Description

     On a observé que l'humidité na.turelle da l'atmosphère peut suffire à fournir la glace nécessaire à l'humidification de l'air de ventilation. Suivant les présents perfectionnements l'entrée de l'air est située de façon que l'air introduit vient directement en contact avec la tuyauterie réfrigérante

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

  Device for the ventilation of refrigeration installations.

   The main patent relates to an apparatus for the ventilation of refrigeration installations; especially refrigerated wagons, in which the air intended for ventilation of the chamber (the cold is sent to the ice contained in a tank crossed by the refrigerating piping of this chamber, so that the melting water which serves to give the air the desired degree of humidity, forms only a superficial layer on the ice and tends to refreeze as soon as the air flow is slowed down or stopped.

     It has been observed that the natural humidity of the atmosphere may be sufficient to provide the ice required for humidification of the ventilation air. According to the present improvements, the air inlet is located so that the introduced air comes directly into contact with the refrigerant piping.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 before entering the cold room. The moisture in the air condensing on the piping quickly forms a crust of ice and the surface becomes more or less covered with melting water depending on the temperature and the flow rate of the air current.

   When using cold accumulators, such as brine tanks through which the refrigerant piping passes, air can be sent to these reservoirs instead of passing directly over the piping, the effect being the same. However, in this case there is an advantage in passing the air both over the exposed parts of the piping and over the walls of the cold accumulators, these being naturally much slower to cover themselves with ice. after a break in service.

   According to an embodiment of the invention, which is particularly suitable for railway wagons, the fan draws air from the cold chamber through a duct established at the top of the latter, along its longitudinal axis. tudinal, while the air delivered by the fan is blown in through side ducts on the refrigerant piping and (or) the cold accumulators located on either side of the suction duct, air inlet and outlet of the cold chamber are preferably staggered so that no short-circuit occurs, the cold air descending into the chamber while, the heated air rose towards the central duct.

   Since the same air can be used for a certain time by circulating in a closed circuit, purification devices can be interposed in the circuit or connected to it in order to purify the stale air.

   The accompanying drawing shows schematically by way of example, an apparatus of this type applied to. a refrigerated car.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

   Fig. 1 is a vertical section taken along line 1 - 1 of FIG. 3.

   Fig. 2 is a horizontal section along the broken vine II-II (Fig. 3).

   Figs. 3 and 4 are cross sections taken respectively along lines III-III and IV-IV of 1a, FIG. 1.

   In drawing 1 designated the cold room which extends over almost the entire length of the wagon and whose walls 2 and roof 3 are carefully insulated. 4 is the refrigerant pipe in which circulates a low-boiling liquid, for example liquefied ammonia, supplied by refrigeration devices not shown. Cold accumulators consist of brine reservoirs 5 through which part of the pipe 4 passes.

   The piping 4 and the tanks 5 are installed under the roof 3 in compartments 6 located between a central duct 7 established along the longitudinal axis of the wagon and two parallel ducts 8. The duct 7 is connected to the suction box. 9 of a fan 10. In the example shown, this fan is actuated by an electric motor 11 and mounted in a heat-insulated chamber 12 located at the end of the wagon opposite a. the one where the refrigeration appliance compartment is located. The fan 10 delivers the air through the duct 13 into the distribution box 14 to which the two ducts 8 are connected.

   The air discharged into the conduits 8 enters the compartments 6 through side openings 15 and after licking the surface of the piping 4 and of the tanks 5, it passes into the cold chamber 1 through openings 16 made in the bottom of the compartments 6. Openings 16

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 can be fitted with shutters, shown by way of example in the form of louvers 17, in order to regulate the passage of air from the compartments 6 to the cold chamber.

   In the bottom of the central duct 7 are also provided openings 18 which preferably alternate with the openings 16 so that no direct current is established between the conduits 8 and 7. The openings 15, 1 @ and 18 are distributed over the entire length of the cold room.

   When the refrigerators are started, the piping 4 quickly becomes covered with ice, and the reservoirs 5 also, when the temperature of the brine has been sufficiently lowered. The air supplied by the ducts 8 cools in the compartments 6 and absorbs more or less humidity at the expense of the melt water which forms on the surface of the ice. The cold air descends through the openings 16, Pt circulates in the cold chamber 1, rising as it heats up, until it is sucked in through the openings 18 of the suction duct 7.

   By adjusting the speed of rotation of the fan and possibly the position of the shutters 17, the ventilation of the cold chamber and the degree of humidity of the air can be modified at will. The possible excess of fusion water is collected in channels 19 suspended, under the pipes 4 and the tanks 5, from cross members 20 which support the pipes 7 and 8.

   Additional shutters can also be provided to control the flow rate of openings 15 and 18 and modifications can be made to the construction and arrangement of the apparatus described without departing from the scope of the invention. '
