<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

logue.
On constitue cet appareil d'éclairage: par un bâti métallique a affectant la forme d'une sorte d'anneau d'une seule pièce., avantageusement venu de fonte, et tel qu'on puisse, en son centre, éta- blir le foyer lumineux et que les rayons émis par celui- ci puissent être renvoyés, en avant et en arrière dudit anneau, respectivement par deux surfaces concaves!:.. et c, en forme de réflecteurs circulaires, qu'on fait compren- dre aux deux faces dudit anneau ;
séparée du fond du cylindre ± par un res- sort j et munie d'une quaue k susceptible de coulisser dans un trou ménagé dans ledit fond et dans un conduit de laquelle queue peut être prise l'extrémité du fil d'a- menée du courant, et en ménageant, dans l'anneau a, dans le pro- longement de l'axe du tube h , un logement pour l'autre culot de la lampe;

et propres à permettre que les rayons lumineux issue du filament e¯ sortant desdite verrez suivant des faisceaux plus ou moins divergents, lesquels verres optiques peuvent être maintenus en place contre l'anneau a de manières différentes, par exemple par l'intermédiaire de deux ba- gues filetées n et o vissées dans ledit anneau et rete- nant lesdites lentilles de la façon représentée ;

"Improvements made to lighting devices, in particular to those to be used as position or main lights for locomotive vehicles".
The invention relates to lighting devices; and it concerns more specifically (because it is in their case that its application seems to offer the most interest), but not exclusively, among these devices, those to be used as position or main lights for locomotive vehicles .
Its main purpose is to make these devices such that they are simpler and, consequently, more economical than hitherto.
It mainly consists in making the devices of the kind in question understand, on the one hand, a frame having the shape of a kind of ring in one single piece and such that the luminous focus substantially occupies the center thereof. and;, on the other hand means such that the light rays from said focus are reflected in at least one direction,
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
It consists, apart from this main provision, of certain other provisions, which are preferably used at the same time and which will be discussed more explicitly below, in particular in an additional provision consisting, itself, of filling at least one of the faces of the ring with a transparent or translucent surface, in color or not,
and suitable for allowing the passage of light rays coming from the focus,
It relates more particularly to a certain mode of application (that in which it is applied to position or main beam lights for locomotive vehicles) and certain embodiments (those which will be indicated below) of the said provisions; and it also targets more particularly, and this as new industrial products, devices of the type in question comprising the application of these marl provisions, the special elements and tools specific to their establishment, as well as installations, fixed or mobile ( including locomotive vehicles), comprising similar devices.
And it can, in any case, be well understood with the aid of the additional description which follows, as well as the appended drawing, which supplement and drawing are, of course, given above all by way of indication. ,
Figs. 2 and 3 included in this drawing show, respectively in section according to 1-1 fig. 2, in elevation and in section according to 3-3 fig. 1, a lighting apparatus established in accordance with the invention.
According to the invention, and more especially according to that of its modes of application, as well as those of the embodiments of these various parts, to which it seems that preference should be given, proposing to make include in an automobile a lighting apparatus comprising an incandescent electric lamp and for it to serve either as a position light or as a high beam, this is done as follows, or in a similar manner

log.
This lighting apparatus is constituted: by a metal frame a affecting the shape of a sort of ring in one piece., Advantageously made of cast iron, and such that one can, in its center, establish the luminous focus and that the rays emitted by it can be returned, in front of and behind said ring, respectively by two concave surfaces!: .. and c, in the form of circular reflectors, which are made to understand to the two faces of said ring;
by said luminous focus, which is constituted by an incandescent electric lamp, for example of the type shown in the drawing, that is to say with a cylindrical bulb d and an axial rectilinear filament e in relation to short length, which lamp can be held in place in the ring a in different ways, for example as shown, that is to say by having recourse to a part ± suitable for sliding, in the manner of 'a piston, in a cylinder g, with bottom, in insulating material and suitably retained in a threaded tube h itself suitable to be screwed in an ad hoc thread that is kept in a tail i of a single piece a- with the ring, and the axis of which is in the extension of the axis of the lamp assumed to be in place, part 1 .. comprising, on ea external face, a housing for one of the bases of said lamp,
separated from the bottom of the cylinder ± by a spring j and provided with a quaue k capable of sliding in a hole made in said bottom and in a duct from which the end of the lead wire can be taken from the current, and by leaving, in the ring a, in the prolongation of the axis of the tube h, a housing for the other base of the lamp;
by two circular optical glasses 1 and m respectively established at the edges of reflectors b¯ and c
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
and suitable for allowing the light rays coming from the filament ē coming out of said see following more or less divergent beams, which optical glasses can be held in place against the ring a in different ways, for example by means of two bars - threaded gues n and o screwed into said ring and retaining said lenses as shown;
and by a means suitable for allowing that one can rest and hold in place on a support the whole thus constituted, for example on one of the wings of the automobile, which means may consist, in this case, of 'on the one hand, to make the ring understand has a foot such that it can rest on said wing, foot or else constituted by the tail i itself of said ring, as is the case shown, or else reported and formed by a hollow base fitted onto said tail and fixed thereto in any suitable manner, and, on the other hand, in providing the threaded tube h with a nut p, so that, after having threaded said tube into a suitable hole in the fender of the vehicle, it is possible, after having screwed the said nut on the said tube, to keep the device in place,
and in the position for which it illuminates in the desired directions.
As a result, we obtain a lighting apparatus which can affect the shape shown in the drawing, or a different shape, for example spherical, and which, among other applications, and according to the positions that it is made to occupy on a locomotive and colors to be given to the light rays emanating from it, can serve as a position or main light, which device includes a lamp which can be of a very small number of candles while ensuring suitable illumination, is easy and quick assembly and ± assembly, and can be obtained at a very low cost price,
As goes without saying, and as it emerges from elsewhere
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
Their already from the foregoing, the invention is in no way limited to that of its modes of application, nor to those of the embodiments of its various parts,
having been more especially indicated; it embraces, on the contrary, all the variants, in particular: that where the lamp would be of form, as well as of type, other than those indicated, for example a lamp with spherical bulb and a single base, in which case said lamp would be mounted, as usual, for example with bayonet, in the housing, ad hoc, of one or the other base of the lamp indicated above, the tubeh being able, in this case, to be arranged to serve as a socket for said base; that where one of the optical glasses would be replaced by an opaque surface, that in the case where one wants to use the apparatus to send the light rays of the filament. in one direction; that where at least one of the optical glasses would be replaced by another transparent surface, or translucent;
that where at least one of the transparent or translucent surfaces, through which the light rays of the filament pass, would be in color; that where the light rays of the filament would propagate outside without crossing a surface, transparent or translucent, interposed; that where the light rays of the filament would form two beams forming between them a certain angle;
that where the reflectors b and c, instead of forming part of the ring a, would form part of a block suitable for being threaded inside said ring and held in place by any suitable means, this arrangement allowing possibly to keep in place, thanks to said block, one of the optical glasses'
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
and that where the spring j, instead of supporting the lamp d by its lower part, would support it by its upper part, the lower base of said lamp being, in this case, fixed.
