"ASYNCHRONOUS MOTOR WITH UNIT POWER FACTOR STARTING BY
SIMPLE CLOSING OF A SWITCH "
The invention relates to improvements made to the asynchronous motor with a unit power factor starting by simply closing a switch; described in the patent
EMI1.1
Belgian - "St <> '32 ± * é6ô dated% '. November 1924.
These improvements are more particularly applicable to engines of a certain power for which it is advantageous to reduce the dimensions of the collector:
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
marrage and compensation always being obtained by the means described in the main patent.
1) For starting it is advantageous not to apply the rotor voltage directly to the collector when the impedance of the collector winding is not sufficient to imitate the current flowing through the brushes. In this case, the motor will be started after the brushes of the two offset windings of the secondary component have been disconnected; The normal connection will be reestablished as soon as the engine speed has reached a sufficient value. This maneuver can be carried out by hand or automatically using centrifugal force or any electromagnetic system. It is also possible to simply raise the brushes of the commutator and then lower them in a manner analogous to that which short-circuits the rings of a normal asynchronous rotor.
2) The double winding remaining constituted by two windings offset by the same number of turns housed either in the same notches or in different notches, it may be advantageous to give these two windings different sections and to modify their connections. under the following conditions:
The two windings are connected - in opposition during starting; when the motor is rotating at speed, the large section winding which constitutes the working winding is short-circuited while the smallest section winding which constitutes the excitation winding is joined to the collector.
These two maneuvers will be carried out simultaneously by controlling an inverter which can be housed in the location of the usual device for lifting the brushes.
As the compensation current is only a small fraction of the total current, the collector may be of reduced dimensions
The invention remains applicable to the case where the self-starting asynchronous motor and the exciter, instead of being combined into one.

single machine, constitute two independent bodies, it allows to reduce the dimensions of the exciter which will be established no longer for the total current but for the only excitation current.
