<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Ce diapason esten outre pourvu d'un second contact 6, de préférence réglable quant à la durée de son contact. Ce second contact, qu'on peut disposer pour qu'il soit fermé quand le premier est ouvert, est connecté à la grille 7 d'une lampe thermionique 3 à travers un circuit comprenant en série: une paire 'de contacts indiqués en 9 et disposés de façon à être fermés à des intervalles de temps donnés (par exemple toutes les secondes)par un chronomètre 10, une batterie 11 (de 24 vol ts par exemple) dont le pôle négatif est du côté de la gril- le 7, une résistance 12 (de 4000 ohms par exemple);
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

"IMPROVEMENTS IN ELECTRIC FREQUENCY STABILIZERS OR TIME CONTROL DEVICES"
The invention relates to frequency stabilizers or time control devices.
It is found that oscillating devices such as tuning forks are subject to slow and small changes in frequency and the main object of the present invention is to provide the means of automatically correcting these changes under the control of a time standard such as 'a stopwatch.
According to the present invention, the frequency stabilizer or control device. time includes in combination
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
an oscillator device, such as a tuning fork, means, such as a braking coil, for increasing or decreasing the frequency of the oscillator in question, a time standard, such as a stopwatch and means for controlling the braking coil or its equivalent according to the time during which a certain operation of the etalon coincides with a certain operation of the oscillator, so that the frequency of the latter remains closely linked to that of the etalon.
The intention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing which schematically shows one way of carrying out the invention.
With reference to the Figure, the oscillator is a tuning fork 1 adapted to be kept in vibration by the known method, by means of a coil 2 supplied by a local battery 3 in series with a resistor 4 and a contact 5 on a branch. - che la du diapason.
This tuning fork is also provided with a second contact 6, which is preferably adjustable as to the duration of its contact. This second contact, which can be arranged so that it is closed when the first is open, is connected to the grid 7 of a thermionic lamp 3 through a circuit comprising in series: a pair of contacts indicated at 9 and arranged so as to be closed at given time intervals (for example every second) by a stopwatch 10, a battery 11 (of 24 vol ts for example) whose negative pole is on the grill side 7, a resistor 12 (of 4000 ohms for example);
a second battery 13 (of 7 1/2 volts for example) whose positive pole is towards the grid and a second resistor 14 (of 2 megchms for example). The negative pole of the battery 13 is connected to the cathode 15 of the lamp and to a fixed point of the tuning fork through a capacitor 16, for example 4 microfarads, shunted by a leakage resistor 17 (of 0 , 25 megohms for example).
The anode 18 of the thermionic lamp 8 is connected to the grid 19 of a second thermionic lamp 20 through a negative voltage battery 21 of 12 volts for example, and
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
also at the cathode through a resistor 22 of 2 megohms for example, and a high voltage battery 23 (of 50 volts for example) in series, said resistors and batteries being shunted by a capacitor 24 of 5 microfarads for example.
The anode 25 of the lamp 20 is connected through a milliammeter 26 to a brake coil 27 associated with the tuning fork, and from there through a high voltage battery 28 (of ¯
120 volts for example) at the common point of filament 29.
The braking coil is arranged so as to activate the tuning fork when it is supplied with power and, if desired, a second braking coil 30 supplied through a variable resistor 31 by the battery 3 can be provided for adjustment purposes.
It should be understood that the numerical values appearing in the embodiment described above are given only by way of example and can be changed within wide limits as required.
The operation of the system is as follows: Let 35 periods be the correct frequency of the tuning fork. At each 35th vibration, the contact 6 of the tuning fork and the contacts 9 of the timer will be simultaneously closed for a period of 1 / 80th of a second for example. During this period, a negative potential will be applied to the grid 7 of the lamp 8 by the battery 11, and when after the expiration of this period, the contacts 9 open, the capacitor 16 is discharged. slowly through its shunted resistor 17, thereby causing gate 7 to return to its normal potential determined by batches 13 and the gate current.
It can be seen that the voltage drop which occurs in resistor 22 of the anode circuit of the first lamp applies a negative potential to line 19 and, as this voltage drop depends on the anode current, the application of a negative voltage to the gate 7, in
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
reducing the anode current tends to reduce the negative potential applied to the gate 19 and said gate therefore tends to take a positive potential determined by the anode battery 23 associated with the first lamp.
However, the capacitor 24 in the plate circuit of the first lamp tends to oppose this rise in potential, the said capacitor taking a charge current through the resistor associated with it and thus preventing the gate 19 from d. 'reach its maximum positive potential, as long as the capacitor is not charged to this potential. By a suitable choice of the values of the elements of the two gate circuits, we can make the positive and negative potential variations lA.8 of the second gate last for a certain time (for example 5 seconds) if we allow them to reach. their maximum.
But since contact occurs every second, an average value of the two variations will be established. and a current of substantially constant value at average dependent on the potential of the second grid will flow in the braking coil as long as the duration of the coincidence of the contacts of the dial and the stopwatch remains constant.
If, on the other hand, the frequency of the tuning fork varies, the duration of the simultaneous contact will vary and a correction will be caused by the braking coil. In this way, an average control is exerted by this coil which tends to keep the average frequency of the tuning fork a constant multiple of that of the stopwatch or other time standard.
