EMI1.1
=====================
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

"Rotary duplicator with turning of the sheets" which was the subject of a patent application filed in Denmark on November 5, 1926, No. 2415.
EMI1.1
=====================
In known duplicators provided with a rotating drum and a lower printing cylinder, the drum rotates to the left to direct the sheets to the right and so that the movement performed by the person operating the machine can be controlled. , as is most natural for her, a movement of rotation to the right, toothed wheels are interposed between the crank and the drum to change the direction. These toothed wheels have the disadvantage of complicating the work and also of making the machine more expensive than it is useful.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The stop piece for the sheet fed from the left is on the right side of the contact line of the drum and the printing cylinder and is therefore partially covered by the drum, which is detrimental to the monitoring of the job.
In addition, in these machines open drums are most often used, with which it is to be feared deposits of the color or semi-liquid ink outside the drum.
The invention relates to rotary duplicators or the like, for copying or printing multiple copies, in which the drawbacks mentioned above are avoided and which present new and important advantages. The invention is more particularly characterized by the turning over of the sheets at the inlet or at the outlet so that they describe a loop-shaped path around the printing cylinder and that consequently the outlet takes place in the vicinity of the printing cylinder. entry, which allows you to see both operations at a glance. The turning or the curving of the sheets is carried out by special guides or by the very action of gravity or by these two combined means.
It is advantageous to choose the position of the point of exit of the sheets relative to that of entry, so that the movement which produces the impression is obtained by a rightward rotation of the drum which is convenient to close, so that gears are not necessary and no unnecessary resistance is offered to the printing or reproduction work.
The description which will follow with reference to the accompanying drawing given by way of example will make it clear how the invention can be implemented.
Figure 1 is a plan view.
Figs. 2 and 3 are side views of the color or ink or print distribution side.

The drum - placed in a frame 4 is provided with a crank 5.
The periphery of the drum consists of a cylindrical segment 6, suitable for the stencil or the composition and a recessed surface 7 which may be flat on which are arranged near a stop edge 9 one or more stops 8 adjustable for leaves. The printing cylinder 10 mounted in a movable frame 11 is adjusted by means of a lever 12, if preferred automatically. The contact line of the printing cylinder and the segment 6 is found in the example shown in figure left side of the drum a little below the horizontal median plane. In the initial position of the drum for each printing operation, for example when the lever passes a spring-loaded stopper which prevents its rotation to the left, the edge 9 is located directly below the contact line in question.
On the left side of the printing cylinder, but a little lower there is a sheet feed plate, or the like, bent upwards against the printing cylinder, and on the same side, but a little higher, a sheet evacuation plate 17 provided with guide fingers 16 or similar members. these parts can be, if desired, mounted in an adjustable and removable manner. In Figure 2 the discharge plate 17 is not shown.
In the case of a stencil drum, it is possible to make recesses 18 in its bottoms with the aim of making it possible to place in fixed bearings 20, provided in the frame 4, an appropriate friction cylinder 19 and then to be able to move in front of this cylinder in both directions as indicated by the double arrow 21 in FIG. 2, the inner wall of segment 6.
The color which, for example, is introduced by means of a tube into the drum, is distributed uniformly over the surface of the segment and moistens the stencil.
When the color is distributed the friction cylinder is removed from the bearings 20 and can optionally be placed in
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
other bearings 22 provided in the bottom of the drum: Bans this end the journals 23 of the friction cylinder are mounted so as to be able to be displaced axially and are spring loaded.
In the copying or printing operation, the maneuver turns the drum to the right with the right hand (arrow
24 of fig. 3) and brings the sheets one after the other with the left hand on the plate 15 against the stop 8. Of course the sheets can also be fed automatically. The sheet which has been fed is each time bent a little to the left by the passage of the edge 9 of the drum and is then brought by said drum, that is to say by segment 6 to be simultaneously printed and after this printing is completed, discharged onto the plate 17 or the like, the printed side facing up. The loop-shaped path described by the sheet is shown in Fig.3 by a dotted line.
The fingers 16 also serve to limit the mobility of the free part of the sheet. the details described are, as explained, only given by way of example. Thus the printing cylinder could be arranged above the horizontal midplane instead of below, and the discharge of the sheets could be done below instead of above the feed. Besides, feeding and discharging could be done on the right side of the drum. Instead of a drum one could use those and the stencil could be arranged on an endless ribbon guided around them.
