 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 7>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 8>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 9>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 10>

Ceci permet

 <Desc/Clms Page number 11>

  Automatic counter for coal and other granular materials.

     The present invention relates to an automatic counter for coal and other granular materials. established a modification of the Roberval balance; and the principle of which will be well understood from the short description which will appear with reference to FIGS. 1 to 3 of the accompanying drawing.

   We know that the Roberval balance (fig. 1) comprises a parallelogram formed by four rigid bars articulated in ABCD, the levers AB and CD being able to oscillate around two fixed horizontal axes 0 and O 'located respectively. ment in the middle of AB and CD.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

   The automatic counter which is the subject of this invention is based on the following modifications made to this type of balance (fig. 2 and 2a),
The AC lever and the H 'tray as well as the CO' part of the CD lever are removed.

   A counterweight P is attached to the end A of the lever AB.

   The 0 'axis is offset to the right on the D'D line (fig. 2) or, according to a variant, on the extension
 EMI2.1
 of line 0 'D (fig.2a).

   Two stops U and U 'limit the movements of the articulated assembly.

   Under these conditions, a load Q of a weight greater than that of the counterweight P tends to cause the balance thus modified to assume the positions represented by Figures 3 or 3a, the least load sufficient in these positions to balance the weight P .

   That said, the counter is made as follows:
On a frame are mounted on the one hand, an articulated beam carrying at one end a bucket of capacity corresponding to the maximum load provided and at the other end an adjustable counterweight and on the other hand the second beam of the Roberval scale. , reduced from the above to a lever articulated to the frame outside the vertical of the articulation point of the upper beam. This frame also supports a hopper which is placed above the bucket and into which the materials supplied by any feed system, bucket chain, conveyor belt, etc. are discharged.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

   When the bucket is loaded to the value fixed by the adjustment of the counterweight, the beam tilts according to what has been said above and the bucket fully empties the beam only returning to its equilibrium position when said bucket is empty, because the slightest load remaining on the skip in the tilted position is sufficient to balance the action of the counterweight, as a result of the offset of the joints of the flail.

   An automatic shock absorber system, triggered when the beam is tilted, with a certain delay so as not to influence the weighing, allows said beam to return gradually to its horizontal position.

   In addition, a clutch mechanism combined with the flail automatically interrupts the movement of the feed system when the flail is tilted in order to avoid losses of the material to be loaded, this clutch mechanism being associated with a closing system automatic hopper when tilting the flail, to ensure weighing precision.

   Figures 4 to 19 of the accompanying drawing, given by way of example, show an embodiment of the counter according to the invention. In this example, the automatic counter of / is combined with a bucket elevator and the frame / this eleva - tor serves as a support for the various counter components.

   FIG. 4 is a side elevational view of this assembly, the beam being in its equilibrium position.

   Figure 5 is a view of the same kind, but after the tilting of the beam.
Figure 6 is a plan view.

   Figures 15 and 16 show the clutch mechanism in its two extreme operating positions.

   Figures 17 and 18 show in elevation the closing system of the hopper.

   Figure 19 shows a detail.

   The counter shown in the drawing is combined with an elevator whose buckets drop onto the inclined plane 5 of a hopper open at 6 above a loading bucket 8. This bucket is articulated at B at the end of a beam 7 consisting of a frame made of angle irons and oscillating around an axis 0 fixed on the frame 1. This beam carries at its other end a counterweight P adjustable using mobile weights 9. The bucket 8 is hinged on the other hand in D following what has been said previously with reference to Figures 1 to 5, on a bar 10 hinged at 0 'on an arm 11 fixed to the frame 1. U' denotes an elastic stop limiting the rocker- ment of the flail as shown in figure 5.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

   We also find in these two figures in B, D.O.C ', U'.P, all the elements which have been described with reference to Figures 1 to 3a,
The operation of the device is easily understood:
The coal brought by the elevator 2 pours into the bucket 8, falling on the inclined plane 5. When the load of the bucket 8 slightly exceeds the counterweight P set to the desired value by moving the weights 9, the ', flail tilts and the bucket 8 takes the position shown in Figure 5,
In this position a flap 8a articulated on the bucket at its upper side and held closed by its weight in the balanced position of the flail, opens and the bucket is unloaded. When it is completely empty, the beam returns to its equilibrium position under the action of the counterweight P.

   To count the loadings carried out, a counter or other suitable apparatus 65 can be added to the apparatus, actuated by a connecting rod 66 at each tilting of the beam, this tilting occurring when the skip is filled at a rate determined by the counterweight.

   It is useful to insist on the role of the crutch 10a which is as follows:
It will be assumed, for example, that the automatic loader must load a capacity such as a hopper, the emptying of which is done from the bottom; this emptying takes place continuously at a rate slower than that of filling or else it takes place intermittently at any rate.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 6>

   The loader, by successive weighings, pours into the hopper. As a result of the advance that the feed ends up taking on the drain, the level of the coal rises in the hopper and reaches a height such that in a final tilting, the crutch is stuck in the heap and is found partly covered by the coal dumped by the dumpster. The entire loader will then remain in the position of FIG. 5 and will remain there as long as the stand is not clearly released following the lowering of the level in the hopper. All power has ceased, since by tilting the charger has disengaged and this power supply will not reestablish itself until the charger has been able to resume its horizontal position shown in figure 4.

   It follows that this charger can operate continuously by automatically feeding the hopper or other capacity to be charged as required. This is particularly interesting in the application of the charger to the supply of a household or a household. oven.

   To prevent the flail from returning to its abrupt position, a special shock absorber system 14 is provided, comprising a roller 12 mounted at the end of sliding rods 13 and on which the end of the flail 7 abuts.

  This shock absorber must meet the condition of not triggering until a certain time after the tilting of the beam so as not to exert any force on it in its equilibrium position, and therefore not to influence the weighing. The shock absorber may for this purpose be constituted as shown in FIGS. 7 to 11. This shock absorber comprises a tubular body 14 filled at its lower part 25 with oil or other viscous liquid, and in which is moves, with a certain clearance, a piston 24 carried by

 <Desc / Clms Page number 7>

 a rod 21 joined by means of a cross member 20 to the sliding rods 13, These rods carry the roller 12 at their upper ends.

   The rod 21 has a shoulder 22 forming a stop for a spring 23 which is compressed when the damper is in the position of Figures 7 to 9.

  The rods 13 sliding in two guide holes made on the lower flange 25 of the body 14 each carry two stops 15 and 16 limiting up and down the movement of said rods and consequently also that of the rod 21. At the end of the stroke lower, the stops 16 come into contact with the sleeves 17 sliding against the springs 18 in perforations made in the flange 19 of the tubular body 14. As in the equilibrium position of the beam, the shock absorber is at the end of its travel. consequently the spring 23 is compressed, it is necessary to lock the rod 21 and the head 12 so that the damper does not exert any action on the beam, an action which would be, as can be understood, detrimental to the accuracy of the weighing.

   For this purpose, a special latching mechanism is provided which consists of a lever 28 articulated at 27 in a yoke 26 fixed on the flange 25 of the tubular body 14.

  The lever 28 carries at 28a at one end a counterweight which tends to bring it into a horizontal position and at its other end a sector lever 29 / which is mounted a roller 30.

   A notch 31 with an inclined lower face is made in the cross member 20 which connects the rods 13 and forms a housing for the roller 30 which, by being placed in this notch, locks the damper.

   A T-rod 31 carried by the beam 7 engages in a hole in the lever 28, a certain distance being left in the position of equilibrium of the beam between the horizontal branch of the T and the lever 28, when the flail-

 le, it drives the rod 31 in the direction of the arrow F2 and when after a certain time, the horizontal bar of the T reaches the lever 28, it causes this lever to switch around the axis 27 in the direction of arrow F3 by disengaging the roller 30 from its housing 31 and at the same time releasing the spring 23 which relaxes by lifting the head 12 of the shock absorber.

   The automatic clutch system making it possible to stop the movement of the elevator 2 during the tilting of the flail is shown in detail in Figures 12 to 16.

  The rotation of the axis of the deflection pulleys 3 of the elevator is controlled by pulleys 32 on which passes a belt 33 connected to a motor. There are two pulleys 32, one of which 32a is fixed and the other 32b is insane. The belt 33 passes through a fork 34 pivoting at 35 in a yoke 36 fixed to the loader frame, and integral with the lever 37 articulated at 38 to a rod 39. This rod is subjected at one of its ends to the action. of a tension spring 40 fixed at 41 on the frame and is articulated at its other end at 42 to a V-shaped part 43 capable of pivoting at 44 on an arm 45 usually secured to the frame 1. The other branch of the V-shaped part, 43, carries a roller 43a which rests when the beam is in a position of equilibrium against a part 46, fixed to the beam 7.

   This part 46 ends with a ramp 47 forming an obtuse angle with it, the som of which can be seen. puts in 48 and the roller 43a rests against the part 46 a little below this top 48. On the part 46 is mounted a yoke 48a on which is pivoted at 49 a double hook 50 that a torsion spring 51 tightens to be kept in the position shown in figure 12
The operation of this clutch system is as follows:

 <Desc / Clms Page number 9>

When the flail is in equilibrium, the organs are in the position shown in figures 12, 13 and 15. When the flail tilts so as to assume the position shown in figure 16, the roller 43a of part 43 escapes. part 46 while driving on ramp 47.

   The rod 39 then obeys the action of the spring 40 and causes the fork 34 to tilt in the direction of the arrow F4 shown in figure 13, thus bringing the belt 33, from the fixed pulley 32a to the idler pulley 32b, and the The elevator is thus disengaged. When the flail returns to its equilibrium position by pivoting in the direction of arrow F5 in FIG. 16, the roller 43a is driven by the spout 50a of the hook 50 and is returned by this hook, which pivots in the direction of the arrow F6 around axis 49, on part 46, so as to return to its initial position in which it is blocked a little below the vertex 48 of the obtuse angle.

   In the consecutive pivoting of the part 43 around the axis 44, the rod 39 has been pulled downwards by tensioning the spring 40 and the fork has returned the belt 33 from the idler pulley 32b to the fixed pulley 32a in thus engaging the elevator again.

   It should be noted that the force due to the tension of the spring 40 during loading is transmitted to the beam 7 by means of the rod 39 and the part 46.

   Thanks to the arrangement adopted this force has no influence on the weighing because during the loading the pressure of the roller 43 on the cam 46 is exerted in a direction AB (fig. 12) which passes through the main axis 0 .

   In addition, the profile of the cam 46 at its point of contact with the roller 43 is perpendicular to this direction.

   At the same time as this clutch mechanism acts a special closing system of the hopper 5, shown in figures 17 and 18. This closing system essentially consists of a shutter 6a capable of closing the lower opening. of the hopper, sufficiently heavy in itself and mounted on an axle suitably placed to balance the weight of the coal which may be contained in said hopper. This valet 6a is fixed on one side of the frame to a lever 56 articulated at 57 on the loader head and connected by springs 58 to a lever 59 pivoting at 60.

   This lever 59 carries at its other end a roller 61 capable of coming into contact with a control cam 62 carried by the beam 7. The operation of this closure system is sufficiently apparent from FIGS. 17 and 18 which represent it in its two extreme positions, without it being useful to give other explanations.

   However, it should be noted that the cam 62 must have a profile such as in the balanced position of the beam. the reaction exerted by the roller 61 on the cam passing., by the axis 0, so as not to influence the weighing.

   The invention finally comprises the special shape of the loading hopper shown in section in FIG. 19. Instead of being open directly at its lower part, this hopper is open only laterally at 6 and has a horizontal bottom 63. The bottom 63 constantly retains a certain quantity of coal at 64, on which rolls the coal falling from the buckets which does not thus meet a metallic surface.

 to avoid the unpleasant noise generally produced in known elevators when the coal falls against metal walls,
It goes without saying that modifications of detail could be made to the embodiment which has just been described without thereby departing from the scope of the present invention.

   In the drawing, it has been assumed that the feeder feed system was a cup elevator, but it is understood that it could be quite different.

   The damper, the clutch and the hopper closure system could receive any other suitable embodiments known in themselves or not.
