 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

    Improvements to electric heating and cooking appliances.

   The present invention relates to electric heating and cooking appliances of the type comprising a cover containing an electric heating element and intended to be placed above the food which is to be heated or cooked.

   The object of the invention is to provide an improved heating or cooking device of this type, simple and inexpensive to manufacture, convenient in use and efficient in operation.

   To this end, the electric heating or cooking device according to the present invention comprises a

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 cover intended to be placed above a dish, a plate or any other similar utensil on which the food to be heated or cooked is placed, a handle directed laterally and allowing the lifting device to be lifted. according to the invention and an electric heating element arranged inside the cover and intended to receive the electric current from an external current source through flexible conductors.

   The flexible conductors intended to supply the electric current to the heating element preferably pass through the handle which, for this purpose, is hollow. This handle is preferably made of fiber or any other suitable insulating material or else of wood, porcelain, earthenware, etc. The heating element may have different shapes. However, it preferably comprises a disc-shaped member made of falence or other molded insulating material, this disc being provided with grooves or grooves on its lower surface. In these grooves or in these grooves are placed the heating resistance wires, the ends of which pass through the disc-shaped member and are connected to the flexible conductors.

   Preferably, a wire mesh or other protective cover is placed over the heating element so as to prevent anyone from accidentally touching the resistance wires. In addition, the cover can; be provided on its upper surface with three (or more) members of wood, fiber or other suitable material intended to form legs intended to support the cover when it is overturned, in such a way that a dish or a plate on its open end, thus maintaining this plate or this dish at an appropriate temperature.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

   The invention can be put into practice in various ways; however, in the accompanying drawings there is shown, by way of example, a method of construction of an electric heating and cooking device according to the invention.

   FIG. 1 is a vertical section taken through the plane in which the axis of the handle of the apparatus is located.

   Figure 2 is a view from below
Figure 3 is a plan view.

   In the mode of construction shown, the device comprises a metal cover A which preferably has, in plan as has been shown, a circular shape, its dimensions being such that it can be placed. above the food to be heated placed on a dish or on a plate B of normal dimensions. The lateral circular wall A1 of the cover preferably has a cylindrical shape, as has been shown, or else slightly conical. Its upper wall A2 is preferably substantially flat, the whole being made, for example, of aluminum or any other suitable metal, polished on the outside.

   To the side wall A1 of the cover is fixed rigidly by riveting or in any other suitable manner a sleeve C into which penetrates one of the ends of a hollow handle D made of fiber or any other molded insulating material.

   Inside the cover A is mounted a heating element consisting of a disc-shaped member E supported by the upper wall of the cover by means of three bolts E1 This disc is provided with grooves or grooves E2 in which is placed a heating resistor wire F as seen in Figure 2. The ends

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 of this resistance wire F pass through holes E3 made in plate E, these ends being connected to conductors G1 and G2 coated with an insulator, as can be seen in the figures.

   The conductors Gl and G2 are connected to two flexible conductors wound in a spiral passing through a hole made in the wall Al of the cover, through the sleeve C and, then, by the hollow handle D which is provided at its outer end with a sleeve in rope D1 of known type.

  The conductors G1, G2 preferably form the extension of the flexible conductors G.

   It will thus be noted that by connecting the conductors G, for example, by means of a plug, to an external source of electric current, this electric current is brought to the heating element placed inside the cover A.

  A protective wire mesh H1 is mounted on supports H so as to be located immediately below the heating element E. This mesh is intended to prevent someone from accidentally touching the resistance wire F The brackets H are fixed in a suitable manner to the cover A by means of bolts J which at the same time serve to fix the parts made of wood, fiber or other similar substance J1, arranged on the upper surface of the wall A2 of the cover, these Jl members being intended to form the feet when it is desired to place the device in the inverted state.

   In order to allow the smoke to escape from the inside of the cover, a hole A3 will preferably be drilled in the upper wall thereof.

   When using the appliance, for example to heat or cook food, it is placed on a dish and the cover A is placed on it, as it is.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

 seen in FIG. 1. The conductors G are then connected to a source of electric current in such a way that this current is brought to the heating resistance wire F which is thus brought to a certain temperature. The heat of this wire acts partially by radiation and partially by convection on the food placed on the dish so as to heat or cook it. The device according to the invention can also be turned upside down by placing it on the feet J1 with the dish or plate then placed on its open end while being heated from below.

   Likewise, when the heating or cooking device is in this position, an iron or the like can be placed on the cloth H1.

   It will thus be noted that a heating or cooking device established according to the present invention makes it possible to heat food placed, for example, on the dish on which they are going to be served, which makes it possible to do away with special h4bituelsa kitchen utensils.
It should be understood that the mode of construction shown in the drawings and more particularly described above is given purely by way of example and that the shape of the cover, of the heating element, as well as other details of construction can vary considerably without departing for this from the spirit of the invention.
