   MEMOIRE DESCRIPTIF

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

   On a recours de préférence à l'air comprimé pour commander les différents mouvements de la poche de manière à imprimer à celle-ci, sans l'emploi d'organes ou de harnais démultiplicateurs, des mouvements très doux empêchant la formation de bulles d'air dans la matière lorsqu'elle est à l'état   pâteux ;

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

   La commande des mouvements de translation   du   pont et du chariot et de pivotement de la tourelle est effectuée électriquement à partir d'un poste ou d'une cabine établie sur un prolongement 6 de la tourelle et comportant les organes de commande nécessaires, con- trollers, etc.. qui sont manoeuvrés par un seul   homme   en outre le conducteur de la machine a également à sa dis- pcsition dans la babine les robinets commandant l'ad- mission et l'échappement d'air comprimé servant par l'in-   termédiaire   des organes qui seront décrits plus loin, à imprimer à la poche les divers mouvements requis;

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

Le canon 11 est   relie   au berceau 10 par deux flasques 17 clavetés sur un arbre secondaire 18 qu'on ap- apellera dans ce qui va suivre   "l'arbre   de versage";

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

 EMI5.1
 quatre encoches 25a j 25, 25çJ 25d (f.,6 10) à   sa périphérie ; cetteroue, dont le diamètre est double   de celui du pignon 15, engrène avec   celui-ci.

 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 7>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 8>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 9>

   Le fonctionnement de la machine est le suivant;

 <Desc/Clms Page number 10>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 11>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 12>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 13>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 14>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 15>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 16>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 17>

For: "Poaching and pouring machine".

   The present invention relates to a machine for picking up or poaching a substance in a container in order to subsequently transport it and pour it into any point of use; this so-called "poaching-pouring machine" is arranged so that it can be adapted to any existing installation, whatever the relative positions of the container and of the pouring point.

   This machine comprises a mobile platform on rails and on which is mounted and can move transversely, with respect to the rails, a trolley

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 carrying a pivoting or touralle platform on which are placed the organs controlling the poaching and pouring.

   The bag intended to collect the material in the container and to pour it at the point of use is secured to the end of an arm connected to a shaft which can be imparted a rotational movement and which is mounted in a piece called "cannon"; the latter can pivot around a so-called "pouring" shaft arranged parallel to the shaft of the barrel and journaling in a part called a cradle which can itself journal in a support mounted on the turret; the resulting inclination given to the arm carrying the pocket, combined with the dimensioning of this arm, makes it possible to carry out the pocketing.

   Compressed air is preferably used to control the various movements of the pouch so as to impart to the latter, without the use of reduction members or harnesses, very gentle movements preventing the formation of bubbles. air in the material when it is in the pasty state;
The accompanying drawing represents, schematically and by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention applied to a machine for poaching glass in a basin oven and for pouring it onto the apron of a lamination spine,
Fig.l is a side elevation of the machine.

   Fig. 2 is a partial plan.

   Fig. 3 is a partial side elevation of the machine seen from the side opposite to that of fig, l,

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

Fig. 4 is a corresponding partial plane.

   Fig.5 is a vertical section on line 5-5 of Fig.3.

   Figs. 6 to 10 are diagrams used to explain the various movements of the pocket.

   The machine comprises a platform 1 which can roll on rails 2, opposite the oven, the front wall of which is indicated at 3; on the platform 1 or bridge can roll, transversely to the rails 2, a carriage 4 on which is mounted and little; turn around a pivot, the turret 5.

   The control of the translational movements of the bridge and the carriage and of the pivoting of the turret is effected electrically from a station or a cabin established on an extension 6 of the turret and comprising the necessary control members, controllers , etc .. which are operated by a single man in addition the machine operator also has at his disposal in the chuck the valves controlling the intake and exhaust of compressed air serving by the in- intermediary of the organs which will be described later, to imprint on the pocket the various movements required;

   similarly, the machine operator controls the opening and closing movements of the basin oven from his cabin to give passage to the pocket,
On the turret, on the side opposite to that where the cabin is located, is fixed by means of bolts a support frame 7 which is furthermore provided at its base with four jack screws 8 with square threads so as to be able to adjust the machine, according to the respective heights

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 the mass of molten glass in the furnace and the upper edge of the pouring apron of the laminator,

This support frame 7 is provided with two bearings receiving the journals 9 of a part 10 called a "cradle", the special shape of which has been chosen to first meet the best conditions of mechanical resistance and then to allow its oscillation and that of the organs that it carries around seo two trunnions 9.

   The cradle supports a so-called "barrel" part 11 provided with soft bearings the axis line of which can be offset from said part 11 in the event that, for a fortuitous cause, the height of the axis of the machine should be adjusted. within a limited limit; in these bearings is mounted a shaft 12 receiving, at its end opposite the control cabin, an arrow 13 which is secured thereto by conical fitting and by keying and which carries the pocket 14 of elliptical section.

   At its end opposite to that connected to the arrow 13, the shaft 12 carries a special pinion 15, the number of teeth of which is defined by the amplitude of the movement to be carried out and which carries at its periphery two notches 15a and 15b; these notches are intended to cooperate with a pawl 16 shown schematically in Figs, 6 to 10 and carried by the barrel; the shift (180) of these notches conditions the extreme positions occupied by the pocket in its rotation around its axis,
The barrel 11 is connected to the cradle 10 by two flanges 17 keyed to a secondary shaft 18 which will be called in what follows "the pouring shaft";

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

 this shaft which is parallel to the shaft 12 and hence to the barrel 11 is mounted in paliars belonging to the cradle 10 and its distance from said shaft 12 is slightly greater than the length of the semi-minor axis of the opening of the pocket; in this way, the barrel, the arrow and the pocket can be driven, by an appropriate control, to rotate about the axis of the pouring shaft, the extension of which passes close to the spout of the pocket. The resulting advantage is that when the bag empties, the drop height of the glass remains constant around the pouring spout.

   The weight of the barrel, of the shaft 12, of the arrow
13 and pocket 14 is balanced by a counterweight
19 mounted between the flanges 17.

   On the pouring shaft 18 is keyed a toothed sector 20 with which cooperates a rack 21 coupled to the rod of a piston which moves in a double-acting cylinder 22 adjoining the cradle and further provided with a device. depreciation, the purpose and role of which will be explained later.

   The compressed air necessary for the operation of the piston driving the rack is supplied by a compressor 23 mounted on the turret 5 and driven by an electric motor and it is stored in two reservoirs 24 arranged on either side of the cylinder. the control cabin.

   On the pouring shaft is mounted a toothed wheel 25 having an even number of teeth and
 EMI5.1
 four notches 25a j 25, 25çJ 25d (f., 6 10) at its periphery; this wheel, the diameter of which is double that of the pinion 15, meshes with the latter.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 6>

   To make the rotation of the pocket around its axis integral with the rocking movement of the cradle
10 around its journals 9, the pouring shaft carries, mounted idle on it, a stirrup 26 between the branches of which the wheel 25 is arranged and which is provided with a counterweight 27 and a pawl 28 intended for cooperate with the beehives 25a to 25d (fig. 6 10).

   Beyond the small pinion 15 is wedged on the pocketing shaft 18, a flywheel 29 suitably balanced and intended to 3. allow the shaft to be controlled by hand in case, for some reason, the compressed air would come '- default.

   Stirrup 26, although it is crazy on the shaft
18, are however retained in a well-defined position of. that it is connected to a fixed point of the turret 5 by a connecting rod 30 of adjustable length.

   The pawl 28, oriented and arranged so as to transmit the driving force to the wheel 25, has an appropriate shape allowing it to engage at will in one of the four notches of said wheel, to remain engaged there if the resulting impulse tends to turn the wheel 2 $ clockwise and on the contrary to disengage it, if it is requested in the opposite direction.

   On the other hand, the rotation of the pinion 15 is only possible if the pawl 16 is released from the two notches 15 and 15b; the size of these and the shape and position of the pawl 16 are such that it disengages when the pinion 1 turns clockwise and vice versa, that is to say say that this movement is the reverse of that described above for wheel 25 and pawl 28.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 7>

   The tilting of the cradle and the barrel around the journals 9 for the pocketing is controlled by means of an elbow lever 31 articulated at 32 (fig. 3) between two flanges 33 fixed on the turret 5, below the cradle and to the 'back of it; this lever engages the cradle via a link 34 engaged between the branches of the fork formed by the lever 31 at its corresponding end.

   The other end of this lever is hitched to a slide 35 secured to move horizontally under the action of a piston 36 to which it is connected by a rod 37 and which can move in a fixed compressed air cylinder 38. on the turret below the cradle.

   An appropriate control (not shown) and maneuvered by hand by means of a handwheel, allows the bag to be raised in the event that the compressed air should fail so as not to leave the bag remaining in the bath. glass which would therefore become unusable.

   For a purpose which will be explained later, it is necessary to make the barrel integral with the cradle: at the start of the poaching operation, by a locking device which automatically separates the barrel from the cradle at the end of the process. poaching operation, so that pouring is possible.

   This locking device is controlled by the angled lever 31 and it is thus dependent on the movements of the piston 36; for this purpose, on the lever 31 is fixed a journal 39 on which is articulated the head of a small connecting rod 40 which can drive

 <Desc / Clms Page number 8>

 with it a rod 41 provided with a ring 42 carrying a finger 43. This rod d isposed horizontally above the cylinder 38 bears on the latter and on the support frame 7 by sliding in two bronze rings, one of which is shown at 14 (fig. 3).

   The lock itself is constituted by uie cylindrical rod 45 provided at its ends with two robust parts 46 and 47 calm on it so as to constitute a double hammer. This tigo is maintained parallel to the lateral face of the cradle 10 in two eyelets 48 fixed on the latter and it is retained so as not to slip by two stop rings 49, It can thus be oriented under the action of a fork 50, which, disposed at its lower part, rotates on it when it is pushed by the finger 43 which the angled lever 31 drives.

   Under these conditions, locking is obtained when the hammer-shaped jaws 46 and 47 are placed first at the lower part under the cradle, while the second is engaged on a pin 51 screwed into the barrel wall.

   Since it is important that the locking and unlocking be done with precision immediately at the start or at the end of the pocketing operation without the fork of the lock in any way interfering with the movements of the piston, the idea came to accelerate the impulse received by the fork with the aid of a counterweight 52, the balance of which is upset at a given moment.

   For this purpose, on the cradle is fixed a trigger guard

 <Desc / Clms Page number 9>

 bearing in its middle a journal on which can twist below the middle of its length, a rod 53 carrying the counterweight 52; rod passes through two eyelets, one of which 54 is integral with rod 45 and the other 55 of which is attached like the control fork to the lower ring in which the rod 45 passes. The counterweight 52 which is in the equilibrium position following the vertical, can also be retained at two other end points conditioned by the position and orientation that can occupy the two eyelets 54 and 55.

   In summary, the drive finger 43 first pushes the fork 50 of the lock and therefore the oscillating eye 55 opposite it, in the case of two parts being carried by the same ring, the counterweight 52 inclined at right or left depending on the case is brought under this influence to the vertical position,
Then the equilibrium being broken, the counterweight by falling rapidly turns the bolt 45 and when it maintains the cradle and the stud 51 of the barrel between its two ends, the two eyelets, after having oscillated, retain the rod 53 of the counterweight in the one or the other of the extreme positions that it must take.

   During this time, the fork is oriented in such a way that the drive finger 43 is released from it, but its position is such that the latter can, for the unlocking, come back to its contact from the start of the reverse stroke of the piston, necessary to restore the ladle to a horizontal position for the exit from the oven.

   The operation of the machine is as follows;

 <Desc / Clms Page number 10>

To facilitate the description of the operations and in order to fix the relative positions of the various members in their movements, it will be admitted once and for all in what follows, that the explanations are given by the operator of the machine located in the cab. maneuver and looking at the pocket in the direction of its arrow 13.

   The machine being at rest fig.6, the pocket 14 is turned over, the arrow 13 and the barrel 11 are kept in a horizontal position because the cradle 10 is held in balance on its journals 9 by the bent lever 31. In this position. , the piston 36 of the compressed air cylinder 38 is fully rearward (cab side) (fig. 3, 4 and 5).

   If the ladle is introduced into the oven by the translation of the carriage 4 on the bridge 1, the bagging operation can begin by introducing, through a special valve assigned at this time, compressed air on the rear face of the piston 36 As a result, the cradle is raised by pivoting around the journals 9 and the movement continues until the angled lever 31 occupies the position symmetrical to that shown in the pin); this lever constantly keeps the assembly in balance and prevents the pocket from beating in the mass of molten glass. During the descent, the rotation of the pocket occurs simultaneously so that its edge attacks the glass sheet at an angle of 40.

   At the same time as the piston 36 moved to the right of Fig. 3, the locking system of the barrel with the cradle worked.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 11>

   The explanation of the resulting poaching movement, which is obtained by combining, by a ratchet system, the plunge with the rotation of the pocket, can be done as follows:
When, under the action of the piston 36 starting from the rear end of the cylinder 38, the lever 31 switches the cradle, the pouring shaft 18, the toothed wheel 25 and the caliper 26, as well as the barrel of the 'pocket tree, are dragged with it. But the caliper, being retained on the other hand by the connecting rod 30, it follows that, its pawl 28, because it is housed in the notch 25a of the wheel 25, causes the latter to turn 90 around the pouring shaft for the duration of the pocket plunging movement.

   This rotation taking place in the opposite direction of clockwise movement, the toothed wheel 25 drives with it,: but in the opposite direction, the pinion 15 wedges on the shaft of the pocket, because in this case the pawl 16 can slide and come free of notch 15a. * As the ratio of the diameter of the wheel to that of the pinion is equal to 1/2, when the wheel 25 makes a quarter turn, the pinion 15 makes a half -tour and the pocket is completely turned over (fig.7).

   In other words, starting from the position shown in FIG. 6, the pawl 28 engaged in the notch 25a, having driven the wheel 25, this notch, originally located on the horizontal axis, has come towards the low on the vertical axis. During this time, the pinion 15 released from its pawl 16, because of the direction of rotation, has turned half a turn, or 180, so that

 <Desc / Clms Page number 12>

 notch 15b has taken the place of notch
15a in which the beak of the pawl 16 has fallen.

   It should be noted that when the bag tilts to enter the glass bath, it may happen that due to the greater or lesser viscosity of the latter, the reaction on the bag amplified by the length of the arrow 13 can counterbalance the preponderant effect of the mass of the barrel 11 on the counterweight 19.

   It follows that, the turning movement tending to be triggered, the driving wheel 25 no longer occupying the initial position corresponding to the engagement of the pawl 28 in the notches 25a or 25c as the case may be, the pinion 15 and its pawl 16 can no longer return, at the end of the poaching, to the positions which have been assigned to them in order to obtain the regular movements of the bag and consequently its filling of an always constant quantity of glass; this inconvenience is precisely avoided by locking the barrel on the cradle.

   At the end of the poaching operation, the piston 36 being at the end of the front stroke, the lever 31 occupies the position symmetrical to that shown in FIG. the bag is in the molten mass and full of glass, it must then be raised by actuating the piston 36 to the left of FIG. 3 to return the lever 31 to its initial position.

   The whole of the cradle carrying the pouring shaft, of the wheel 25 and of the caliper 26, is thus brought back to the horizontal position. The operation being the reverse of the previous one, the pawl 28 is released

 <Desc / Clms Page number 13>

 in the meantime, from the notch 25a to gain the next notch 25b shifted by 90 and remain there.

   The pinion 15 not having received, in any direction, an impulse from the wheel 25, remains blocked by its pawl 16 placed in the slot 15b, thus keeping the pocket filled with glass horizontally (fig. 8). , The ladle can then be removed from the oven without any inconvenience, by the backward movement of the carriage 4, In fact, no member can move without an external influence. On the one hand, the piston 36 is at full stroke , held by the trapped air, the two gears 15 and 25 are locked by their pawls 16 and 28 captive in their respective notches. The machine is then ready for the pouring operation.

   For this operation, the piston of the double-acting cylinder 22, adjoining the cradle, through the rack 21, attacks the toothed sector 20 wedged on the pouring shaft 18 by causing in its rotation the barrel of the shaft of the pocket which thereby is secured by its two flanges 17. For the reverse movement, after pouring, the barrel, starting from its high position, returns to its initial position in the cradle still under the action of the rack 21, combined with the action of the damping device provided on cylinder 22 and constituted for example by a ball which throttles the section of the passage offered to the compressed exhaust air.

   With the bag in the horizontal outlet position, air is admitted by means of a tap (different from that of poaching) to cylinder 22, under the

 <Desc / Clms Page number 14>

 tion of the rack 21 integral with the piston the sector 20 causes the barrel and the pocket to describe an arc of a circle around the pouring shaft, This rotation taking place in the anti-clockwise direction, the pocket tilts around its edge by describing an angle of 90 at while emptying of its contents.

   In this rocking movement, the caliper 26 not being stressed, remains in its position; but the pinion, driven by the rotation around the pouring shaft, tends to act as the satellite of the wheel 25 and to turn counterclockwise, which has the effect of holding the pawl 16 in the notch 15b where he was already prisoner, By a reaction effect, the wheel 25 is driven by the pinion 15 (which cannot turn) so that the pawl 28, disengaging from the notch 25b, slips in fear of falling back into notch 25c (fig. 9) 'At the end of this movement, pawls 28 and 16 being trapped, one in notch 25c, the other in notch 15b,

   the pocket is empty and it remains then to bring it back to its initial position (the barrel lay down in the cradle and the pocket turned back up) to then pass a cooling
Under the action of the rack 21, the barrel and the shaft return to position in a previous reverse movement.

   The wheel 25 being held in a fixed position by its pawl 28 and, by the reaction of the planet gear 15, the latter turns 180 in the direction of clockwise since the pawl 16 has been able to come out.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 15>

 from the notch 15b to slide towards the notch 15a, 4 at the end of this operation, the respective positions of the pawls are as follows: that 28 is trapped in notch 25 ± and that 16 is retained, in notch che 15a (fig. 10).

   This figure is Identical to figure 6. The pawl 16 is again engaged in the notch 15a, only the pawl 28 is passed from the notch 25a to the notch 25è on the same horizontal diameter, the toothed wheel 25 being idle on shaft 18. This does not matter, because by examining Figures 6 to 10, it can be seen that the notches 25b and 25d are used for the intermediate positions, but that on the contrary at the end or beginning. of a complete operation, the pawl 28 will always be engaged either in the notch 25a or in the notch 25c.

   Before returning to the oven to start another poaching operation, the bridge transports the ladle past the angle of the pelvis pinion opposite the laminator, and this is where the actual bagging takes place. las movements shown in fig.10 to empty pocket funds.

   The bag must then be refreshed. By maneuvering the trolley and the turret, the bag is introduced into a hood where a pressurized water pipe is placed allowing it to be watered copiously, both inside and out. 'outside,
From the above it can be seen that all the adjustment of the machine is conditioned by the distance from the point of articulation of the connecting rod 30, the length of which is adjusted once and for all at the center of the wheel 25.,

 <Desc / Clms Page number 16>

 on the one hand and on the other hand at the point of articulation of said connecting rod on the turret 5.

   For poaching and turning, the stirrup 2b thus being connected to the turret by the connecting rod 30 of constant length when the poehe lowers or rises around the axis of oscillation, the point of attachment of the connecting rod 30 to pawl 28 invariably occupies the same position in space, but its relative position in relation to the other organs is modified, To fix ideas, ¯ this point is subject to maintain itself, during the ascending and descending movements of the center of the wheel 25 at an equal distance from this center and its two relative positions are limited to the two points of intersection of the arc described with the directions of the two bisectors of the right angles forced by the two main axes (vertical and horizontal),

Depending on the distance of the wheel 25 from
 EMI16.1
 at the axis 3bscillation of the whole system, the movement of the center point of this wheel will have a greater or lesser amplitude displacement and it follows that the point of attachment of the connecting rod 30 to the caliper 26 n This is not unimportant, because for a determined amplitude of this movement, the wheel 25 must make a quarter turn.

   On the other hand, as all the members are in a fixed relation to each other, care must be taken to provide in the caliper 26 a slot elongated in the direction of the center of the wheel 25 making it possible to find with respect to the length of the connecting rod 30 the desired adjustment point,
During the pouring movement, the connecting rod

 <Desc / Clms Page number 17>

 twisted 30 thus adjusted, plays the role of a support or a crutch holding the entire mechanism in a horizontal position relative to the axis of oscillation.

   The position in space of the journal connecting the head of the connecting rod 30 to the caliper 26 remains invariable and during the rotation of this caliper, only its pawl 28 biased in one direction or the other can engage or disengage. notches, thus conditioning the movements. relative rotational elements of spur gears 25 and
15.

   By adding to the machine a second driving wheel identical to that 25 and placed symmetrically to the latter with respect to the main axis, it is thus possible to carry out the poaching by one of the edges of the pocket and the pouring by the 'other edge; This arrangement has the advantage of preventing that, if air bubbles have occurred in the mass of glass at the time of poaching and on the side of the mouth of the bag, these bubbles are not entrained and remain in the pocket base.

   Finally, while keeping the same support frame if the machine is doubled for the two-pocket maneuvers, it is thus possible to achieve all the combinations necessary for the manufacture of wired glass.

point of use, substantially as described and shown. -:- ABSTRACT Machine for picking up or poaching a substance in a receptacle and pouring it at any point of use, comprising a platform movable on rails and on which is mounted and can move transversely with respect to the rails , a trolley carrying a pivoting platform or turret on which are placed the organs controlling the poaching and pouring. The pocket intended to take the material in the receptacle and to pour it at the point of use, is attached to the end of an arm connected to a shaft which can be imparted a rotational movement and which is my - <Desc / Clms Page number 22> tee in a part called "barrel" this one can pivot around a shaft called "pouring" disposed parallel to the shaft of the barrel and journaling in a part called a cradle which can be journaled itself in a mounted support on the turret; the resulting inclination given to the arm carrying the pocket, combined with the rotation of this arm, makes it possible to carry out the poaching.
