 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

     En partie pour obtenir un@auto-allumage certain pour toutes les sharges du moteur, mais en particulier pour éviter la précipàtation ou la condensation de par- ticules d'huile sur les parais de la chambre de combu= stion, ces parais ne sont pas refroidies directement par de l'eau, mais sont constituées par.une chemise iso- lante 13, qui présente extérieurement une forrme en par- tie conique, en partie cylindrique et qui comporte à

 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

  Internal combustion engine for liquid fuel
The present invention relates to an internal combustion engine for liquid fuels, in which the fuel is introduced directly into the compression chamber and is gasified therein and effectively mixed with the combustion air of the engine, without causing any further damage. compressed air supplied from the outside, jet valves or other delicate auxiliary mechanical parts, are necessary, in such a way that the gasification and the efficiency of the mixture automatically increase almost proportionally.

 squared the speed of:

   engine, which ensures satisfactory combustion occurring at the exact moment, even in the case of oils with high boiling point and at high speeds of rotation.

   The invention is described in detail below with reference to the accompanying drawing, which shows by way of example, in axial vertical section, two embodiments of the cylinder head of an engine constructed according to invention.

   Fig. 1 .represents the invention applied, in its initial form, to. a two-stroke engine, the piston 1 of which has a recess 2, which also serves, as usual, as a deflector for the purging air.

  The upper part of this recess has the shape of an inclined, rounded or curved dispersion surface. The fuel. Is injected through the tube 4 in the form of a dense jet, at a right angle. Or little different from a right angle with respect to the axis of the piston, and violently meets the dispersion surface, at a more or less acute angle.

   The fuel injection must occur abruptly and extend only over an angle of 10-15 of a turn of the crank; it can be done, for example, about 200 before the piston reaches its neutral position.

   The piston is shown in the drawing in the position for which injection begins, while the dashed line shows the position for which injection ceases.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

   Points 3 and 6 show the locations where the dispersion surface is encountered first and finally by the fuel jet. 7 and 8 denote the corresponding despersion angles, at which the pulverized fuel is discharged into the combustion chamber 9 in the form of a fan mist * As a result of the curved profile of the dispersion surface and the movement axis of the piston during injection, the dispersion takes place at continuously changing angles, so that the fan-shaped fuel mist rotates, in the direction indicated by the arrow, around its starting bridge, and leaves them. - fuel cells are divided by the combustion chamber compression air, after which the charge is instantly ignited and burns efficiently *
On the drawing,

   the combustion chamber is shown as having a semi-conical shape and as being completely cooled by water, but it can also be shaped to exactly match the spread of the dispersed fuel. It can also be arranged to partially allow preheating, to ensure ignition when starting the engine, in the case where it * ci'7-comprises a compression of average value.

   In fig. 2, which also represents the invention in its application to a two-stroke engine, the piston 1 comprises a bottom of essentially conical shape, 2 with a protrusion in the form of a stud, which also constitutes the dispersion surface 3, against which the fuel is projected by the nozzle 4.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

   When the piston occupies its highest position, as represented by the dashed line, its interrupted 5, its bottom almost completely fills with the bottom of the cylinder 11, of a corresponding shape, and the stud 2 then enters a conical opening, of corresponding shape, 10, in the bottom of the cylinder, which communicates with the combustion chamber 9 and fills this opening, leaving a certain free space.

   The combustion chamber 9 has a partly half-conical, partly half-annular shape, with a conical projection 12 in the middle of the half-annular space, so that the point of this projection 12 is directed towards the. opening 10 of the bottom of the cylinder.

   The fuel injection is produced in the same way as has been described with reference to FIG.

  1, and the jet is sprayed and dispersed in the same way from the dispersing surface 3 of the projection 2.

  At the same time, the air, which is still between the bottom of the cylinder and the bottom of the piston, is forced back into the combustion chamber during the subsequent movement of the piston to top dead center, and, while the air is withdrawn. flows through the conical annular slot, formed by the protrusion 2 partially filling the aperture 10, it causes a fairly energetic current of air, which follows the surface of the protrusion 2 and collects in a place located above this protrusion, after which it is again divided by the conical protrusion 12 of the combustion chamber.

   The air there produces an annular vortex, which fills the entire combustion chamber and takes its hemispherical shape, until it reaches opening 10 and is again broken up by the air, which meets the surface. Iberian next

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

 A right angle.

   In addition to the fact that it cleans the dis- pers% ion surface of the protrusion by removing the oil which adheres to it, the current of air still has the effect that the particles of fuel, projected down from dispersioh surface, are further pulverized and gasified.

  These particles are entrained by the air current and thrown against the conical protrusion 12, where they are further divided and rejected approximately radially into the air passing past this protrusion, so that they are further pulverized and mixed in a manner. effective have all the air in the combustion chamber, due to the formation of the vortex described above.

   The described gasification and mixing process is, by its nature, not only completely safe, but also has the particular advantage that its efficiency increases automatically and approximately in proportion to the square of the number of revolutions of the engine. , so that it becomes possible to achieve satisfactory combustion at the right time even in high speed engines.

     Partly to obtain a certain self-ignition for all the parts of the engine, but in particular to avoid the precipitation or the condensation of oil particles on the parais of the combustion chamber, these appearances are not cooled directly by water, but consist of an insulating jacket 13, which on the outside has a shape which is partly conical, partly cylindrical and which has

 <Desc / Clms Page number 6>

 its upper end a collar, which rests on an insulating ring 14, surrounding the cylindrical part of the jacket; this ring rests in turn on a projection formed in the bottom of the cover.

   The parts of the jacket come into contact with each other and with the walls, surrounding the bottom of the cylinder, in such a way that they leave free the interval necessary for the expansions due to the heat, and they are maintained. in place by the clamping ring 15.

   The jacket, in addition to acting as an insulator against cooling, exerts a balancing action on the downward heat release and maintains the free gap between its tapered portion nearly constant. and the bottom of the cylinare.

   As shown in the drawing, the main part 13 of the insulating jacket has an inclined protrusion 16, provided with ribs, in which is placed the electrically heated incandescent filament 17, which is used in known manner to cause combustion. , when the engines are started with medium compression.

   In some cases, the. projection 16 and hence the whole of the jacket 13 can be arranged to receive a preheating by means of a torch during the start-up, although the invention is also applicable for compressions so high that one obtains auto-ignition without prior heating.
