<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>

The present invention relates to a rotary refrigeration machine of the type which comprises a rotor formed of two closed capacities, connected by a common hollow shaft, one (or refrigerant) in which the evaporation of the gas occurs. a liquefied gas, the other (or condenser) containing a compressor by the effect of which the gas is again liquefied.
This compressor is carried by a casing mounted idle on the hollow shaft and ballasted so as not to accompany the condenser in its rotation.
According to the present invention, the compressor has its twin cylinders in tandem and its corresponding cylinders or pistons are actuated directly by an eccentric integral with the hollow shaft, the entire compressor being articulated to the housing.
The eccentric controls at the same time the admission of gas to the cylinders of the compressor. To this end, it has a radial perforation which communicates with a groove prevailing on a

@ part of its perimeter and with the hollow shaft. The inlet ports of the cylinders opening in the plane of said groove, each of them is unmasked and placed in communication with the hollow shaft during the suction stroke of the corresponding cylinder.
In addition, the hollow shaft is built in one piece, which avoids any fatigue on the walls of the condenser and its seals which no longer cooperate in the transmission of power.
The liquefied gas is separated from the lubricating oil by centrifugation in a cooled rotating compartment, integral with the condenser. It is subjected to this centrifugation, either directly or after having undergone a first settling in a capacity at rest secured to the ballasted casing of the compressor. It is captured, after purification, by a tube kept fixed, in communication with a passage of 1! hollow shaft, passage through .. which it reaches the coolant.

by a motor shaft 3, hollow over all or part of its length. The shaft 3 is in one piece, it passes through the condenser and the condenser and rotates with them in one, two or three stages 4,5,6, according to the needs imposed by the dimensions or by the application of the machine.
In the condenser is suspended, loose on the shaft 3, a frame or casing 7, filled with oil, with settling chamber 8, ballasted by a counterweight 9 (fig. 3) and which contains a compressor. , twinned in tandem single-acting, 10, with two cylinders 11 and two pistons 12. This compressor surrounds an eccentric 13 which controls it, with which it is directly in contact and on which it is energetically and contiguously applied. plique by the pressure in the condenser.
The said eccentric forms a rotary slide for admission and distribution of the gas sucked by the compressor, into the refrigerant, through the interior of the central tube 14, the two ends of which are crimped (or otherwise fixed) against the internal walls of the hollow shaft. To this end, said eccentric has a hole 15 which connects its periphery to the channel of the oreux shaft and a groove 16 prevailing over only part of the circumference of the eccentric.
As a result of this arrangement, the gas sucked in through the interior of the central tube is no longer in contact with the ducts and the hot parts of the casing, as in existing machines, and does not expand there. more.
It penetrates after a very short journey into the cylinders 11, through a hole 17 made in the bottom of the latter which, after having compressed it, push it back through a hole 18 and an ordinary blade breather 19. The gas cools a first time, condenses and liquefies against the cold wall of the condenser, mixed with the oil which constantly flows through a hole drilled in the bottom of the crankcase frame.
This mixture forms against the wall of the rotating condenser a first liquid ring 21, in which a ra-
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
Debt fixed 22 which returns it to the settling chamber 8, where a first separation takes place of the two liquids at rest, by virtue of their difference in density. The oil, which floats, returns to the crankcase through a hole 23, while the coolant, instead of accumulating as usual in a stationary compartment of the crankcase, flows through a fixed tube 24 behind a partition 25. .
This partition 25 forms, with one of the bottoms of the condenser, a rotating chamber in which a second liquid ring is formed, which undergoes a second cooling, as well as a new and energetic separation of the oil by the centrifugal force. The oil, less dense than the liquefied gas, accumulates in the center of this liquid ring and flows into the condenser through the central orifice of the partition 25.
Into this second liquid ring, immerses a fixed collector tube 26, the upper part of which, located in the zone of the purified liquefied gas, represents a port 27 through which this liquid, in rotation and under pressure, is expelled into the annular space 28, always full of return liquid during operation, which reigns around the central tube 14. This space communicates with the condenser only through the collecting tube 26 and with the refrigerant only through the tube 30, to. through which the liquid returns to the refrigerant.
As shown in fig. 6, the fixed manifold pipe 26, collects the liquefied gas directly in a swelling 21a of the liquid ring 21, formed by an enlargement of the wall of the condenser, in which swelling all the refrigerant liquid accumulates after having separated from the oil by the centrifugal force combined with the difference in density, the inlet orifice 27 of the fixed collector tube 26, being located higher than the scraper 22 and therefore only able to pick up liquefied gas, while the squeegee 22 can only pick up oil.
Splitting its path through the annular space, the liquid undergoes, before its return to the refrigerant, a third and
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
final cooling, in contact with the central tube inside which the cold gas passes, and in contact with the hollow shaft, in its part closest to the refrigerant, part which is always cold by conductivity.
A self-expanding liquid return regulator is installed in the refrigerant; it serves at the same time to equalize the pressure in the refrigerant and the condenser when the machine is stopped. It essentially consists of a liquefied gas return pipe 30, a pipe which is connected by a tube 28, housed in the hollow shaft, common to the two parts of the rotor, with a non-rotating tube 26, which draws the liquefied gas. in the condenser. The pipe 30 carries at its end a mass 31 which covers it and which controls its outlet orifice, either simply by applying itself to its end, or by means of a needle 42 resting on a conical seat as shown in FIG. drawing.
This needle slides inside the pipe 30 which guides it, It carries at its lower part a bulge 43 with grooves, through which the liquid enters the chamber formed beyond the needle, to then pass through the holes 44, in pipe 45, constantly dipping into the liquid ring of liquefied gas that forms in the rotating refrigerant. Pipe 45 rotates with the refrigerant. Its arrangement prevents any projection of liquefied gas into the gaseous medium of the device.
The mass 31 and the needle, which are subjected to the action of centrifugal force, are connected by a bracket 32 to a bowl 33, sliding along a guide 34 with a stop, diametrically opposed to the pipe 30, La bowl has its bottom pierced with a hole 35.
The weight of the mass 31 and that of the bowl are chosen so that the mass is heavier than the empty bowl, while on the contrary the weight of the bowl full of coolant is greater than that of the mass.
The bowl 33 is fed by a tube 36 which does not rotate and acts as a scraper in the ring of liquefied gas which forms in the rotating refrigerant. Tube 36 brings
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
the liquefied gas in a collecting vessel mounted idle on the hollow shaft and ballasted so as not to rotate with the rotor. From this container, the liquid falls either through a weir or through a pipe 39, into an eccentric rotating gutter, from which it is expelled by centrifugal force. It escapes through the opening 41 to fall into the opening 33 throughout the duration of the rotation.
The refrigerant liquid could moreover directly feed the eccentric gutter, without passing through the intermediary of the receptacle 37, by arranging the tube 36 so that it is made fixed in the rotating liquid, by a dis- positive weight of any appropriate ballast.
Be that as it may, when the mass 31 has: let too much refrigerant liquid pass, the scraper 36 brings this excess liquid to the bowl 33, the weight of which then becomes predominant and under the action of centrifugal force, forces the mass 31 to reduce or even completely stop the inflow of liquefied gas coming from the condenser.
If, on the contrary, this liquefied gas arrives in too small a quantity, the contents of the bowl no longer counterbalance the action of the mass 31 and let it take the predominance to release it out of the liquefied gas return pipe.
In practice, moreover, a proportional operating speed is automatically established. the section of the return port of the liquefied gas with the output of the machine, thus precisely regulating the cycle of the circulation of gases and liquids.
As soon as the machine is stopped, the bowl 33 empties completely through the hole 35 and, by virtue of the overpressure existing in the condenser and the cessation of the centrifugal force, the mass 31 slides freely on tube 30 and releases the orifice therefrom. The pressure balance can therefore be established automatically between the two capacities constituting the refrigerant and the condenser.
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
In the variant of FIG. 5, the self-expanding regulator does not rotate with the hollow shaft, but it is fixed on the non-rotating collecting vessel 37. The bowl 33, the bottom of which is pierced with the leakage hole 35, is placed under the orifice of discharge of the tube or the weir 39, at the end of a beam 32a. This balance which is articulated on 37, carries at its opposite end, a mass
31a which forms a needle regulating the orifice for the flow of liquefied gas into the refrigerant.
The compressor 10 shown in fig.l and 3 consists of two cylinders, paired in tandem which are subjected to the action of the control eccentric, so that the pistons 12, interconnected by the columns 42, form an assembly which oscillates around an axis 43 of the housing 7. The soft cylinders can moreover be cast in one piece or assembled afterwards.
According to fig. 4, it is the pistons 12 which move under the control of the eccentric 13 in the cylinders 11, assembled accordingly and the assembly of which is articulated at 43.
Instead of a single compressor, there can be several juxtaposed on shaft 3.
In the machines currently in use, the casing suspended on the motor shaft undergoes, during the irregular work of the compression of the gas, in spite of its ballast counterweight and the arrangement of the cylinders, a balancing which is extremely detrimental to the efficiency. first, at the cylinder's dead center during which the ballast counterweight tends to fall from a certain height, and, second, to the irregularity of the quantity of gas which is then retained by the cylinders at each revolution.
This balancing can go, by accumulated oscillations, up to the movement of the ballast counterweight in the rotation of the apparatus. to remedy these drawbacks,. ensure the stability of the ballast counterweight and the invariability of the quantity of gas retained in the cylinders at each compression, we add to the housing 7 a stabilizing flywheel 44, mounted idle, or on the hub 45 of this housing, or even on the motor shaft. This steering wheel,
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
of appropriate weight, constitutes by its rim a mass of inertia which moves only when it is set in motion by an external force independent of it.
In this flywheel is a notch or groove 46, into which penetrate one or more cleats or fingers 47, rigid or elastic, with or without moderator brake, fixed to the housing. These parts are arranged so as to leave a certain play on the flywheel and on the housing in the direction of rotation. A flywheel 44a similar to 44 can be placed in the coolant near the ballasted part 37, to damp its oscillations.
As soon as a rocking of the casing or of the weighted part 37 begins, the cleat they carry abuts against the end of the groove and the inertia of the flywheel, immediately opposing the amplification of this swing, restores complete stability on first contact and after a very small number of decreasing oscillations.
The rotary refrigeration machine perfected as indicated above is remarkable for the regularity of its operation, its stability, its simplicity, the safety of its operation and its efficiency compared to the machines currently known.
It should be understood that the shapes and construction details of the members described and shown are in no way limiting and may be varied or replaced by equivalents, without the principle of the invention being altered as a result.
