<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Fig. 1 est 'une coupe longitudinale verticale faite à travers une partie d'une paroi de chaudière et représente, monté dans cette paroi, l'appareil de nettoyage perfectionné des tubes de chaudière,- une partie du tube étant en coupe; fig. 2 est une coupe axiale longitudinale verticale à tra- vers le.dispositif de commande et l'extrémité du tube de soufflage y associée; fig, 3 est une coupe transversale ver- ticale suivant 3-3 (fig, 2);
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

IIPERFECTI01 {!: {81.1il1TS TO APPLIANCES TO CLEAN BOILERS "
The present invention relates to improvements made to the apparatus for cleaning boilers and relates more particularly to the control device used to rotate the blowing tube of the apparatus.
Its main purpose is to intimately associate the distributor for the inlet of steam or other cleaning fluid with the blowing tube so that a single movement is sufficient to open the distributor and rotate the tube so as to direct the blast tube. cleaning fluid to the boiler tubes which need to be cleaned. Until now, it was usual to provide for this purpose a valve or equivalent shutter independent of the blowing tube and
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
mechanically connected to this tube in such a way that, at the beginning of the cleaning, the valve was opened first, then the tube was rotated by means of gears and cams or similar mechanical devices.
One of the objects of this invention is to simplify the construction of the control device by providing a vapor-tight housing for the 1 '. outer end of the tube and by leaving openings in this casing and the tube which can be brought into coincidence by an initial rotation of the casing, as well as by providing the casing and the tube with elements engaging such aorta that the tube is driven in the rotational movement of the housing after said openings have been brought into coincidence.
Another object of the invention is to provide a control device construction which, other than its low cost price, is compact and robust and has only a small number of working parts.
Other advantages will be demonstrated in the course of the detailed description given below with reference to the appended drawing in which:
Fig. 1 is a vertical longitudinal section taken through part of a boiler wall and shows, mounted therein, the improved boiler tube cleaning apparatus, - part of the tube being in section; fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal axial section through the control device and the end of the blast tube associated therewith; Fig, 3 is a vertical cross section on 3-3 (Fig, 2);
fig 4 is a vertical cross section along 4-4 (fig. 2). ,
In these figures, W represents one of the walls of a boiler] 3, provided with the usual tubes T, An opening is provided in the wall W and a sleeve S is fitted in
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
this opening, this sleeve being provided with an external flange a. to which is fixed, by means of bolts or otherwise, a casing 1 which has two internally spaced annular surfaces 2, 2 and on the external surface of which two spaced support arms project, 3.
The end wall 4 of the casing 1 has an opening 5; and a flanged pipe 6¯ projecting downward from the lower cylindrical wall of the casing receives the steam supply pipe 7.
In the casing 1 is mounted a cylindrical housing 8 supported to rotate in the seats 2, 2, its outer end being provided with a projecting pin 9 which passes through the opening 5 of the outer wall of the housing. envelope 1.
A cable gland 10 is fitted around the journal. and subject to the end wall 4 of the casing 1 so as to ensure a hermetic vapor seal between the journal and the opening. A cylindrical recess 11 is formed in the inner end of the journal 9 to receive a boss 12 provided on the closed end 13 of a blowing tube 14 which is mounted to rotate inside the housing 8 and which has an opening steam inlet 15 located in line with a steam inlet opening 16 of the housing 8. The bearing surfaces 2, 2 between them constitute an annular duct 17 surrounding the housing 8, so that when the main valve or distributor (not shown) of pipe 7 is open, annular pipe 17 is filled with steam.
To prevent steam leaks by the clearance that it is necessary to provide between the tube 14 and the housing 8, two groups of three sealing oaths 18, 18 are provided on either side of the intake openings. 15, 16.
In the bearings 3, 3 is mounted a shaft 19 to which are fixed a pinion 20 located in front of said bearings.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
and a wheel 'at. chain 21 located at the front end of said shaft and over which passes a chain 22. A toothed wheel 23 fixed to the journal 9 meshes with the pinion 21, so that when the chain 22 is operated to rotate the wheel 21, the pinion 20 actuates the wheel 25 and rotates the journal 9 and the housing 8 which is integral with it.
An angular notch 24 is provided at the rear edge 85 of the housing 8 and a stop pin protruding from. the outside of the tube 14 penetrates into this notch which. is long enough that, when the housing 8 is rotated to the position shown in the drawing, the inlet openings 15 and 16 become coincident, and when the housing is rotated to a position in which the opposite edge of the notch in the housing abuts pin 26, openings 14 and 16 are no longer in coincidence and steam ceases to be admitted to tube 14.
When the operator has rotated the casing 8 to admit the steam to the tube 14, the continuation of the rotational movement of the casing in the direction of the arrow (fig. 3) causes the tube 14 to rotate due to the fact that 1. ' end of notch 24 is. in contact with the pin 26. As a result, the steam escapes from the nozzles n, n provided at the periphery of the tube and is directed towards the tubes T between the limits of any desired arc. When the tubes have been sufficiently cleaned, a rotation of the housing g. in the opposite direction immediately has the effect of closing the distributor and the continuation of this rotational movement then has the effect of returning the tube 14 to its rest position.
