<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Company for the Construction and Exploitation of Colonial Equipment with Lean Gas "Matéco" - Société Anonyme,
15, rue de la Loi - Brussels,
The invention relates to the extraction of gases and in particular to the purification of gases intended for supplying engines mounted on motor vehicles.
It relates especially to the apparatuses used for this purification, and, among these, to the purifiers which function by passing gases through a liquid mass.
Its main purpose is to arrange these devices so that they respond better to the conditions of use than those proposed so far.
In certain known devices, purification is obtained by passing the gases through a liquid mass and through) one or more filter layers oontained in a container interoalé in the supply pipe of the engine, which unless resorting to to layouts
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Special, and relatively complex. has certain drawbacks in operation, among others those resulting from variations in the inclination of the device when the vehicle is moving.
According to the invention, a scrubber-purifier free from the drawbacks mentioned is constituted in a simple manner by making it comprise a chamber containing a liquid mass into which a pipe of particular shape is made open, such, and also disposed at a location such as the chamber, that the passage of the gases to be purified in the purifying liquid mass can always be carried out in a substantially similar manner whatever the inclination taken by the apparatus.
It is further made to include a filtration chamber in communication with said purification chamber, this filtration chamber accommodating a filter element made of light bodies, and being organized so that the filter element is easily removable, in view for example of its cleaning.
And in order also to remedy the drawbacks which result for the operation of the supplied motor - - in particular during "resumptions" of this motor - - differences in resistance encountered on the one hand by the az and on the other hand by the air of the feed mixture to reach the inlet orifice, this air is also passed through the liquid mass and the filtration chamber of the scrubber, which very substantially balances the resistances while offering the advantage of purification of the feed.
And so that we can fully understand how this washing machine can be produced, a preferred embodiment will be described below in more detail, shown in the accompanying drawing in which @
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Fig.1 is a longitudinal section of a washing apparatus according to the invention, Fig.2 is a view, in cross section along A B of Figure I, of this apparatus,
As has been said, and as it is moreover shown, the apparatus comprises a cylindrical casing I, the lower part of which is occupied by a liquid purification mass 2,
above which there is a sheet or other perforated element 5 intended to break the agitation of the liquid 2 during the movements of the vehicle on which the apparatus is mounted.
In the chamber I is made to penetrate, approximately to mid-length, a 'pipe 4, provided with an appendix
5 ending in a fan 6, (Fig2), the plane of the latter being perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the device.
The anterior, posterior and lower faces of the element 6 are pierced with openings 7 providing passage for the gases to be purified, the distribution of the openings being such that the passage of the ga can always be effected in a substantially similar manner whatever the inclination taken by the washing machine in the plane of the fan 6.
The middle position of the appendix 5 ensures this same substantially equal distribution for the longitudinal inclinations, so that a practically constant resistance to the passage of the gases is finally obtained,
On the casing I, and partially penetrating into the latter, is mounted another cylindrical casing 8 -containing the filter element 9 and the two chambers I and 8 are made to communicate through openings 10 arranged as shown in FIG. 2, laterally towards the ends of the common wall 11.
The filter element is shaped as a hollow cylinder, in which light bodies 12 are placed, and the
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
departure 13 of the purified gases is mounted in the axis of the element.
In this way, whatever the position of the device, the gases leaving the purifying liquid will have to pass through the same thickness of filtering bodies to reach the pipe 13.
And preferably, on the one hand, the duct 13 is suitably fixed to the end wall of the casing 8 and, on the other hand, the filter element is suitably fixed to a cover 14 attached, removably, to the other end wall of said envelope,, The so that the canali-

Station I3 will serve as a guide and support for the filtering detent, the latter being easily removable, enicue, par- e.Ji..6lul'le cleaning.
EMI4.2
At the same time, in order to substantially equalize leb r "-, iistances to which the gases and the air of ii.1-mixture will be subjected to reach the inlet of the uuu - ur, there is still a pipe 140 with air inlet, uelte pipe submerging uans 1'3 ìas3, b liquid, by an appendix
15,: in such a way that the mixture between the gases and the air can only be achieved after they have both passed through the liquid. In the arrangement the appendages 5,6 and 15 are contiguous but separated by a solid partition for the purpose indicated. After passing through the liquid,

the gases and the air cross by themselves, 61,94eant, llélé, aent filtering defined more gaut to meet-'e with the engine by 15 line 13.
If it is more completely necessary to equalize the differences - resistance -1.6d, aG and air - - in particular to compensate for those encountered by the gases in their passage through the devices preceding the scrubber -, we may provide at the inlet of pipe 14 a valve @
