"DISPOSITIF 10 CURI7'"a PdUR DISTHEBU'BBURS'DIS LIQUIDÉ'
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
Le fonctionnement de l'appareil distributeur ainsi décrit est le suivant): préalablement à toute dis- tribut! on, on met en marche la pompe 45 de manière à remplir l'un des jaugeurs 4 ou 5;
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
@
Le liquide contenu dans la chambre 11 pénètre
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

"DEVICE 10 CURI7 '" for DISTHEBU'BBURS' DISTHEBURS 'DISTRIBUTION'
The present invention relates to liquid and especially gasoline dispensers for automobiles comprising two measuring vessels of equal capacity and alternately filled and emptied for the distribution of liquid in measured quantities.
In accordance with the administrative provisions currently in force, these distributors must be equipped with security devices to prevent fraud and
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
wrong maneuvers, preventing the start of the distribution of the liquid contained in one of the gauges as long as this gauge is not full or until the other gauge is not completely empty.
In the devices currently in existence, the second required condition is generally satisfied by means of a float placed on the distribution pipe of the device and capable of blocking the control mechanism of the distributor as long as this float is raised, that is to say. - say as long as the measuring container being emptied is not completely empty.
Unfortunately, floats are delicate components and in any case incapable of providing sufficient force to effectively block a mechanism which must be able to withstand brutal maneuvers.
The present invention proposes to remedy. this situation by providing a device that is both simple and very robust, satisfying the two conditions set out above and imposed by the administrative regulations.
This device is essentially produced by a piston sliding in a cylinder and having one face subjected to the pressure prevailing in the supply pipe of the measuring vessels, while the other face of the piston is in a chamber capable of being filled. by the liquid being dispensed, this chamber being provided with an inlet valve and an outlet valve both controlled by the piston rod; the latter being connected by means of suitable connecting members to the control mechanism of the distributor
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
so that depending on the position of the piston, this mechanism can be either immobilized or made free to operate.
An embodiment of the device in accordance with the invention is shown by way of example in the accompanying drawings in which:
FIG. 1 is a vertical section of a dispensing apparatus provided with the device.
Fig. 2 is a section along line 11-II of fig 1.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged view taken along line III-III of FIG. 1.
In these figures, at 4 and 5, we recognize the two gauges of a liquid distributor, connected at their upper part by an air exchange pipe 6 comprising at each end a float valve such as 7.
At the lower part of each measuring container 4 or 5 are provided two valves whose seats are oriented in the correct direction and which open as shown in fig 2, one 8 on the supply line 9 and the other 10 on the distribution chamber 11 of the apparatus, the pipe 9 and the chamber 11 being separated by a sealed partition 12,
The valves 8 and 10 tend to remain constantly in the closed position thanks to suitable springs 13 and 14 which urge them, Ues valves can be controlled two by two by means of two flails 15 and 16 acting on the valve stem. and fixed to the same axis 17, the pivot of which
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
is controlled by means of two bevel gears 18 and 19,
by a rod 20 on which can be engaged an oscillating lever 21 appearing on the outside.
The bodies described above are arranged
EMI4.1
such that when the valve ..a "a; (fJ1èt.i.tê..t1'Oh à 'of the gauge 4 is open, the distribution valve 10 of this gauge and the supply valve 8 of the gauge 5 are closed while the distribution valve 10 of the latter gauge is open.
The arrangements described above are, except for construction variants, common to most of the liquid measuring dispensing devices currently in service.
According to the invention, a piston 22 capable of sliding in a cylinder 23 at its face 24 subjected to the pressure prevailing in the supply pipe 9 while its other face 25 is presented in a chamber 26 capable of 'be filled with the liquid flowing in the distribution chamber 11.
This chamber 26 is, for this purpose, provided with an inlet valve 27 and an outlet valve 28; two valves having a natural tendency to remain open under the action of springs such as 29 ..
On the other hand the piston 22 is provided with a rod 30 cut in the shape of a wedge on the faces of which bear two small * pivoting levers 31 in relation to the rod 32 of the valves 27 and 28.
The piston 22 is finally urged by a spring 33, to remain in the position shown in FIG. 2, and for which the valves 7 and 28 are open and the volume of the chamber 26 as large as possible,
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
Finally, the piston 22 laterally comprises a ramp 34 cooperating with a bent rod 35 passing through the cylinder 23 and urged against the ramp 34 by a spring 36.
The bent rod 35 is terminated by a finger 37 directed downwards and capable, by descending vertically, of causing a rocker arm 38 to pivot at the end of the operating lever 21 which is my. crazy tee on rod 20 ,,
At its lower part, the rocker arm 38 has two fingers such as 39 below which extends a part 40 keyed on the rod 20 and bearing on its upper face two stops 41 likely to be encountered by one of the fingers 39 when 'we swing lever 21.
The lever 21 passes through the casing 42 of the apparatus in a horizontally elongated slot 43 and the extremities 44 of which limit the pivoting of the lever 21, the dispensing apparatus is finally completed by a pump 45 placed on the supply line 9 and preferably accompanied by a bypass or "by-pass" 46 to avoid creating too high pressures in line 9,
The operation of the dispensing device thus described is as follows): prior to any dispensing! on, the pump 45 is started so as to fill one of the gauges 4 or 5;
the rocker arm 38 is arranged so that by the pivoting of the lever 21 none of the fingers 39 meets one of the stops 41 ,, the lever 21 is therefore free to pivot without
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
exert the slightest influence on the apparatus, but when the gauge in question is completely full, the float valve placed at the top of this gauge closes abruptly and the pressure which immediately arises in the gauge as well as in the pipe 9 pushes back the piston 22 despite the action of the spring 23 and the resistance offered by the air contained in the chamber 26, the valves 27 and 28 of which close as soon as the piston 22 begins to move back,
The recoil of the piston 22 has the effect, thanks to the ramp 34, of causing the descent of the bent rod 35 despite the spring 36. The finger 37 of this bent rod encounters the rocker arm 38 and causes it to tilt in such a position. that if one acts on the lever 21 the finger 39 of the rocker arm 38 meets one of the stops 41. the rod 20 is thus entrained in the pivoting of the lever 21 and by the play of the gears 18 and 19 as well as the flails 15 and 16, the feed valve of the newly filled gauge closes while the dispensing valve opens,
This gauge thus empties into the chamber 11 from which the liquid flows, into a flexible pipe (not shown).
At the same time the supply valve of the other gauge opens, and this gauge begins to fill. The pressure prevailing in the pipe 9 drops and the piston 22 is pushed back by its spring 33 which takes up the place indicated in FIG. 2, following which the rod 35 rises and the valves 27 and 28 open under the action of their respective springs.
@
The liquid contained in chamber 11 penetrates
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
chamber 26 and does not take long to fill it. If the lever 21 is then actuated to attempt to distribute the liquid contained in the gauge during filling, this maneuver can have no effect since the rocker arm 38 has no effect. is not in the correct position,
It is therefore impossible to distribute the liquid from a gauge until it is completely full.
If, on the other hand, by actuating the pump very quickly we succeeded in filling one of the gauges before the other was empty, we would have created an overpressure in line 9, but the piston 22, one of which face is in the chamber 26 full of liquid can hardly move back,
because of the slightest movement the valves 27 and 28 close which also stops the piston 22. This situation can only change when the chamber 26 is empty of liquid, that is to say all the more so when the dipstick which was being emptied will be empty. Only then will it be possible for piston 22 to move back and, as indicated above ... will the piston rock rocker 38 from so as to allow the device to be operated by means of the lever 21.
It is obvious that the invention is not limited to the particular example which has just been described and
EMI7.1
that it would also be applied to. any type of dual gauge distributor. It is likewise possible to adapt the device in accordance with the invention to distributors provided with a single gauge so as to prevent one being able to stop one. distribution as long as the requested quantity is not served to the customer,
