 EMI1.1

  JMREECTIONMEMENTS AU FILTRAGE Les divers systèmes de filtres, destinés à
 EMI1.2

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

 EMI1.1

  FILTERING RECOMMENDATIONS The various filter systems, intended for
 EMI1.2
 to rid the feed water of industrial devices from solid impurities which they convey present, in general, serious drawbacks, some cannot be connected directly in series in the supply circuits, but only in bypass, d 'where there is a complication of. facilities; others, due to insufficient cleaning, do not ensure a continuous and regular action,

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 money from depressions in the pipes .; finally, the. most are expensive, complicated or even excessively bulky.

     The present invention enables filters to be made. industrial construction and simple handling .; these filters can be connected directly to existing installations without modification; their cleaning is easy and their operation is constant and efficient.

   According to the invention, the filter is cleaned by interrupting the normal supply of part of the filtering surface; then we head to the face. clean from this first part the clean liquid, leaving the other part of the filtering surface, so that this liquid passes through the first part in the opposite direction to the normal flow and entrains the impurities.

   To achieve the invention, it suffices to provide a filtering surface, means for separating into several parts at the desired time the supply side of the filtering surface, while the sides of the filtered liquid communicate together.

   In a particular embodiment, there is a chamber communicating either with the supply of liquid to be filtered or with an outlet; inside this chamber is a filter cage, the interior of which is in communication with the outlet of the filtered liquid; means make it possible to separate the gap between the cage and the chamber into two parts, these parts being able to be placed in communication either with the supply orifice or with. the discharge port.

   It is advantageous to have a cylindrical chamber and a cage rotating around the axis of this chamber; partitions fixed to the periphery of the cage and bearing contre.la. inner wall of the. room constitute

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 partitions which allow the filtering surface to be separated in two.

   By way of example and to facilitate the intelligence of the description, there is shown in the accompanying drawing an embodiment of the invention.

   Figure 1 is a section through the axis of the apparatus; Figure 2 is a schematic section taken on line 11-11 of Figure 1; Figures 3, 4 and 5 are similar schematic views showing the various operating positions.

   The apparatus consists essentially of a chamber 1 of cylindrical shape carrying three pipes 14, 15, 16, respectively provided with valves 10, 11, 12; inside is placed a cylinder 4 forming the proper filter.

   The chamber 1 consists of a cylindrical body closed at its upper part by a cover 2; this cover forms a guide for the rod 3 actuating the cylindrical inner cage 4 by means of the lever 5. The chamber 1 and the cage 4 are established in such a way that the latter can rotate with a watertight seal on its lower edges 17 and above 18, around its axis. The upper wall 19 of the cage 4 is solid, while the cylindrical part is perforated with holes 13.

   This cage 4 carries on two generatriceso diametrically opposed two rods. 6, 7 fixed by screws 8; these rods form a tight seal when they are in contact with the cylindrical inner wall of the chamber 4.

   Over the cylindrical outer face of the cage 4 is stretched a metal mesh 9 which forms the filtering surface proper; this canvas is tight between the

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 rods 6 and 7 and the wall of the cage 4 so that it is thus held in place.

   The fabric 9 therefore forms a filter sleeve which can be easily assembled or disassembled; in fact, it suffices to remove the cover 2 and remove the rods 6, 7.

   The sleeves can be made of any filtering fabrics depending on the effects to be obtained; for example, in the paper industry, will generally be chosen. wire mesh with meshes of. the appropriate fines; it goes without saying that one could use it for other uses. a perforated sheet, or a piece of ceramic product such as porcelain.

   The tap 11 controls the arrival of the water to be filtered and the tap 10 the discharge of the material to be removed from it. the device; valve 12 controls the outlet pipe for filtered liquid ...

   Finally, some. metal brushes 20, 21 are placed inside the chamber 1 so as to bear against the sleeve 9; the bundles of. brushes are sufficiently spaced to allow circulation of the liquid.

   The operation of the apparatus is explained by going back to the figures. 3, 4 and 5. suppose. that the water inlet is through 11 and the material is discharged through 10. FIG. 3 shows the apparatus in operation; the tap 11 is open, the tap 10 is closed, and the filtered water flows through 12; the entire surface of the. As the cage is under pressure, the sleeve 9 is fully used, and the efficiency is maximum.

   If you just want to sweep the faces. external of the sleeve 9, on laisae. the cage in. the previous position by taking the. precaution to close the tap 12 and open 10, so that a flush washes the assembly.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

   This flush also cleans the space between the sleeve 9 and the chamber 1.

   However, most often, it is necessary to rid the meshes or pores of the sleeve 9 of the impurities embedded therein; to achieve this, we operate as follows: we turn the handle 5 so as to place the chopsticks. 6, 7 in the position of figure 4 (the tap 12 is still closed and% tap10 is open) the pressurized water passes through the sleeve 9 from the left half and leaves it from the right half; the current in the right part being in the opposite direction to that which exists during normal operation, this portion of the sleeve is cleaned. Leak, the rods 6,7 are placed in the position of FIG. 5; it is then the left part of the sleeve 9 which is cleaned.

   If we give to) the lever 5 of. alternating movements pulsations are produced, violent in the liquid currents. , so that the impurities are finally all loosened and removed.

   We see that the device is of a very practical use since one. can easily provide a single control which simultaneously actuates the filter sleeve 9 and the taps.
