 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Interrompu, afin de permettre le retoar da courant, Au. con- traire le procédé de la présente invention offre les avanta- ges   solvants;

  "Method for the placement of railway crossings"
The present invention relates to a method for the placement of railway crossings, by welding (whether it is a crossing at right angles or at any acute angle). The process is applicable both as renewal after wear of crosses already in service, and as construction of new crosses.

   Figures 1 to 3 show the different phases of the process of placing a crossing piece.

   For the first phase of the work, a torch is cut in the usual lengths of the rails, the necessary crossing pieces in question, of which in fig. 1 the uninterrupted rail, is designated by I, and the two pieces of the rail which crosses by II and III. On the other hand, according to FIG. 1 we have taken as an example a crossing at right angles.

   Now, before adapting the two parts II and III

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 on the uninterrupted rail, we cut in a V shape using the torch v for the penetration zone, in the rails qai intersect, the beads K, including the conductive edge L and the bottom of the groove G, jasqa 'at the lower edge k of the profile of the head (fig. 2 and 3). In the next phase of work, the base plate 2 is placed in the form of a cross under the runners of the rails, in the crossing zone, and the two sides of the runners of the rails are welded in the usual way along the ridges a , as shown in fig. 1 by endulated lines.

   Then we fill with soadé metal, as shown in figure 2 by cross hatching, up to the height mn of the bottom of the groove, the hollow space in the shape of a pyramid, enclosed between the four pieces of crossing rails, and from the notches made.

   Pais, continuing to weld metal on this base, one makes for all the four pieces of rails, the boxes K with the conductive edges L. By the connection thus created of the parts of profile: KI-KII, KI-LII, LI -KIII and LI-LIII, the pieces of rails are welded in a seale crossing piece.

   Until this day, the crossings were constructed in such a way that the necessary pieces of rail were cut with a hacksaw into the usual lengths supplied by the rolling mill, because an exact adaptation of the adjacent rails was absolutely necessary. The use of the torch was not possible with this process, so it was not possible to obtain the absolutely flat and exactly fitting cross-sectional area which was required. Then we made the branching transversely to the uninterrupted rail by the planing of the head of the latter sar the width of the groove and jasqa'à the depth thereof.

  Then the morceaax rails thus prepared were welded together so as to form a crossing piece. The depon-

 The workload for sawing the pieces of rails and for planing the uninterrupted rail was high.

   In addition for crossings of tracks with electric traction, one had to screw copper brackets on the two pieces of the rail.
Interrupted, in order to allow the retoar da current, Au. in contrast, the process of the present invention affords the advantageous solvents;
The cutting of the longaeunt of rails necessary for the crossing, especially for the interrupted line, can be done with a torch in order to spare. time and labor, since an adjustment of the morcoaux of adjacent rails in the area of the crossing is absolutely not taken into account. The planing of the uninterrupted rail profile, which involved a high expenditure of time and a salary, is completely eliminated.

   The digging of the borrelet and the conductive edge of the rails can be done with a torch in a few minutes.

   Similarly the making of the profile of the rail by soldering. metal is done quickly, and requires little labor. For tracks with electric traction, the copper stirrups required until now have been omitted. Unlike the method employed heretofore, which required a hacksaw, a planer and a milling machine, the method of the present invention can be carried out only by means of the torch and with the aid of an known solder.
