Description

  Commande automatique d'embrayage.

 <EMI ID=6.1>

 <EMI ID=7.1>

 <EMI ID=8.1>

 <EMI ID=9.1>

 <EMI ID=11.1>

 <EMI ID=12.1>

 <EMI ID=13.1>

 <EMI ID=14.1>

  Automatic clutch control.

The present invention relates to a device

automatic for controlling automobile clutches

in which engine vacuum is used to actuate the clutch.

It has already been proposed for this purpose to have a pneumatically actuated servomotor, directly or indirectly connected to the clutch pedal and alternately placed

in communication, by means of a valve, with the pipe

engine intake and with atmosphere. This valve is rigidly connected to. the accelerator rod and therefore participates in each movement of the accelerator pedal. The servo motor consists of a reciprocating piston cylinder of conventional construction. This type of servo motor requires a long piston stroke to operate the clutch pedal. In addition, it is necessary to use a straight guide to keep the piston and its rod exactly in line.

As a result of these drawbacks, the known types

automatic clutch controls have not yielded favorable results. These controls took up too much space and the sensitivity of the valve timing was quite insufficient. In fact, in known automatic devices, outside air could enter through the valve into the fuel intake line, which frequently caused the engine to stop.

The object of the present invention is to construct automatic clutch controls in such a way that while being inexpensive and compact, they can be fitted to new or old cars of all kinds. and of all sizes, without making the other parts less accessible.

This object is achieved on the one hand by a particularly simple and judicious construction of the control of the booster and on the other hand by the use of a rotating assembly as a servomotor.

The drawing schematically represents some embodiments of the invention.

Fig. 1 is an arrangement in which the distribution valve of the servomotor is operated by the accelerator pedal.

IV

Fig. 2 is a variant with control of the distribution by special pedal. Fig. 3 is an embodiment according to FIG. 2 with another arrangement of the foot control. Fig. 4 is an embodiment, in which the distribution member is actuated by the gear change lever. Fig. 5 is an arrangement according to Fig. 1 in <EMI ID = 1.1>

servomotor disengaging.

Fig. 6 is a judicious arrangement of the pedal when the device is constructed according to FIG. 5. Fig. 7 shows a device in which the distribution member is actuated by an electromagnet, controlled by a switch mounted on the accelerator pedal. <EMI ID = 2.1>

the switch is mounted on the gearshift lever.

Fig. 9 is an arrangement in which the accelerator pedal as well as the gearshift lever are provided with switches for the control electromagnets of the distribution member.

In the embodiment according to FIG. 1, the accelerator pedal 1 is connected to the throttle moderator

6 from the fuel intake pipe 7 to the carburetor 8, through rods 2, 3, 4, 5. The throttle can be bypassed by a relatively narrow bypass 9, so that even when throttle 6 is closed a small amount of fuel can be sent to the engine (not shown) through the carburetor 8, this amount being measured in such a way that the engine can start, but is not able to drive the car.

The fuel line 7 is located immediately behind the butterfly 6 in communication with the distribution box 11 via the elastic line 10. In this boot are arranged two ball valves.

 <EMI ID = 3.1>

elastic, are fixed to the box 11. The valve 12 is connected to a transverse arm 16 by a tension spring 15 which tends to keep it continuously in the re- position.

 <EMI ID = 4.1>

are therefore always driven together by the action of the spring 15 or the traction due to the movement of the accelerator pedal 1 and transmitted by the cable 17. The latter is fixed to the arm 18 articulated at a fixed point, which participates in the movement of the accelerator pedal 1 through the spring 19 and the perforated sphere 20. The movement of the arm 18 is limited by the stop 21.

As shown in the drawing, the rod 2 of the throttle linkage is split. The two sections are guided in a sleeve 22 which can be rigidly connected to one of them.

On the distribution boot 11, between the seats

 <EMI ID = 5.1>

opens into the vacuum chamber 24 of the casing 25. The chamber 24 is separated from the chamber 26 by a vane piston 27 which is provided with a leather lining 28 to ensure a good seal. Room 26 is therefore

 <EMI ID = 6.1>

free communication with the atmosphere.

The vane piston 27 can oscillate around the shaft 29, which carries on the outside of the casing 25 a grooved pulley 30. On this is fixed a cable or a cable.

 <EMI ID = 7.1>

as well as the accelerator pedal 1 are maintained in the upright position shown by the compression springs 33 and 34.

The operation of the automatic clutch device is broadly as follows:

When the engine is started, only a small quantity of fuel is sent to the cylinders through the narrow bypass 9, the moderator throttle 6 being closed.

A vacuum then occurs which propagates through line 10 into distribution boot 11 and thence through line 23 into chamber 24. As a result, vane 27 pivots clockwise. Pulley

groove 30 is driven in this movement, so that the cable 31 winds up and the clutch pedal is drawn downward despite the action of the spring 33. The clutch is thus disengaged.

If under these conditions, the accelerator pedal 1 is lowered, the two sections of the rod 2 immediately touch each other and the set of rods 3, 4, 5 opens the moderator 6. At the same time, the spring 19 drives the arm 18 by means of the sphere 20 capable of sliding on the

 <EMI ID = 8.1>

are shifted to the right. When the valve 12 rests in its seat, the movement of the arm 18 is stopped by the

 <EMI ID = 9.1>

butterfly begins to open, valve 12 closes and valve 13 opens. The latter thus allows atmospheric air to enter the vacuum chamber 24,

so that the clutch pedal 32 is returned from bottom to top by the spring 33 and the clutch is engaged.

 <EMI ID = 10.1> As soon as the accelerator pedal 1 is released, the throttle closes under the action of the return spring 35 and a vacuum again occurs in the engine, which causes the clutch to be released in the same way described.

In the embodiment according to FIG. 2 the

 <EMI ID = 11.1>

The control pedal 36 and the accelerator pedal 1 are mounted close to each other on a shaft 37 around which they can pivot, so that the driver's foot which actuates the control pedal 36 can afterwards having traveled a determined route act simultaneously on

 <EMI ID = 12.1>

cannot be driven over the entire travel of the control pedal 36, the cable 17 is provided with a spring 38 which absorbs the excess travel of the control pedal 36.

The embodiment according to FIG. 3 is identical in broad outline to that of FIG. 2, from which it differs only by the arrangement of the control pedal

 <EMI ID = 13.1>

see pivoting on the accelerator pedal 1 in such a way that the control pedal can exceed the accelerator pedal by a certain amount, so that before actuating the latter, the control pedal must first have been pushed by a determined stroke equal to the stroke of valves 12, 13.

In the embodiment according to FIG. 4, the cable 17, consisting of a Bowden cable, is connected to the gearshift lever 39 and ends at the end of the lever by a push-button 40. The latter is pushed from bottom to top by a compression spring 41. This is more powerful than the spring 15 of the distribution boot 11, so that normally the valve 12 is closed and the valve 13 open. When actuating the gearshift lever 39, the button 40 is pressed down so as to suppress the action of the spring 41. The spring 15 then opens the valve 12 and closes the valve 13, so that a vacuum occurs in the chamber 24 of the servomotor 25 and the clutch pedal

32 is attracted-.

The embodiment according to FIG. 5 is little

nearly the same as that of FIG. 1, except that it includes

an additional pedal 42, the lever arm 43 of which is connected to the stopper plate 45 by a cable 44. The cable 17 which is attached to the valves passes through an opening in the arm 18 and is also attached to the plate 45. The valve 12 can therefore, in order to trigger the automatic control, be closed as well by the operation of the accelerator pedal 1

than by that of pedal 42.

In automobiles, the accelerator pedal is usually located very close to the brake pedal. It is advantageous to place the pedal 42, as shown in Fig. 6, in the middle in front of the accelerator pedal 1 and the brake pedal 46, so that the driver of the automobile can actuate with the help of '' a single foot simultaneously the accelerator pedal 1 and the release pedal 42 or

the brake pedal 46 and this release pedal 42.

In the embodiment according to Figs. 7 to 9, the mechanical control of the distribution valves 12, 13 is replaced by an electrical control.

As shown in Fig. 7, the winding 47 of the solenoid 48 is connected by the conductor 49 behind the main switch 50 to the incoming cable 51 of

 <EMI ID = 14.1>

53. From the winding 47 a conductor 54 is connected by means of a switch 55 to a contact 56 fixed to the accelerator pedal 1 and applied, in the position shown, to the fixed contadt 57 connected to ground. .

The embodiment shown in FIG. 8 differs from that of FIG. 7 only by the arrangement of the conductor for the control current and the arrangement of the switching device. The conductor 54 is connected here on the one hand through a conductor 58 to the contact 59 and on the other hand, through a conductor
60 at contact 61. Contact 59 can pivot around the top of gearshift lever 39 opposite a fixed contact 62 connected to ground. The contact 61 is fixed to the pedal 63 and when the latter is lowered, it is placed on the fixed contact 64 which is connected to ground.

In the embodiment according to FIG. 9, the conductor 54 is connected on the one hand by the conductor 58 to the contact 59 and on the other hand by the conductor 65, the switch
66 and the conductor 67 at the contact 56, which cooperates with the fixed contact 57 as in FIG. 7.

The operation of the devices according to Figs. 7 to 9 is done as follows:

In the position occupied by the valves in the drawings, the chamber 24 of the casing 25 communicates with the atmosphere, so that the same pressure prevails in the chambers 24 and 26 and the clutch pedal 32 is maintained by a spring 33 in the clutch position. On the other hand, when the valve 13 closes and the valve
12 opens, the chamber 24 is under the influence of the vacuum of the engine transmitted by the pipe 10, so that the pallet 27 pivots to the right, driving the cable or the chain 31 and the pedal. clutch 32 in the disengaged position. The valves are brought into this latter position by the electromagnets 48 due to the displacement of the armature 68 in the direction of the arrow 69.

In Fig. 7, closing the switches 50 and 55 short-circuits the current flowing through the magnet coil 47 as long as the accelerator pedal 1 is not actuated. As a result, when the engine is started, it is disengaged. If the accelerator pedal is actuated, the contacts 56 and 57 separate, that is to say the current flowing through the coil 47 is interrupted, so that the motor is engaged again. To prevent unnecessary current consumption when the motor is idling for a long time, switch 55 has been provided which

at the same time also allows normal control of the clutch pedal and the accelerator pedal.

In Fig. 8, the circuit of the electromagnet coil can be closed by contact 59 or by contact

61. The contact 59 is arranged in such a way that when you change gear, it closes via the gearshift lever 39. In other words: when you change gear, the engine is disengaged. . The contact 61 arranged on the pedal 63 makes it possible to disengage the clutch while driving without changing gears.

After the above, the operation of the device according to FIG. 9 understands itself. The circuit of the coil 47 is closed by the contacts 56, 57 during the idling of the motor. When the accelerator pedal 1 is actuated, the circuit opens so that the clutch is engaged. If it is necessary to change gears during

operation, without interrupting the flow of gas, the coil circuit 47 is closed imperatively by the contact 59

and the disengagement occurs.

Many modifications concerning the arrangement of the switches can obviously be made.

without departing from the scope of the invention.
