 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 "Security device against theft of spare wheels and pneumatic tires fitted to these wheels *
 EMI1.2
 The present invention relates to a life-saving device against the theft of spare wheels and pneumatic tires mounted on these wheels in motor vehicles.

   The different devices? built up to now only aimed at the possible theft of the complete spare wheel with its means, its rim, its pneumatic tire These devices consisted of either a system or a system

 rusty, as described in the same applicant's patent application aa non filed April 7, 1926 under 1264,128 These devices were effective when.

   the spare wheel was mounted in the body shell # because this civet cooperated with the locking device to prevent removal of the tire tire * But bodybuilders tend to remove the bowl in? bodies, it would be easy, with the known locking mechanisms, to simply remove the pneumatic tire and the air valve, the price of which is currently about three to four times that

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 do the wheel leaving the wheel itself attached @ to the body. It is therefore a question of producing a safety device locking both the wheel and the pneumatic tire.

   The safety device against the theft of the spare wheels in accordance with the invention, and of the pneumatic tires mounted on these wheels / is remarkable nota @ - in that it achieves locking with the aid of chin / two spacer jaws variable which can wrap the tire at any place on its periphery, the two jaws in position can be locked / When they and retain between their ends are applied against / a rigid part of the spare wheel. For example, it may be advantageous to choose the rim of this wheel as the rigid part of the wheel.

   In the accompanying drawing are shown, by way of examples, two embodiments of the invention.

   Fig 1 is an elevation, partially in section, of a first device.

   Fige is an end view of this same device.

     Fig S is a partially sectional elevation of a second device.

     Fig. 4 is an end view of this second device.

   Fig. 1 represents a solid disc wheel. The wheel is fixed to the plate 2 by the eyes 3. Two jaws 4 and 5, sliding on the shoe 6, being able to move away from or approach the rim 7. The; . The skate 6 is fixed to the step by riveted bolts @. A contrary pitch screw 9 journalling in its middle in the boss 10, extends or @ brings the two jaws 4 and 5 together.

   The screw is actuated by a crankshaft which fits into the head 11; this head, instead of being square, could be hexagonal and have the same dimension as the éorous @ 3 in order to be able to use the same crankshaft for the various tightening, After locking the wheel, that is to say when the jaws 4 and 5 are as close together as possible, the screw can be immobilized in the boss 10 by a lock 12 nano-operated by the key of a padlock 13, this lock being inserted into one of the notches 28 provided in screw 9, as seen in fig, 2,

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

In figures 3 and 4, the rear jaw, which does not necessarily need to be mobile,

   has been replaced by a tab 14 which can be attached to the step or to the side of the body (see dotted line). The tab 14 can be adjusted in height by sliding it in the boss 16. It is fixed in its final position by means of riveted pins 17.

   The front jaw 16 is articulated on an axis 23 carried by the boss 18, this boss forming part of the pad 19 itself fixed to the step by the riveted bolts 20. A spring 21 supports, via a plate, on a part 22 projecting on the axis
23. This pin 23 has an oarrée portion 24 for hearth made integral in rotation with the jaw 15. The jaw 15 is still applied by the spring 21 on the rim and the vibrations of this jaw are thus suppressed. In the pouring position, when the jaw 15 is applied to the rim, a latch 25, actuated by the lock 26, is housed in front of a stop 27 provided on the axis 23 and prevents any rearward movement of the jaw 15.

     To remove the wheel, it suffices, after having operated the lock, to pull on the jaw 15 which assumes the position indicated by the line in phantom.

   The above examples are not limiting. There are many ways to be proud of these forms of execution, and the devices for spreading or bringing the jaws together can affect very different farms. The jaws, instead of resting against the rim, could be applied against any other rigid part of the wheel Contreun rai for example / in a wooden wheel. This safety device is applicable to all types of wheels, and all the variants, based on the principles set forth, come within the scope of the invention.
