<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

"IMPROVEMENTS FOR BURNED GAS ENGINES"
The present invention relates to combustion products engines, of the kind in which each of the elements of a series of engine cylinders is connected to a single chamber, common to all the cylinders, in which fuel is continuously burned with air and which delivers motor fluid to said cylinders in the form of hot gases.
The present invention consists in incorporating into an engine of this type a recuperator thanks to which the air, before being delivered to the combustion chamber, is heated by the residual hot gases escaping from said cylinders. .
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
It is obviously not new to propose the incorporation of a recuperator with a burnt gas engine, but to the knowledge of the inventors, the incorporation of a recuperator in a engine of the above-mentioned type. This arrangement 1 provides a distinct and important advantage due to the possibility of maintaining, by providing several cylinders, an approximately continuous stream of hot gases through the regenerator as well as an approximately continuous stream of air. 'through this apparatus, a result which, to the knowledge of the inventors, had not been or could not have been obtained until now, except in the case of gas turbines which present drawbacks which to them. are clean.
EMI2.1
Fig. 1 of the accompanying drawing shows schematically a convenient embodiment of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a detail of a variant. a, a denote the engine cylinders arranged vertically. These cylinders are arranged in line and work on a common crankshaft, the axis of which is indicated by the dashed line C-C. b, shown in dotted lines is the combustion chamber, which is a horizontal cylinder arranged parallel to the axis of the crankshaft and located towards or above the upper ends of the engine cylinders.
The combustion chamber is surrounded by a casing p (which can be used as a boiler). t designates the pipe for supplying fuel to the combustion chamber, m, n are pipes connecting an air intake manifold n to the various working cylinders. d, d are pipes connecting the combustion chamber b to the engine cylinders. ē, ē are pipes going from engine cylinders to

a pipe! .. g, g are exhaust pipes going from the engine cylinders to an exhaust manifold h. 2 is the recuperator.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The air drawn into the engine cylinders through the pipes m, m is compressed in the cylinders and delivered through the pipes ē, ē into the pipe f which. takes it to the collector. It passes through the tubes 4 of the recuperator and is then delivered by the tube 5 into the combustion chamber b in which it meets the fuel which, in this embodiment of the invention, is of the liquid type and is injected by a pipe t., The fuel is burnt continuously. The products of combustion pass through the pipes d, d to the engine cylinders, in which they can relax and develop useful work on the pistons.
After the expansion, the gases escape through the pipes g¯, g and arrive in the exhaust manifold h through which they are led to the recuperator 2, then pass through the recuperator in which they give up heat to the air and are discharged at 6. Suitable distributors are provided to regulate the admission of air to the engine cylinders, the discharge of compressed air out of these cylinders, the admission of hot gases and the exhaust. residual gases.
The pipes e, e can be enclosed in the pipes g, g and the pipe! f can be enclosed in the exhaust manifold h. This is shown (fig. 2). Constructions of this kind increase the efficiency, since the loss of heat from the compressed air is prevented and the heat of the exhaust gases is usefully transferred to this air, thus reducing the work involved. must be carried out in the recuperator. In addition, it is advisable in all cases to provide the pipes e, e and the pipe f with a casing to reduce heat loss.
The continuous combustion engines according to the present invention can work either according to the four-stroke cycle or according to the two-stroke cycle, and can be either of the single-acting type; or of the double-acting type.
