 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

   Comme il va de soi, et comme il ressort d'ailleurs déjà de ce qui précède, l'invention ne se limite aucunement celui de ses modes d'application, non plus qu'aux modes de réalisation de ses diverses parties ayant plus spéciale- ment été indiqués; elle en embrasse, au contraire, toutes les variantes, notamment: celle où l'anneua l serait remplacé par un segment d'anneau monté de façon analogue et se déplaçant également sur des rouleaux±; celle où le dispositif d'embrayage et de débrayage serait combiné avec la poulie entraînée; celle où l'organe de transmission ne serait pas une courroie, mais un câble (poulie à gorge;;

   Its aim, above all, is to make said devices such that they allow a simpler, faster and safer disengagement and engagement.

   It consists, mainly, in having recourse, to constitute the devices of the Kind in question, to means suitable for being interposed between one of the pulleys and the transmission member and. such that, brought into a certain position, they remove the adhesion between said parts, then ensuring the disengagement and that, brought into a certain other position, they allow the clutch. firmly to the invention, one. This is done as follows, or analogously.

   Considering, first of all, the elements other than those serving for disengaging and clutching, they are constructed in any suitable manner, for example in the usual manner, that is to say so that they include: a driving pulley has a driven pulley b a belt c wound on said pulley. and as it is driven by adhesion by the driving pulley a, the arc of adhesion of said belt and said driving pulley being equal to, or less (as shown in Fig. 1) or greater (as shown in Fig. 1). in Fig. 2) to 180 and that it drives, also by adhesion, the pulley b.

   Considering, then, the elements used for dis- '' clutching and clutching, they are not constituted by means suitable for being interposed between one of the pulleys, the driving pulley for example and the belt, and such that, brought into in a certain position, they remove the grip, then ensuring the clutch, and brought into a certain other position, they allow the clutch.

   For this purpose, the elements used for disengaging and clutching can be formed by: a part curved along an arc of a circle, with a radius slightly greater than the radius of the driving pulley, the angle of which at the center is a function of the aforesaid adhesion arc, the thickness of said part d being relatively small, and said part d being able to be formed by a single element (as shown in FIG.

   1) in particular in the case where the arc of adhesion is less than or equal to 180 by at least two elements d1 d1 (.as shown in fig. 2), in particular in the case where the arc of adhesion is greater

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 to 180, for example in the case of crossed belts, said elements being, in the latter case, established so as to be able to overlap, which part d can be mounted, coaxially on the axis of the pulley driving in the - case where it is composed of a single element, @ by the intermediary of two flanges f, for example in the form of a segment of a circle, mounted on a sleeve g, loose on the axis of the pulley , as shown in fig.

   1, each of the elements d1, in the case where the part d is composed of several elements being mounted in the same way, by means of flanges, on an independent sleeve, loose on the axis of the pulley; said flanges being able to be arranged in such a way that they can be opened or closed in the manner of a metal curtain; and means for moving said part d, so as to bring it between the driving pulley and the belt, when one wishes to disengage, and to disengage it, when one wishes to engage, said means being able to be constituted :

   in the case where the part d comprises a single element (fig. 1), by a lever h secured to said part d or to one of the flanges! which are integral with it, and, in the case where the part d comprises two elements d1 (fig. 2), by a kinematic system such that, by acting on a single lever h, integral with one of the flanges, the two elements d1, respectively in opposite directions, kinematic system which can be constituted by:

   two levers i, one end of which is articulated respectively on one of the flanges of the two elements d1, and the other end of which is articulated respectively at the ends of a lever j pivoting about an axis passing through its middle, the levers h can be operated either 2. by hand or by any other suitable means, for example by electric control; and by stop devices, to limit the loss

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

 placement of part d, in order to maintain it in the desired position.

   The displacement of. the part in the direction of rotation of the pulley, in order to facilitate disengagement, but, in the event that it would be necessary to move the part in the direction opposite to the direction of rotation of the pulley, it is advantageously possible to constitute the part of , as indicated above, by two elements, for example moved in the opposite direction relative to each other, so as to reduce the resistance opposing the maneuver or else, part d can be replaced by rollers ± carried by the flanges and able to rotate freely around their axes ± 1 engaged in holes provided in said flanges f.

   .Or again, the elements used for disengaging and clutching can be constituted by: a ring 1 of rectangular section (fig. 4), with a radius a little greater than the radius of the driving pulley a, of relatively thick low, mounted eccentrically and freely by means which will be described below, on the axis of the driving pulley, so that the latter is tangent internally to said ring and that the pressure which maintains these two parts in contact is sufficient to allow the drive of the ring 1 by the driving pulley (as in the case of transmissions by friction) and, consequently, of the belt. 2. through.

   the ring 1, the said pressure being produced by the tension of the belt c wound on the ring, the center of pressure being substantially in the center of the adhesion zone, means suitable for allowing the rotation of the ring around its axis of rotation (coincident with that of the pulley) to bring the point of tangency of the pulley and the ring outside the aforementioned grip zone, so that the pressure resulting from the tension of

 <Desc / Clms Page number 6>

 the belt has not had any influence on the driving of the ring by the driving pulley, so that the latter - without dragging the latter) re rolls freely on the inner face of the ring which means can consist of drive members carried by two flanges n normal to the axis of the pulley,

   arranged on each side of the driving pulley a, members which can be constituted by two series of rollers ± mounted respectively on axes p normal to the flanges n and tangent internally to the ring 1, the displacement of which will be favored by said rollers and the width of which is taken such that it covers the rollers o and the driving pulley a, the displacement of the flanges n being effected, previously corrected, for example by means of a lever g.

   This arrangement makes it possible to obtain a progressive and smooth release.

   As a result, we obtain a whole, the functioning of which is sufficiently obvious that it is unnecessary to give. his subject additional information.

   As goes without saying, and as is moreover already apparent from the foregoing, the invention is in no way limited to that of its modes of application, nor to the embodiments of its various parts having more special- been indicated; it embraces, on the contrary, all the variants, in particular: that where the anneua l would be replaced by a ring segment mounted in a similar manner and also moving on rollers ±; that where the clutch and release device would be combined with the driven pulley; that where the transmission member is not a belt, but a cable (grooved pulley ;;

   the one where the part d is not mounted coaxial

 <Desc / Clms Page number 7>

   Lement to the axis of the pulley by means of flanges but by any other suitable device, such as spokes; the one where. the control devices would be combined with a tensioning device r of any suitable type, the activation of this tensioner being able to be produced automatically when the clutch is engaged and its deactivation (resulting in to a decrease in belt tension) occurring automatically when disengaging;

   and one where the installation would include a driving pulley operating several driven pulleys and in which not only the driving pulley but also each of the driven pulleys would include a device of the specified type.
