<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
REVENDICATIONS.

Mr. Simon KOIRANSKY and CIVIL SOCIETY OF STUDIES OF COLONIAL TEXTILES
The extraction of fibers from textile plants is currently done by means of machines which operate either by crushing the leaves and stems of the plants between fluted or smooth cylinders, or by beating the stems between beaters or other moving organs. reciprocating or rotating movements, and fixed or oscillating parts called concave.
In these machines, a certain number of rods are introduced at the same time which are worked simultaneously, which causes the defibration waste to penetrate into the fibers of the immediately neighboring rods, making the work more difficult and less clean industrially.
The present invention relates to a machine for extracting fibers from ramie stems and other textile plants, remarkable, in particular, in that it comprises, in combination, tools for demoulding, deforestation and barking. and a drive device passing the rods, one by one, successively under each of the aforementioned tools, said tools being arranged in such a way.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
As the waste from each partial operation is immediately removed, avoiding contact with the usable fiber.
According to another characteristic of the invention, the aforementioned tools are arranged one after the other on a work table, inclined laterally so as to allow the immediate evacuation of the waste, the driving of the rod to be defibrated. under successive tools being ensured, for example, by an automatic claw mounted on an endless belt.
Other characteristics will result from the description which follows.

@
The machine shown is intended more particularly for defibrating the ramie rod. This rod, shown in section in FIG. 19, is made up of several concentric layers of different materials, namely starting from the outside: a film 1 of gum forming a protective coating, a layer 2 of textile fibers only usable = sands, wood or woody wood 3 without use, and finally marrow or sap 4 without use, On such a tiga, the successive operations to be carried out are as follows:
the foliage or. tearing of unusable leaves, stripping or removing the pith and sap followed by the unwinding and flattening of the two circular layers = fibers and wood, deforestation, that is to say say the removal of the ligneous tree adhering to the fibers on the inside, and finally the debarking and degumming, that is to say the removal, on the one hand, of the protective varnish layer adhering to the fibers ( outer side) and, on the other hand, liquid sap and gum contained in the fibers.
This being the case, the machine shown comprises (figs 1-2 and 3) a frame 5 suitably braced and resting by an axle 6 on two wheels 7, allowing the machine to be transported to the plantation. At the rear, a crutch 8, articulated
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
in 9 on the frame, keeps the machine in the working position.
The frame carries a motor 10 which, by a transmission belt 11 and a pulley 12, rotates a horizontal shaft 13 carried by two bearings 14 and 15. At the free end of the shaft 13 is mounted a pulley 16. This- pulley drives an endless belt or chain 17, supported at the other end of the frame by an idle pulley 18. This pulley 18 is mounted on a pin 19 carried by an oscillating lever 20 subjected to the action of a spring tension 21. The lever 20 can be, at will, articulated at various points of the frame, such as 9 or 9, for example, so as to make it possible to work rods of varying lengths without loss of time.
The frame 5 carries laterally and longitudinally a work table 22 constituted, for example, by a rigid, well-dressed metal part. This table, on which the various elements for defibrating and cleaning the fibers are mounted, is inclined laterally (figs 2, 3, 4 and 9).
The endless belt or chain 17 carries two drive bushings 23 and 24 (figs 1,2,4) which drive a hollow spindle 25 whose end passing above the table 22 is finished in the form of a yoke. 26. In this yoke are articulated around the axis 27, soft half-claws se * and 28b (figs 4,5,6 and 7) forming a clamp 28. The opening of this clamp is controlled by a cam 29 the rotation of which is caused by an axis 30 passing through the spindle 25 and on which the cam 29 is wedged. The axis 30 carries, at its end opposite to the cam 29, a lever 31 which during the translation of the belt 17, abuts against a fixed lateral ramp 32 carried at a suitable point, by the frame.
In the example shown, this ramp is carried, laterally, by the guide piece 33 which will be discussed later.
The tilting of the lever 31 produces the rotation of 1 tax
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
30 and of the cam 29, the movement of which separates the branches of the two half-claws 28a and 28b and opens the clamp 28. The clamp closing is ensured by a spring 34 (figs 4 and 7), fixed on the branches suitable half-claws 28a and 28b.
Spindle 25 also carries two slides 35 and 36 which guide it in two slides 33, integral with the frame in the horizontal part of the stroke corresponding to the working phases of the machine, as well as in the corresponding part. passing over the pulley 16 (fig. 1) due to the centrifugal force exerted on the spindle 25 in this region
The spindle 25 also carries (figs 2,4,5,8 and 9) a pad 37 whose lower face 38 is inclined. The shoe is capable of successively coming into contact with the bars 39, 39 ', 39 "having a ramp 40 in the opposite direction.
Each of these heels 39 is carried by a lever 41,41 ′ or. 41 "oscillating around a horizontal axis Each of these levers is connected by a connecting rod 43-43'-43", to two ball joints 44 ... and 45 ... of direction substantially normal to the table 22, to a lever 46, 46 'or. 46 ", oscillating about an axis 47 ... carried by the table 22 under its lower face, in the direction of its slope.
The successive levers 46, 46 ', 46 "carry the various tools described below for demoulding, deforestation and barking.
The levers 46, during the working phase, are lowered so that the tools rest on the / work (position in phantom of these levers fig. 8), the fiber to be worked being caught between the tool and table. Return springs 48, 48 'and 48 ", attached at one end to the table and at the other end to the levers, tend to hold said levers 46 in these positions.
By the passage of the pad 37 on the heels 39, the levers 46,46 ', 46 "are brought respectively by oscillation around
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
their axes 47 ... in positions 46a, 46b and 46c allowing between the table 22 and said raised tools (figs 4 and 8) the passage of the clamp 28 and the introduction of the rod to defibrate.
The first tool carried by the table is a demolishing tool. (Figs 10,11 and 12). The lever 46 pivoting around the axis 47 carried on the rear face of the work table 22, carries on a support axis 49, a cutting wheel 50 in free rotation, The spring 48 folds the lever 46 towards the work table 22 leaving a slight clearance between the cutting edge of the wheel 50 and the table 22. A plane 51, in bronze, is placed on the lever 46, immediately behind the wheel 50, This plane has two fins 52 and 53 in bronze , inclined on the path of the fibers.
A ramie rod 54, introduced under the wheel during the lifting of the lever 46 and pulled by the gripper 28 in the direction of the arrow f1 is split lengthwise by the wheel 50. The plane 51 enters at the following this inside the stem 54, and by its overflow shape, rejects the pith and sap out of the stem. The wings 52 and 53 of this plane develop the cylinder formed by the rod 54, now hollow and split, and lay it flat against the work table 22, in the form of a strip 54a.
The deforestation tool is made up as follows (figs 13,14 15 and 16): the lever 46 'articulated on an axis 47, door freely rotating on a support axis 55, a cylinder 56, with helical splines 57, in hard bronze. This cylinder meshes through an opening 58 made in the table 22 with a cylinder 59 with complementary grooves, made of slightly flexible material, wood or vulcanized rubber. This cylinder is mounted idle on a pin 60 fixed on a suitable boss 61 of the table 22.
The lever 46 'is returned to the table 22 by the spring 48', which ensures the engagement despite the differences in thicknesses of the strip formed by the three thicknesses (starting from the table) of the bark, of the fiber and wood. @
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
The shapes of the splines of the flexible drum 59 (fig. 16) are in the profile of the normal teeth of slightly rounded gears. The teeth of the drum 46, in hard bronze, are released so as to form sharp edges 57a which will break and tear the woody,
however, the rounded edges of drum 59 will not mark the underlying fiber. The clearance 62 of the teeth 57 is wider towards the bottom of the drum 56 so that the flanks of the teeth 57 have inclined planes allowing the easy and automatic exit of the wood waste.
On leaving these drums, the tape 54b is made up of only usable fibers and the layer of gum forming chords,
The last tool placed on table 22 is the peeling tool (Figures 17 and 18). The lever 46 ", articulated on the axis 47", fixed under the table, carries several rollers 63, 63 'lined on the outside with a flexible material such as leather or vulcanized rubber. These rollers turn freely on the pins 64 carried by the lever 46 ".
The spring 48 "applies the rollers 63,63 '... against the worktable 22 by pressing the ru.ban of fiber 54b against the knives 65,65' ... fixed on the table 22 in the openings 67, 67 '... made in said table so as to pass the bark over the cutting edge of the knives which remove it.
A funnel 68 (figs 1, 2 and 3) is placed under the work table 22 to collect the waste successively produced. This waste is evacuated by a pipe 69.
Finally in front of the table 22 is placed a leaf stripping fork made up of two segments 70 and 71 of rings made of thin steel blades, sharpened on their edges, and applied by two flexible blades against the rod, which they cut through. pass the leaves that fall outside the machine.
The operation of the machine is as follows: the end of a rod is inserted through the ef- @ fork.
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
foliage 70-71, until the end of the rod is in the passage of the clamp 28 driven by the belt 17 and the spindle 25. The clamp 28 has been opened beforehand by the cam 29, the axis 30, the lever 31 and the ramp 32. At this moment the ramp 33 ceasing, the pin 28 closes under the action of the spring 34 and engages the rod 54 which it drives in the direction of the arrow fl.
The pad 37 by pressing successively on the heels 39, 39 'and 39 "raises the levers 41, 41' and 41" and by the connecting rods 43, 43 'and 43 ", the corresponding levers 46, 46' and 46" , with their tools, which allows the clamp 28 to drive the rod 54 on the work table 22. After the simultaneous passage of the clamp 28 and the shoe 37, the tools returned by the springs 48 still fall on the rod. into a translational movement, and transform it, as indicated above for each of the clean fiber tools.
The pin 28 continuing its path, the entire rod is pulled under the tools, and then returns with the belt 17 to the ramp 32, the contact of which opens the pin 28 which lets the cleaned fiber fall out of the machine.
The clamp 28 then closes on a new inserted rod and the cycle begins again,
Of course, the invention is in no way limited to the embodiment shown and described which has been chosen only by way of example. The machine may in particular include two symmetrical devices. It may or may not be fitted with an automatic dispenser.
