<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>

This is why, for example, a cylinder l made of metal or carbon is used, which is introduced into a tube k, of a diameter. slightly higher than that of the cylinder, and that one provides thin blades 1 to form the aforesaid baffles. A superheater thus established is placed next to each gi-

amount of additional air which varies according to the vacuum created by the engine.
The various constituent elements of the carburettor having thus been established, they are brought together to constitute a carburetor which is placed, at least, with regard to the jets, the superheaters, the diffuser and possibly the pipe for the intake. of air, in a chamber of. steams, for example, of water vapor, with a view to making the heavy fuel sufficiently fluid so that the combustible or explosive mixture obtained is heated and made very homogeneous.
As regards the vapor from said chamber, it is obtained by heating a relatively small quantity, for example a few cm3 of water, in a tube t, rigid or flexible, established in the exhaust pipe. By suitably choosing the material of which the walls of the closed vessel containing these vapors are made, this material having a relatively high coefficient of conductivity, e, t, by giving said walls a sufficiently large extent. , so that the pressure and therefore the temperature in said closed capacity remain substantially constant despite the temperature of the heat source being essentially variable and can even reach very high degrees.
This result is obtained by the continual exchange of calories between the hot walls and the cold environment, which gives rise to more or less hot condensations inside said chamber. The product of this condensation flows freely towards the tube t and immediately evaporates at. contact of its walls. to allow rapid vaporization of said liquid, especially at the time of cold starting, an energetic heat source is used, for example a storage battery, or if the engine is stationary, at the same time. mains electricity, and to an electrical resistance formed
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
through.
a metal wire which is established in said tube. the addition of this heat can be suppressed as soon as the heat supplied by the exhaust gases is sufficient to maintain the vapor at a sufficient temperature.
The electrical source can also be switched off automatically, in this case the metal wire is replaced by a liquid allowing the use of the charcoals as electrical terminals, this liquid being moreover the one which plays the role of 'a producer of steam like the water discussed above.
These coals are established so that they are separated by a very small gap filled with said liquid, for example by giving one of them the shape of a t1 ring and the other that of a rod t2 and arranging them coaxially to each other.
Said liquid vaporizes instantly upon passing. current which is automatically cut off when the liquid is completely vaporized.
As a result, a carburettor heated by steam at a substantially constant temperature and producing a homogeneous mixture and sufficiently hot so that its ignition and combustion in the engine cylinder can take place under the most favorable conditions is obtained. vorable.
Such a carburetor operates as night: for cold starting, the electric current is passed through a resistor or through the liquid inside the tube t, this ensures the formation of the vapors which must fill the chamber. steam 8, which current is then cut in the first case voluntarily and in the second case automatically to be replaced by the exhaust gases.
The piston g1 is given the positions for which the necessary fuels are sent to the jets. The air sucked through the pipe h enters
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
1 2 the space between the tube e1 oune2 and the cylindrical sheath h3 or h4 and heats the layer of. fuel that is inside the nozzle. Then it mixes with the fuel, when it leaves the nozzle, and the two pass together through the holes f, to engage in the superheater. During the passage through the latter, the mixture of air and fuel undergoes a notable increase in temperature as well as vigorous stirring.
On leaving the superheater, the mixture, if its fuel is heavy, enters through the opening nl into the tube n of the diffuser and from there through them. holes n1 in the intervals of the ramps Said ramps force the mixture to perform a centrifugal movement by which the still solid parts of the fuel are thrown against the heated wall of the diffuser to bring it back there.
In the case of strong suction, the air entering through the valve p. at a high speed, participates in this centrifugal movement and heats up by licking the internal side wall of the suction line. In the case. of a weak suction air, penetrating through. the valve at a low speed, seeks the shortest path and licks the tube n in contact with which it heats up. If the fuel is light, additional vaporization is not necessary. The mixture enters the suction line directly through the opening n which is right next to the throttle r.
In the foregoing, it has been admitted that the nozzle for the heavy fuel as well as that for the light fuel are both established in an enclosure heated by steam, it is of course understood that one could be satisfied, without departing from the scope of the invention, to have only the nozzle for heavy fuel in such an enclosure, the nozzle, or even the carburetor for gasoline operation being established. in any suitable manner, for example in the usual manner
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
and being disposed at a point deemed most suitable for the operation of the engine.
As it goes without saying, and retorts it emerges already donors. of the foregoing, the invention is in no way limited to that of its modes of application, nor to those of the embodiments of its various parts which have more especially been indicated above; on the contrary, it embraces all the variants.
