Abstract
De uitvinding betreft een bindmiddelsamenstelling voor poederverven, waarbij de samenstelling een met epoxygroepen reactief bevattende crosslinker bevat, met het kenmerk, dat de crosslinker epoxyfunctionele cyclo-alifatische groepen bevat en een viscositeit heeft lager dan 100p Pas (bij 25 graden C). De crosslinker heeft bij voorkeur een functionaliteit groter dan 1,2 en kleiner dan 6. De bindmiddelsamenstelling bevat voorts bij voorkeur een geschikte katalysator.

<Desc/Clms Page number 1> BINDMIDDELSAMENSTELLING VOOR DE BEREIDING VAN POEDERVERVEN De uitvinding betreft een bindmiddelsamenstelling voor poederverven, waarbij de samenstelling een met epoxygroepen reactief polymeer en een epoxygroepen bevattende crosslinker bevat. Zoals uit het artikel"Powder Paints"door Dr. Yves Merck in"Paintindia" (februari 1992, blz. 47-52) blijkt, wordt nog steeds gezocht naar crosslinkers en polymeren voor bindmiddelsamenstellingen voor poederverven die resulteren in een poederverf met goede vloei, goede opslagstabiliteit, goede reactiviteit, waarbij de componenten niet toxisch of mutageen zijn. Bekende systemen zijn bijvoorbeeld zure polyesters als polymeer en triglycidylisocyanuraat of bisfenol-A-epoxide als crosslinker. Zoals uit genoemd artikel blijkt voldoen deze systemen nog niet volledig aan de hoge eisen. De uitvinding stelt zieh ten doel een niet toxische crosslinker en bindmiddelsamenstelling te verschaffen die resulteert in een coating die een goed uiterlijk, een goede buitenduurzaamheid en een goede chemicaliënresistentie bezit en waarbij de poederverf een goede opslagstabiliteit en goede reactiviteit heeft. De uitvinding wordt gekenmerkt doordat de crosslinker epoxyfunctionele cyclo-alifatische groepen bevat, en een viscositeit heeft lager dan 1000 Pas (bij 25 C). Door toepassing van de samenstelling volgens de uitvinding worden poederverven verkregen met een onverwacht goede combinatie van eigenschappen. De poederverven vertonen een goede vloei, een goede reactiviteit en een goede opslagstabiliteit. De poederverven resulteren in poedercoatings met een goede oplosmiddelresistentie, goede kleureigenschappen, een goede buitenbestendigheid, een <Desc/Clms Page number 2> goede"overbake-resistance", een goede glans, een goede chemicaliënresistentie en een goede slagvastheid. Het systeem kan als een een-componentsysteem worden geleverd, dat wil zeggen dat het polymeer en de epoxyfunctionele cyclo-alifatische groepen bevattende crosslinker als mengsel wordt geleverd. Bij voorkeur is het mengsel homogeen, en bevat het tevens een geschikte katalysator. Als een met epoxygroepen reactief polymeer kan een polymeer worden toegepast met aminogroepen, anhydridegroepen, epoxygroepen, carboxylgroepen en/of hydroxygroepen. Het polymeer kan polyester, polyacrylaat, polyurethaan, polycarbonaat, fenol-aldehyde novolak, trifluoretheen-of pentafluorpropeencopolymeer, polybutadieen, polystyreen of een SMA-copolymeer zijn. Bij voorkeur wordt een carboxylgroepen bevattend polymeer toegepast. Zo'n polymeer heeft in de regel een zuurgetal kleiner dan 150 mg KOH/gram hars. Bij voorkeur is het zuurgetal kleiner dan 70, in het bijzonder kleiner dan 50. In de regel is het zuurgetal groter dan 5, bij voorkeur groter dan 10. Indien het toegepaste polymeer andere reactieve groepen draagt dan carboxylgroepen is de functionaliteit in de regel evenredig aan de hier voor het zuurgetal van een polymeer gegeven. De gewichtsverhouding polymeer : crosslinker ligt meestal tussen 50 : 50, en 98 : 2, bij voorkeur tussen 70 : 30, en 95 : 5. De equivalentverhouding carboxylgroepen : epoxygroepen ligt meestal tussen 1, 6 : 1 en 0, 5 : 1, bij voorkeur tussen 1 : 1 en 0, 8 : 1. Per 100 gram bindmiddelsamenstelling bevat de samenstelling in de regel tussen 1 en 50 gew. % epoxyfunctionele cyclo-alifatische groepen waarbij in de regel de cyclo-alifatische groep 5-12 koolstofatomen heeft. Bij voorkeur bevat de samenstelling minder dan 30 gew. % epoxyfunctionele cyclo-alifatische groepen. Het belang van de hars-crosslinker verhouding en van de hoeveelheid katalysator wordt nader toegelicht in Powder Coatings ; Chemistry and Technology (John Wiley and Sons, 1991 ; blz. 174-204). Als polymeer wordt bij voorkeur een carboxyl groepen bevattend polyester, polyurethaan of polyacrylaat toegepast. In het bijzonder zijn polyesters of polyacrylaten zeer geschikt. Geschikte polyacrylaten kunnen gebaseerd zijn op EMI3.1 (meth) butyl 2-ethylhexyl- (meth) acrylaat, decyl benzyl en hydroxyalkyl zoals hydroxyethyl-en en/of glycidylesters of glycidylethers van alkyl (meth) acrylaten. De polyacrylaten kunnen worden verkregen via bekende werkwijzen. Hierbij kunnen ook comonomeren zoals bijvoorbeeld styreen, maleinezuuranhydride, etheen, propeen en acrylonitril als monomeren worden toegepast. Eveneens kunnen andere vinyl- of alkylmonomeren worden toegepast zoals bijvoorbeeld octeen, triallylisocyanuraat en diallylftalaat. Het polyacrylaat heeft bij voorkeur de karakteristieken zoals hierboven voor het polymeer in zijn algemeenheid beschreven. Een epoxygroepen dragend acrylaat wordt verkregen door toepassing van glycidylacrylaten. Een zuurgroepen dragend acrylaat door meepolymeriseren van de gewenste hoeveelheid (meth) acrylzuur, maleinezuur of fumaarzuur. De Tg van het polyacrylaat ligt in de regel tussen 30 C en 120 C. Een hoge Tg heeft het voordeel dat relatief veel crosslinker toegepast kan worden in de bindmiddelsamenstelling. Bij voorkeur is de Tg hoger dan 50 C in verband met een optimale opslagstabiliteit. Bij <Desc/Clms Page number 4> voorkeur is de Tg kleiner dan 100 C, in verband met verwerkbaarheid van het polymeer. De viscositeit van het polyacrylaat ligt in de regel tussen 100 en 8000 dpas (gemeten bij 165 C ; Emila). Geschikte met een zuurgroep getermineerde polyurethanen kunnen bijvoorbeeld worden verkregen door reactie van een isocyanaat getermineerd polyurethaan met een hydroxycarbonzuur zoals bijvoorbeeld hydroxyazijnzuur, melkzuur, appelzuur of hydroxypivalinezuur of door reactie van een hydroxyl getermineerd polyurethaan met een dicarbonzuur of een anhydride. Epoxygroepen bevattende urethanen kunnen op analoge wijze worden verkregen door reactie van een isocyanaat groepen dragende polyurethaan met glycidol. Aminegroepen dragende urethanen kunnen op analoge wijze worden verkregen door reactie met overmaat diamine. De polyurethanen hebben bij voorkeur de fysische eigenschappen zoals verder voor polyesters beschreven. Geschikte hydroxygroep dragende polymeren zijn bijvoorbeeld fenol-formaldehyde novolak, met bisfenol-A getermineerde polyepoxiden, hydroxy-ethylacrylaat bevattende polyacrylaten en een hydroxygroepen bevattende polyester. Als katalysator voor de reactie van epoxygroepen met alifatische hydroxygroepen zijn in het bijzonder sterke Lewiszuren geschikt. Geschikte polyesters kunnen via gebruikelijke bereidingsmethoden worden verkregen uit in hoofdzaak aromatische polycarbonzuren, zoals bijvoorbeeld ftaalzuur, isoftaalzuur, tereftaalzuur, pyromellietzuur, trimellietzuur, 3, 6-dichloorftaalzuur, tetrachloorftaalzuur, respectievelijk, voor zover verkrijgbaar, de anhydriden, zuurchloriden of lagere alkylesters daarvan. Veelal bestaat de carbonzuurcomponent tenminste uit 50 gew. %, bij voorkeur tenminste 70 mol. %, isoftaalzuur en/of tereftaalzuur ; dit is echter niet noodzakelijk. Als polycarbonzuren kunnen tevens cycloalifatische en/of acyclische polycarbonzuren, zoals bijvoorbeeld tetrahydroftaalzuur, hexahydroëndo- <Desc/Clms Page number 5> methyleentereftaalzuur, hexachlorotetrahydroftaalzuur, hexahydrotereftaalzuur, azelainezuur, sebacinezuur, decaandicarbonzuur, adipinezuur, barnsteenzuur, maleinezuur, in hoeveelheden tot in de regel niet meer dan 30 mol. % van het totaal aan carbonzuren, worden toegepast. Ook hydroxycarbonzuren en/of eventueel lactonen kunnen worden toegepast, zoals bijvoorbeeld 12-hydroxystearinezuur, hydroxypivalinezuur en epsilon-caprolacton. In ondergeschikte hoeveelheden kunnen ook monocarbonzuren, zoals bijvoorbeeld benzoëzuur, tert.-butylbenzoezuur, hexahydrobenzoëzuur en verzadigde alifatische monocarbonzuren bij de bereiding worden toegevoegd. Verder kunnen vooral alifatische diolen, zoals EMI5.1 bijvoorbeeld ethyleenglycol, propaan-1, propaan- 1, diol, 2, (= neopentylglycol), hexaan-2, cyclohexyl)]-propaan, diethyleenglycol, dipropyleenglycol en 2, 2-diol,hydroxylethoxy)]-fenylpropaan, de hydroxypivalinezure ester van neopentylglycol en kleinere hoeveelheden polyolen, zoals glycerol, hexaantriol, pentaerytritol, sorbitol, trimethylolethaan, trimethylolpropaan en tris- (2-hydroxyethyl)-isocyanuraat worden gebruikt. Bij voorkeur bevat de alcoholcomponent ten minste 50 mol. % neopentylglycol. Tevens kunnen aminegroepen dragende verbindingen meegepolymeriseerd worden zoals bijvoorbeeld hexan-1,6- diamine, butaan-l, 4-diamine en E-caprolactam. Geschikte verbindingen om met polycarbonzuren te reageren tot de gewenste polyesters zijn ook monoepoxides zoals bijvoorbeeld ethyleenoxide, propyleenoxide, monocarbonzuurglycidylester (bijvoorbeeld Cardura ElO" ; Shell) of phenylglycidylether. De polyesters worden, via op zichzelf bekende methoden, door veresteren of omesteren, eventueel in aanwezigheid van gebruikelijke katalysatoren zoals <Desc/Clms Page number 6> bijvoorbeeld dibutyltinoxide of tetrabutyltitanaat bereid, waarbij door een geschikte keuze van de bereidingscondities en van de COOH/OH-verhouding eindprodukten worden verkregen waarvan het zuurgetal binnen gewenste waarden ligt. De polyester kan een kristallijne polyester zijn, hoewel in de regel een amorfe polyester de voorkeur verdient. Mengsels van kristallijne en amorfe polyesters zijn ook zeer geschikt. Het zuurgetal van de polyester wordt afhankelijk van de gewenste hoeveelheid reactieve epoxygroepen in de epoxygroepen bevattende crosslinker gekozen. De viscositeit van de polyester ligt, in het geval de polyester amorf is, meestal tussen 100 en 8000 dPas (gemeten bij 165 C via Emila). Indien de polyester kristallijn is, is de viscositeit lager. De Tg van de polyester wordt zodanig gekozen dat het mengsel polyester-crosslinker een voldoende hoge Tg (bij voorkeur > 30 C) heeft om bij kamertemperatuur een fysisch stabiel poeder te maken. Eventueel kunnen polyester-crosslinker combinaties met lagere Tg worden aangewend indien de poeders gekoeld worden verhandeld om de poederstabiliteit te handhaven. In het licht van bovenstaande kan de Tg van het polymeer aangepast worden aan de gewenste Tg van het uiteindelijke systeem. De Tg van het totale bindmiddelsysteem wordt beïnvloed door de Tg van de crosslinker, de Tg van het polymeer en door de hoeveelheid crosslinker die gemengd wordt met het polymeer. De hoeveelheid crosslinker is afhankelijk van het zuurgetal van het polymeer. Dit betekent in de regel dat naarmate het zuurgetal van het polymeer hoger is, de Tg van het polymeer hoger moet zijn. Er wordt derhalve in de regel gestreefd naar een zo laag mogelijk zuurgetal. De Tg van de polyester is bij voorkeur hoger dan EMI6.1 45 C, in het bijzonder hoger dan 60 C. In de regel is de Tg lager dan 90 C, meer in het bijzonder lager dan 80 C. <Desc/Clms Page number 7> De crosslinker volgens de uitvinding bevat epoxyfunctionele cyclo-alifatische groepen, en heeft een viscositeit lager dan 1000 Pas (bij 25 C). In de regel zijn de epoxyfunctionele cycloalifatische groepen verkregen door epoxidatie van onverzadigde cyclo-alifatische verbindingen. Als onverzadigde cyclo-alifatische verbindingen zijn ethylenisch onverzadigde verbindingen met carboxyl- of hydroxylfunctionaliteit zeer geschikt. De ethylenisch onverzadigde cyclo-alifatische verbindingen zijn bijvoorbeeld cyclopenteen-3-ol, cyclopenteen-4-ol, cyclohexeen-4-ol, tetrahydroftaalzuuranhydride, 4-methylolcyclohexeen, 4-carboxycyclohexeen, cyclooctadieen, cyclooctatrieen en dergelijke. Voorts, zijn onverzadigde, gefunctionaliseerde cyclische terpenen zeer geschikt. De crosslinker bevat in de regel meerdere epoxyfunctionele cyclo-alifatische groepen, hoewel dat niet noodzakelijk is. Bijvoorbeeld meervoudig onverzadigde cyclische alifatische verbindingen die tevens meervoudig geëpoxideerd zijn, kunnen als zodanig, of als alkylester toegepast worden, waarbij alkyl bijvoorbeeld methyl, ethyl, propyl, cyclohexyl of 2-ethylhexyl is. Voorbeelden EMI7.1 hiervan zijn 1, en 1, en derivaten hiervan. In deze uitvoeringsvorm is de gemiddelde functionaliteit van de crosslinker in de regel hoger dan 1, 2, bij voorkeur hoger dan 1, 7. De gemiddelde functionaliteit is in de regel kleiner dan 6, bij voorkeur kleiner dan 4. Geschikte crosslinkers hebben bij voorkeur een viscositeit kleiner dan 200 Pas. In de regel zal de viscositeit groter zijn dan 0, 2 Pas. De viscositeit is gedefinieerd als gemeten met een"ICI come and plate" viscosimeter ; (zie Powder Coatings ; Chemistry and Technology, blz. 287-288). <Desc/Clms Page number 8> Het is onverwacht, dat met vloeibare epoxyfunctionele crosslinkers poederverven met goede opslagstabiliteit verkregen kunnen worden, waarbij de uitgeharde coatings tevens zeer goede eigenschappen bezitten. In de regel bevat de crosslinker meerdere cycloalifatische groepen met epoxyfunctionaliteit. De cycloalifatische groepen kunnen geaneleerd zijn, maar zullen in de regel via ester, ether of amide banden covalent aan elkaar gebonden zijn, al dan niet via een (cyclo)alifatische of aromatische groep. Voorbeelden van geschikte crosslinkers zijn 3, 4-epoxycyclohexyl-methyl-3, 4-epoxycyclohexylcarboxylaat (ERL-4221TM ; Union Carbide), EMI8.1 bis Union Carbide), 1, bis Andere geschikte crosslinkers staan beschreven in EP-A-481476. Crosslinkers kunnen bijvoorbeeld gesynthetiseerd worden door methylacrylaat of methylmethacrylaat met butadieen in een diels-alderreactie 4- (methylcarboxy)cyclohexeen of 4-methyl (4-methylcarboxy) cyclohexeen te laten vormen. Op analoge wijze is een reactie van (meth) acrylzure esters met cyclopentadieen of furan mogelijk, of butadieen met maleinezuuranhydride. Deze ester-functionele onverzadigde verbinding kan met een polyalcohol of polyamine zoals bijvoorbeeld EMI8.2 trimethylolpropaan, pentaeritritol, 1, 4-aminoethyl-l, worden tot een oligoester of oligoamide. De ethylenisch onverzadigde cyclo-alifatische verbinding kan met bijvoorbeeld perazijnzuur geëpoxideerd worden. Desgewenst kunnen de crosslinkers met amine, carboxy of hydroxyfunctionele componenten in epoxyfunctionele oligomeren worden omgezet. Mengsels van genoemde crosslinkers kunnen worden <Desc/Clms Page number 9> toegepast in iedere gewenste verhouding afhankelijk van de gewenste toepassing. De bereiding van de poederverf is in het algemeen beschreven in bijvoorbeeld Powder Coatings, Chemistry and Technology" (blz. 148). De crosslinker kan via een extruder of een kneder met het polymeer gemengd worden. In de regel wordt er dan tevens een katalysator toegevoegd. De crosslinker kan ook worden ingemengd in pigment of vulstof en vervolgens aan het hars worden toegevoegd en bijvoorbeeld in een extruder worden gemengd. Genoemde crosslinkers kunnen afhankelijk van de toepassing ook worden toegepast in combinatie met andere crosslinkers. Zeer geschikt zijn bijvoorbeeld epoxygroepen bevattende crosslinkers zoals bijvoorbeeld trisglycidylisocyanuraat (TGIC), polybisfenol-A-epoxiden. Andere geschikte crosslinkers die in combinatie toegepast kunnen worden zijn isocyanaatgroepen bevattende verbindingen zoals isoforondiisocynaattrimeer. Tevens zijn ss-hydroxyl- amide groepen bevattende crosslinkers geschikt zoals bijvoorbeeld Primid XL 552TM (Rohm and Haas). Tevens kunnen polyfunctionele oxazolines worden toegepast. De hoeveelheid epoxyfunctionele cycloalifatische groepen bevattende crosslinker ten opzichte van andere crosslinkers is bij voorkeur dusdanig, dat meer dan 20% van de netwerkopbouw (cross-linking) wordt verkregen door de epoxyfunctionele cycloalifatische groepen bevattende crosslinker. Met grotere voorkeur is deze hoeveelheid meer dan 35%, in het bijzonder meer dan 50%. De uithardingsreactie tussen het polymeer en crosslinker vindt in de regel plaats in aanwezigheid van een katalysator. Het is met de bindmiddelsamenstelling volgens de uitvinding eenvoudig mogelijk door toepassing van een voldoende [door de vakman te bepalen hoeveelheid katalysator de gewenste verhouding van uithardingstijd en uithardingstemperatuur te kiezen. Met de samenstelling volgens de uitvinding is het <Desc/Clms Page number 10> mogelijk een uithardingscyclus te verkrijgen van 150 C bij 10 min. Indien gewenst is een uitharding van 20 min. bij 200 C ook mogelijk. In de regel zal de hoeveelheid EMI10.1 katalysator zo gekozen worden, dat een uitharding in 20 ä 30 min. bij 150 C of 10 ä 15 min. bij 1800C tot 5 ä 10 min. bij 200 C wordt verkregen. Als katalysator komen de bij de vakman bekende katalysatoren in aanmerking voor epoxy-zuur, epoxyanhydride-, epoxy-amine, epoxy-hydroxy en epoxy-epoxy reacties. In de regel bevatten deze katalysatoren tertiaire aminegroepen of andere basische nucleofiele groepen. Zo kunnen voor de bij voorkeur toegepaste epoxy-zuur reactie, in principe alle katalysatoren hiervoor worden toegepast welke op blz. 182-198 van het artikel "Kinetics and Mechanisms of Polyesterifications" door Madee en Maréchal in "Advances in Polymer Science" (Springer Verlag ; 1985) zijn genoemd. Geschikte katalysatoren zijn bijvoorbeeld N-dialkylaminepyridines zoals N-dimethylaminopyridine, benzotriazool, tertiare amines zoals bijvoorbeeld triethylamine, trifenylamine, tetramethylguanidine (TMG). Andere geschikte katalysatoren zijn tetraalkylfosfoniumbromide en lithiumhydroxide. De katalysatoren kunnen indien gewenst geblokkeerd zijn. Bij voorkeur is de katalysator een al dan niet geblokkeerde base met een of meer, aan een basisch atoom gebonden aktieve waterstofatomen. De katalysator kan gebaseerd zijn op een ongeblokkeerde base volgens formule (I) of (II) : EMI10.2 waarbij Ri = H of (Ci-Cio) alkyl, R2 = H of (Ci-Cio) alkyl, R3 = H of (Ci-Cio) alkyl en <Desc/Clms Page number 11> R4 = H of (Ci-Cio) alkyl en waarbij EMI11.1 Rl en R3, Rl en R, R3 en R4 en R en R4 ring met (2-10) koolstofatomen kunnen vormen (CH,),-N- ), I I t eenZ----C = N (II) waarbij Z =-NH of-CH y = 2,3 of 4 en x = 2,3 of 4. Als blokkeringsmiddel voor deze ongeblokte katalysatoren kan bijvoorbeeld een isocyanaatgroepen bevattende verbinding, een acylerende verbinding of een (bicarbonaat worden toegepast. Geschikte isocyanaatbevattende verbindingen zijn bijvoorbeeld monoisocyanaten met (1-20) koolstofatomen, diisocyanaten zoals bijvoorbeeld hexamethyleendiisocyanaat of het trimeer, isoforondiisocyanaat of het trimeer, dicyclohexaanmethaandiisocyanaat en tetramethylxyleendiisocyanaat (TMXDI). Geschikte acylerende verbindingen zijn bijvoorbeeld anhydrides zoals propionzuuranhydride en azijnzuuranhydride, zuurchlorides en geactiveerde esters. Bij voorkeur wordt als katalysator tetramethylguanidine toegepast. Volgens een andere voorkeursuitvoeringsvorm wordt als katalysator een met hexamethyleendiisocyanaat geblokkeerd tetramethylguanidine, een met isoforondiisocyanaat geblokkeerd tetramethylguanidine of een met tetramethylxyleendiisocyanaat geblokkeerd tetramethylguanidine toegepast. De katalysator kan toegevoegd worden aan het polymeer of aan de crosslinker. Vervolgens kunnen de verschillende componenten met elkaar gemengd worden via een extruder of kneder bij temperaturen tussen <Desc/Clms Page number 12> EMI12.1 bijvoorbeeld 70 C en 150 C. Het mengen vindt in de regel plaats bij temperaturen boven het smeltpunt of in cq. boven het smelttraject van het bindmiddel. Afhankelijk van de toegepaste temperatuur en van de toegepaste katalysator kan het noodzakelijk zijn om de menging van de componenten en de afkoeling van het mengsel snel te laten geschieden. De gemiddelde verblijftijd is bij voorkeur minder dan de helft van geltijd van het systeem bij de mengtemperatuur. De katalysator kan ook worden toegevoegd via extrusie tijdens het maken van de poederverf tesamen met de pigmenten en de vulstoffen. Tevens kan de katalysator verwerkt worden in een masterbatch van het polymeer. De hoeveelheid katalysator ligt meestal tussen 0, 05 en 2 gew. %, bij voorkeur tussen 0, 1 en 1, 5 gew. % (ten opzichte van bindmiddelsamenstelling). De bereiding van de poederverven kan op gebruikelijke wijze (Powder Coatings ; Chemistry and Technology blz. 225-226) plaatsvinden. Uiteraard kunnen indien gewenst aan de poedercoatingsystemen volgens de uitvinding alle gebruikelijke additieven zoals bijvoorbeeld pigmenten, vulstoffen, vloeimiddelen, stabilisatoren en katalysatoren worden toegevoegd. Geschikte pigmenten zijn bijvoorbeeld anorganische pigmenten zoals titaandioxide, zinksulfide, ijzeroxide en chroomoxide en organische pigmenten zoals azoverbindingen. Geschikte vulstoffen zijn bijvoorbeeld metaaloxiden, silicaten, carbonaten en sulfaten. Samenstellingen volgens de uitvinding kunnen toegepast worden als coatingsmiddelen voor metaal-, houten kunststofsubstraten. Voorbeelden zijn industriële deklagen voor algemene doeleinden, coatings op machinerie en bijvoorbeeld voor blikken, huishoudelijke en andere kleine apparatuur, automobielen en dergelijke. De uitvinding wordt toegelicht aan de hand van het volgende, niet beperkende voorbeeld. <Desc/Clms Page number 13> Voorbeeld Bereidinq polyesterhars Een 3 liter reactorvat, uitgerust met een thermometer, een roerder en een destillatieinrichting werd gevuld met 1, 13 gew. delen trimethylolpropaan, 15, 44 gew. delen tereftaalzuur, 2, 26 gew. delen adipinezuur, 18, 76 gew. delen neopentylglycol, 0, 02 gew. % dibutyltinoxide en 0, 02 gew. % tris-nonylfenylfosfiet. Daarna werd onder roeren, terwijl er een lichte stikstofstroom over het reactiemengsel werd geleid, de temperatuur opgevoerd tot 170 C, waarbij zieh water vormde. De temperatuur werd geleidelijk verder opgevoerd tot een maximum van 245 C en het water werd afgedestilleerd. De reactie werd voortgezet totdat het zuurgetal van de polyester minder dan 12 mg KOH/g bedroeg. Vervolgens werden 3, 39 gew. delen isoftaalzuur voor een tweede stap toegevoegd en verder veresterd tot een zuurgetal 35. Het laatste gedeelte van het proces werd onder verminderde druk uitgevoerd. De verkregen hars had de volgende karakteristieken : - zuurgetal : 34, 7 ; - functionaliteit : 3, 23 ; - viscositeit : 1800 dpas (Emila 165 C) ; - Tg : 56 C. Als functionaliteit wordt de theoretische functionaliteit gegeven, gebaseerd op de hoeveelheid trifunctioneel monomeer en het theoretische molecuulgewicht. Voorbeeld I Bereidinq poederverf 532 gew. delen van de bovenbeschreven polyesterhars werden bij 110 C aan een kneder (Werner & Pfleiderer ZSK30) gedoseerd. Nadat de hars volledig gesmolten was werden 100 <Desc/Clms Page number 14> gew. delen titaandioxide (KRONOS 2160TM) in de hars gedispergeerd. Vervolgens werden 9 gew. delen vloeimiddel (Resiflow PV 5TM ; Worlée) 4, 5 gew. delen benzoine, en 3 gew. delen stabilisator (Irganox 1010 ; Ciba Geigy) toegevoegd en ingemengd. Daarna werden 66 gew. delen ERL 4299R van Union Carbide (bis[3,4-epoxycyclohexyl]adipaat) toegevoegd, en vervolgens 3 gew. delen tetramethylguanidine (TMG ; Jansen Chimica). Het verkregen produkt werd na afkoeling verkleind, verpulverd en gezeefd tot een deeltjesgrootte van maximaal 90 pm.
