   "PERFECTIONNEMENTS AUX PALLERS ET A LEURS APPLICA- Tions".

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

     mais elle peut aussi être appliquée avantageusement à d'autres broches ou arbres,
Dans un grand nombre d'opérations textiles, il est désirable d'employer les broches tournant à des vitesses élevées ou très élevées, Comme exemples d'opérations tex- tiles dans lesquelles des vitesses de ce genre sont désira- bles, on peut mentionner le filage le tordage ou le   doit-   blage à grande vitesse de fils ou filés composés de fibres ou filaments artificiels ou naturels par les procédés de filage à anneaux, à ailettes, le procédé de moulinage à cloche, etc.; le tordage crêpé ou le doublage de fils ou filés composés de filaments ou fibres artificiels ou na- turels, lorsqu'il est nécessaire de communiquer une torsion élevée aux fils ou filés au cours de leur doublage;

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

   Celle des ex- trémités de la douille dont la rotation doit être empêchée peut présenter une rainure de clavetage recevant une cla-   vette   ou goupille portée par le bottier; elle peut encore recevoir en section transversale une forme autre que circulaire (par exemple une forme carrée) pour entrer en prise avec une creusure de forme correspondante du bottier;

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

      ou bien elle peut être maintenue de quelque autre manière.

   "IMPROVEMENTS TO PALLERS AND THEIR APPLICATIONS".

   This invention relates to bearings and devices for mounting pins or shafts and to their applications, one of its aims being to establish an improved bearing whose bore diameter can be adjusted. Another object of the invention is to establish a bearing which is flexible and tends to damp the lateral and axial vibrations of the spindle or shaft,
The invention is particularly applicable to textile spindles used in spinning, twisting, doubling, winding operations and similar textural operations carried out on fibers, filaments, yarns.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 or natural or artificial yarns, especially when these spindles are desired at high or very high speeds,

     but it can also be applied advantageously to other pins or shafts,
In a large number of textile operations, it is desirable to employ the spindles rotating at high or very high speeds. As examples of textile operations in which such speeds are desirable, there may be mentioned: spinning the high speed twisting or winding of threads or yarns composed of artificial or natural fibers or filaments by ring spinning, wing spinning processes, bell-milling process, etc .; the creped twisting or the lining of threads or yarns composed of artificial or natural filaments or fibers, when it is necessary to impart a high twist to the threads or yarns during their lining;

   the milling of artificial silk in spin boxes or other devices as it is manufactured by wet or coagulation spinning processes; the winding or milling of threads or yarns composed of artificial filaments of cellulose acetate or other cellulose derivatives as the filaments are formed by dry or evaporative spinning processes, such as for example milling of fila or yarn made from such dry-spun filaments in centrifugal bundles, or with the aid of fin, ring, etc. devices as they are produced, and in particular in bell milling (i.e. twisting and winding using a bell device)

   of threads or yarns of the same kind as the filaments are formed by dry or evaporative spinning processes.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

   The invention is especially intended for its application to spindles or shafts which have to rotate at very high speeds such as those mentioned above, but it is understood that it can be applied to spindles or shafts whatever the speed at which these organs must turn.

   A bearing established according to the invention comprises a tubular bush or bush, the ends of which are interconnected by a central or intermediate part having a helical shape, the bearing or bearing surface presented to the spindle or shaft preferably being situated at the side. inside the length of the helical part of the sleeve. The bearing is adjusted by exerting a twist on the sleeve and; preferably, one end of the sleeve is arranged so that it cannot rotate while the other end of this sleeve is provided with means for rotating it.

   For example, this second end can be provided with flats intended to receive a tightening key, or it can be drilled with one or more holes intended to receive an operating bar, and this end can be either smooth or threaded to screw into a 'boot maker. This end is preferably provided with a locking device enabling it to be kept in a regulated position, and this device may comprise one or more locking nuts; a pin passing through a hole in the housing and engaging in a hole in the socket; a snap-fit device; or other suitable device.

   That of the ends of the sleeve, the rotation of which must be prevented, may have a keyway receiving a key or pin carried by the casing; it can also receive in cross section a shape other than circular (for example a square shape) to engage with a corresponding shaped recess of the casing;

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

      or it can be maintained in some other way.

  It will be noted that the diameter of the bore or will increase or decrease depending on the direction of rotation of one of the ends of the sleeve with respect to the other. The bush is preferably made of an elastic material such as phosphor bronze or steel, and its ends can be made integrally with the propeller, the latter being cut from the bush, for example on the lathe. ; or said ends can be secured to the helix once established. For example, it would be possible to helically wind a section of material of suitable cross section and then to weld or otherwise join to this section tubular elements constituting the ends. The bush can be case hardened, quenched or otherwise hardened.

   In a suitable embodiment, one of the ends of the sleeve is threaded, while the other has a keyway receiving a key carried by a housing, so that when one of the ends of the sleeve is screwed in. the case, the propeller is subjected to a torsion, which increases or decreases 1 + the bore of the propeller, depending on the direction of rotation of the threaded end. A locking device allows the socket to be fixed in its adjusted position.

   The casing preferably has a lubricant cavity surrounding the propeller, and means may be provided to determine circulation of the lubricant through. through the socket; although sufficient space can be left to accommodate a supply of lubricant which only needs to be renewed at certain intervals.

   It is obvious that the invention can be applied to textile or other pins of any kind, whether these pins are solid or hollow. In the case of textile pins or the like, these pins can. or not, to receive a back-and-forth movement, a movement of

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

 bobbin winding or any other such movement as required. The invention includes all the applications of this kind,
The appended drawing represents an embodiment of the invention, but it is understood that it is intended only to make the invention understood and that it does not limit it in any way.

   In this drawing the invention is assumed to be applied to the bearing of a hollow spindle through which can pass an up-and-down movement bar carrying a device, bell milling or other device which cooperates with the spindle. to grind a thread on a spool or other support mounted on the spindle,
In the attached drawing:
Figure 1 is a partial sectional elevation of a spindle mounting and support device according to the invention.

   Figure 2 is a vertical section of the sleeve or necks. sinet.

   Figure 3 is a plan taken on 3- "(Figure 1) with the cover of the mounting device removed.

   1, represents the bush, with the bearing, which is provided with widened ends 2, 3 the end 2 being threaded to be screwed in an internal thread 4 of a housing 5, while the end 3 slides gently in the The bore of said casing, Between the two ends, the sleeve 1 takes the form of a coil spring 6, the internal diameter of which is approximately the same as that of the spindle 7. The interior of the sleeve is widened at the ends 2 , 3 as shown at 8, 9, aorta that the bearing surface supporting the pin is located entirely inside the spring 6.

   A keyway 10 is made in the end 3 to receive a locking screw 11 whose role

 <Desc / Clms Page number 6>

 is to prevent the rotational movement of this end of the socket; and flats 12 are formed on the threaded end 2 to allow torsion to be exerted on the sleeve. Depending on the direction of the applied torsion, the diameter of the spring 1 is increased or decreased and the bush can then be locked using a lock nut 13.
