<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

MEASURING DEVICE FOR LIQUIDS
Measuring devices are known for liquids, such as zero, for example, in which the liquid is brought under pressure to a measuring vessel comprising a measuring piston, the stroke of which in the vessel determines the volume / unit of '. liquid to be debited,
The present invention relates to measuring apparatus for distributing liquids of this category and its object is to ensure the rigorous accuracy of the measurement.
The means employed for this purpose consist on the one hand in the use of a reciprocal locking device of the measuring piston and of the reversing member
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
of the apparatus in combination with a separatuey device carrying out the separation and elimination of gases entrained by the liquid before sending this last to the measuring vessel.
Advantageously, the device will be completed by the addition in its distribution pipe of a shutter mechanism closing the distribution pipe and preventing any flow of liquid as long as a certain pressure does not exist in this pipe.
The accompanying drawing shows by way of example one embodiment of the invention.
Figure 1 is a longitudinal vertical section with part in elevation of a pump for liquids according to the invention.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal vertical section perpendicular to the plane of the drawing of Figure 1, part in elevation.
Figure 3 is a section along the line III-III of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is an elevation of the automatic locking device in an intermediate position of the reversing member.
In the example shown, a pump of any model has been designated by 1, for example a hand pump, the suction pipe 2 of which is in communia tion with a reservoir, not shown, by means of the pipe 3 , surrounded by an envelope 4.
The delivery pipe 5 of the oil pump 1 is in communication with a pipe 6, entering as far as the upper part 7 of a pipe 8. The upper part 7 of the pipe 8 has an exhaust channel. air 9 communicating directly with an opening

narrow ture 10, the purpose of which will be described below, and which is connected to a return pipe 11, terminating at 12 in the casing 4, leading to the reservoir.
The lower end of the pipe communicates via a connector 13 with the connector 14 of a distributor member 15, for example a multi-way valve, provided with connectors 16 and 18.
The valve plug 15 is integral with a part 17, having a flange 20 on which rests the measuring container 21 with a glass wall, closed by a cover 22, fixed by means of bolts 23. The capacity of the measuring vessel is divided into two compartments 25, 26 by a piston 24, the lower compartment 26 being able to communicate directly with the connection 16 of the valve 15.
The piston rod 27 is hollow and places the newer compartment 25 in communication with the cnambre 19 formed by the part 17, the cnambre 19 being in communication with a channel 28 of the key 29 of the valve. The channel 30 of this key, is in the position of figure 3, in communication with the connector 16 and the inlet connector, while the channel 19 is in communication with the connector 18 of the valve by means of the channel 28 of the key.
The connector 18 communicates with a cnambre 31 which automatically ensures the setting to the atmosphere by a piston valve 32, provided in nautical form with a disc 33. A coil spring 34 by pressing on this disc maintains the piston valve. The edge 35 of the piston valve and the stops 36 located in the cnambre 31 limit the stroke of the piston valve,
The interior of the cnambre 31 communicates with the connector 18 by means of channels 37, while the piston valve 32 has no passages 38, including
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The fitting 18 communicates with the interior of the piston valve and with the atmosphere, when the piston valve is in its lower position.
In addition, the apparatus has a reciprocal locking device between the piston rod 27 and the end of the valve 29. The construction of this device is as follows:
The key 29 is provided with a handle 39, the rotation of which is limited by stops 40,41. The key (Figure 4) is provided at one end with a transverse groove 42 and a second transverse groove 43 perpendicular to the first. The key 29 also carries a toothed sector 44 emponant sipping in one direction and a second sector 45 preventing its rotation in the other direction.
The sector 45 is, according to Figure 4, engaged with a pawl 46, mounted on an annular part.
47 which can be fixed in an adjustable manner on the rod 27 of the piston.
A second, similar and annular part 48 fixed in the same manner in FIG. 27 also carries a pawl 49. These two pawls are guided by a tenon and groove assembly 50,51 and are spaced apart by a common spring 52.
The locking member can be given a length corresponding to that of the stroke of the piston 24 by suitably fixing the annular pieces 47,49 on the rod 27.
The parts 46, 49 are engaged either in the grooves 43 and 44 of the key 29, or between guides 53 fixed in the cnambre 19 (Figures 2,4); the parts 46, 49 which constitute the lock move with the rod 27 of the piston 24, the stroke of which is limited by the stops 54-55 cooperating with the stops

56.57 of rod 27.
The piston rod 27 passes through the bottom 20 of the measuring vessel in a stuffing box 63 in which there is a ring 64, connected to a channel 65 which communicates by means of a pipe 66 with the end. casing 4, This arrangement allows the evacuation of the oil coming from the (camber 26 through the packing 63 The casing 4 has an air intake opening 67.
The operation of the device and the following:
While pumping, the air possibly entrained by the liquid will escape through the narrow opening 10 and the pipe 11 and will return to the envelope 4, However as soon as instead of air (or another gas) of the oil (or another liquid reaches the opening 10, the pressure increases and the oil (figures 2 and 3) is discharged through the channel 30 of the key 29 and the fitting 16, into the shaft 26 of the container measurement 21 under the piston 24, which moves towards the naut by driving the piston rod 27.
The faucet key cannot be moved at this time as the latch 46-49 engages one of the pairs of grooves 43 on the key. As soon as the piston 24 has reached the stop 55, the lock 46-49 is above the key, and the latter can be turned in the direction allowed by the toothed sector 44 and until the handle 39 is stopped by the stopper 41. Continuing to pump, the oil now entering the channel 28 of the key, can reach through the hollow rod 27 of the piston 24 the upper part 25 of the measuring vessel and forces the piston 24 downwards. The oil which was brought under the piston during the previous stroke, is now discharged by the ca- -, it
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
nal 16 and channel 30 of the key now communicating with connection 18.
Because of the overpressure produced, which can be transmitted to the onember 31, the valve 38 opens and the measured quantity of oil is thus discharged.
In the meantime, while continuing to pump, the shaft 25 of the measuring vessel was collapsed when the piston rod was stopped by the stopper 56.
The key is unlocked and can be operated by means of the handle 39 until it stops by the stop 40; the toothed sector 45 prevents a counter-directional rotation.
From the point of view of guarantees against voluntary or involuntary fraud, it follows from the foregoing that, first of all, the initiating member can only be operated upon arrival at the end of the stroke, bottom or naut of the piston meter; that any maneuver started from this reversing body must necessarily be complete in one direction or the other; that the displacement of the measuring piston is made impossible as long as the started stroke of the reversing member is not

completft \ 1 \\ X completed.
Any complete stroke of piston 24 will be recorded when moving the valve key, if care is taken to provide it with a spout 58 actuating a totalizing counter mechanism and a partial counter 60 by means of a rod 62 , out of the box 61.
A cover 68 makes the lock accessible for inspection and assembly.
