped before the arrival of the shuttle within the shuttle path, and cutting means cutting off the weft thread after the finish of the weft insertion, characterized in that on the weft thread supplying side of the shuttle path at least two randomly controllable thread positioners (16) with thread clips (18) are positioned, each of them is supplied with one weft thread (17) from different weft thread coils and that each thread positioner (16) is movable between a withdrawal position in which the weft thread end retained by the positioner does not extend into the shuttle path (11) and an advanced position in which the retained weft thread end crosses the shuttle path (11) and extends into the clamp means (12).
