Description
<Desc/Clms Page number 1>
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc / Clms Page number 1>
Process for the manufacture of a preservative mixed fertilizer.
It is known that Thomas flour does not simply allow mixing with ammonia because there is free lime in Thomas flour which decomposes the ammoniacal salt with release of ammonia. To remedy this drawback, it has already been proposed to carry out the manufacture of a mixed fertilizer by means of Thomas flour and ammonia salts in the presence of excess sulfuric acid, the operation of manufacturing the mixed fertilizer - te being thus combined with the manufacture of ammonium sulphate. In this operation, the free lime is transformed into plaster which is obviously without action for the plants. It has also been proposed, by means of the simultaneous use of salts of potash, a mixed fertilizer which contains the three constituents potash, nitrogen and Phosphoric acid.
In this case also the saturation of the free lime is effected by means of sulfuric acid, and the
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
lime is also transformed here into plaster of no value for plants.
It is also known that it is currently possible to manufacture nitric acid economically from gaseous ammonia by combustion. According to this principle, sulfuric acid is replaced in accordance with the present invention in the process indicated above by nitric acid. In this way, one does not obtain the worthless plaster but the calcium nitrate which is used as it has already been known for a long time as a successful chemical fertilizer under the name "Norge Salpeter". It is possible to suppress, for this body, the action of water absorption and deliquescence, by the addition of potash and to create a fertilizer which contains phosphoric acid, nitrogen and potash under a shape that keeps absolutely well.
It is furthermore possible to manufacture in this way a fertilizer containing only nitrate nitrogen which, as is known, is currently more estimated than sulphate nitrogen since the residue of sulfuric acid, having a physiological acidic action, ammonia sulfate is suppressed.
By this new process we are therefore able to provide a chemical fertilizer which contains nitrogen in the presently preferred form at the same time as the phosphoric acid of Thomas flour and which can at the same time be mixed with potash. to be able to provide all the constituents necessary for plants in a single fertilizer.
