Advanced seal packing.
The present invention relates to gaskets, or gasket washers which are commonly employed in flanged pipe joints. These gaskets generally include a sheet of asbestos or the like covered with a thin sheet of metal on one or both sides.
Such gaskets or seal washers have, of course, an opening corresponding to the pipe itself and there is also generally provided two or more holes for the passage of bolts or similar members securing one to the other. the other the flanges of the two pipes.
It should be noted that for any normal dimension of pipe, it is necessary to employ a large number of styles of gaskets or seal washers due to the varying spacing and diameter of the bolts connecting the pipes. to the. This is particularly true in the case of automobiles and garage managers are obliged to have in stock a large number of trim models for the same size.

normal pipe dimension.
The object of the present invention is a gasket or gasket washer designed in such a way that it can be used for a large number and even for all pipe joints of the same diameter.
Another subject of the invention is a gasket or gasket washer of improved construction ensuring better sealing of the joints.
According to the present invention, openings for the bolts or other securing members are provided in the washer or gasket, but these openings only pass through part of the thickness of the gasket and their surface. is larger than the cross section of the corresponding bolt; these openings are blind and the fitter must drill at least one thickness or sheet of material depending on the dimension and the. arrangement of the bolt to be used in the particular case considered for which the packing is to be used.
In the case of an opening comprising an airfoil or similar dobby sheet covered on both sides with a thin metal foil, the openings intended to receive bolts or the like and formed in advance pass through one of the metal sheets as well as the asbestos and respect the second metal sheet. The fitter only has to cut out the outer metal sheet which has remained whole, so as to form openings corresponding exactly to the position and diameter of the bolts or the like so that the latter properly secure the trim or washer.
The removal of part of the protective metal sheet and of the asbestos at two points diametrically opposed to the pipe allows the joint to be subjected to a greater pressure all around the pipe so that

the seal obtained is better than with the gaskets used until now.
By way of example, the accompanying drawings show an embodiment of the invention.
Figure 1 shows the trim in perspective,
The thread;. 2 shows the same trim seen in plan, and
Fig. 3 is a cross section thereof.
In the embodiment shown, the guard or seal washer comprises an asbestos sheet 1 covered

CLAIMS.
Gasket or gasket washer in which openings are sown for bolts or other fasteners, these openings not passing through the entire thickness of the gasket or washer and having a? surface greater than the section of said bolts or or- ane, these openings leave at the roins a sheet or thickness of metal which must be drilled by the fitter following the dimension and the. The arrangement of the bolts is to be used with the assembly in which the washer concerned is to be used.
