<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
Comme il va de soi, et comme il ressort d'ailleurs déjà de ce qui précède, l'invention ne se limite aucunement à celui de ses modes d'application, non plus qu'à ceux des modes de réalisation de ses diverses parties ayant été plus spécialement indiqués; elle en embrasse, au contraire, toutes les variantes, notamment: celle où l'on adjoindrait à un dispositif du genre de celui qui vient d'être décrit, un réservoir supplémentaire, de plus grande capacité, afin de disposer d'une plus grande réserve de pression;

"Improvements made to devices allowing a vehicle to be moved in all directions, in particular a motor vehicle".
The invention relates to devices making it possible to lift and move a vehicle in all directions; and it concerns more especially (because it is in its case that its application seems to offer the most interest), but not exclusively, among all vehicles, a motor vehicle.
Its main purpose is to decrease the speed and simplicity of maneuvers in garages and those inherent in the current congestion of the roadways in large cities.
It consists, mainly, at the same time in having recourse, in a vehicle, to organs capable of resting on the ground and of lifting, at least in part, the vehicle, and of making said organs comprise means of
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
bearing, to provide at least one bearing system, suitable for resting on the ground, and itself a motor.
It consists, apart from this main provision, of certain other provisions which are preferably used at the same time and which will be discussed more explicitly below.
Bile relates more particularly to a certain mode of application (that in which it is not applied to motor vehicles) as well as to certain embodiments of said provisions; and it relates more particularly still, and this as new industrial products, to vehicles of the type in question, comprising the application of these same provisions, as well as special elements. specific to their establishment.
And it can, in any case, be clearly understood with the aid of the additional description which follows, as well as the appended drawing, which supplement and drawing are, of course, given above all by way of indication.
Fig. 1 of this drawing shows, in perspective, certain parts broken away, an automboils vehicle chassis, comprising a displacement device established according to one embodiment of the invention.
Fig. 2, finally, shows, seen from the front, an essential component of the previous device.
According to the invention, and more particularly according to that of its modes of application, as well as those of the embodiments of its various parts, to which it seems that preference should be given, proposing, for example, ple, to add a displacement device to a motor vehicle chassas, this is done as follows, or in a similar fashion.
Having established organs suitable for resting on the ground and for lifting, at least in part, the vehicle, and provided said members with running means, the au-
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
said chassis has at least one running system, suitable for resting on the ground, and itself a motor, so that an appropriate control makes it possible to bring the vehicle to any desired position.
As regards the aforesaid members, they are formed in any suitable manner, more particularly in the form of pistons, able to slide in part in cylinders fixed to the frame of the vehicle.
It is possible, as shown in fig. 1,
EMI3.1
fix at least four similar cylinders l, 2, 3 a4 (a4 not shown in the figure) to the chassis ac of the vehicle, towards each of the ends of the side members of said chassis, said cylinders carrying pistons b1, b2, b3, b4, suitable for emerging from the lower part of said cylinders and resting on the ground, and also fixing at least one other cylinder, or better still a set of cylinders, comprising for example four,
EMI3.2
a5, a6, a7, a8, provided with their pistons b5, b6, b 79 b8 as shown in the figure, said assembly preferably being arranged substantially in line with the part of the vehicle having its center of gravity, and being more particularly suitable for supporting the engine running system allowing any movement of the vehicle.
According to this last embodiment, the cylinders a5, a6, a7, a8, two by two, and preferably on each side of the cylinder, are advantageously connected in any suitable manner.
EMI3.3
the transmission shaft ,, two crossmembers çl and ± of the chgeais, which crossmembers will moreover effectively contribute to the undeformability of the chassis, and to the support of certain parts of the bodywork.
Any device for controlling the movement of said pistons, electric, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, etc. is provided.
Having, for example, in view a device of the latter
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
To deny it kind, one makes turn, thanks to an appropriate drive taken on the engine, or one of these annexed members, a compressor d, able to compress, by means of a tube dl, air in a nanny e; a tube el leaves from this feeder and ends at a switch f, advantageously placed on the dashboard f. Tubes g, g1, g2, g3, g4 respectively connecting said switch to the central assembly of the 4 cylinders and to the cylinders a1, a2, a3 and a4.
Said oom- mutator is organized in such a way that, depending on the different positions given to the handle 1 2, carried by said switch, communications are established between the tubes and the conduit e1, emanating from the nurse e, so that compressed air can be sent at will to the upper faces of the pistons, and first of all cause them to be lowered.
Return devices, such as springs attached to the upper part of the cylinders and to the upper faces of the pistons, make the pistons retract into their cylinders, when, at the desired moment, the atmosphere is allowed to escape, l compressed air acting.
But as regards the rolling means to be carried to the aforesaid members, there is at the lower part of the pistons a1, a2, a3, a4, any suitable device, for example swivel casters hl, h2, h3, h4 capable of undergo any orientation, and said wheels are advantageously arranged so that their pivot is precisely said pistons themselves.
And, as regards, finally, the engine running system suitable for resting on the ground, the lower ends of the pistons b5 and b8, on the one hand, b6 and b7 on the other hand, are connected by two parallel spacers il and j2, joined together, in their middle, by an axis j
On this axis is mounted a double wheel k (fig. 2),
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
having, in its groove, a toothed pinion 1, which is capable of being driven, by means of a chain m by a pinion n, carried by the transmission shaft.
Two arms . are articulated around the j axis. They each have at their end a wing p1, resting on the chain m, and tending to separate the two branches of the latter, under the action of a spring wound around the pin j, tending, by its support on two small axes 1, each secured to an arm, to increase the angular separation of the two armsp
At the end of which, a device has been established allowing any position to be given to a motor vehicle, and the operation of which is as follows:
Proposing, for example, to move the vehicle parallel to itself to the left, assuming the feed loaded (that is to say containing compressed air at an appropriate pressure) and the various components of the vehicle. device-in non-use state (that is to say in idle state), we place - with the engine stopped or the gearshift lever in neutral - the lever 1 2 on the stud which allows compressed air to be sent to all the cylinders, the air pressure on the upper face of the pistons being greater than the return tension of the springs, the pistons are lowered to '' that the swivel casters and the double wheel come into contact with the ground.
With regard in particular to said double wheel, the pistons b5, b6, b7, b8, while lowering, drive, by means of the spacers il and j2, the axis j, from the upper initial position j0 , for which the arms p were open to the maximum (schematic position p0) at the position for which the double wheel k comes into contact with the ground (the chain 1a then not being stretched along two parallel lines).
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
Then the pressure continuing to be exerted, and reaching a sufficient value, the pistons not being able to lower any more, it is now the cylinders which will rise, and with them lift the frame of which they are integral. , and finally the vehicle itself. The wheels of the vehicle, in particular the rear wheels, are therefore no longer in con-
2 tact with the ground. By returning the lever f to the dead stud, the supply of compressed air is interrupted when the height from which the vehicle has been raised and also the wheels of the latter, which are indirectly released to the spring, are deemed sufficient, and on which the axles weigh, rise less quickly.
In a new position, the distance between pinion n and pinion k is further increased, the chain is not necessarily fully tensioned, however, and the drive of pinion 1 is however possible, due to the pressure of the wings p1 of the arms p, on the chain m, said wings here playing the role of chain tensioners,
In any case, the lifting of the vehicle is limited when the chain m is stretched to the maximum, that is to say along two parallel lines.
Then, starting the engine if it was not already there, you disengage, you put yourself in first gear, and you gradually engage while accelerating. The transmission shaft will rotate, and with it, by virtue of the action of the differential, at least one rear wheel.
But said shaft also drives pinion n, mounted on it, and by means of chain m, pinion 1 and the double wheel k integral with said pinion.
The transmission shaft, seen from the rear, when in forward gear, turns counterclockwise; The same will therefore be true for pinion n and for pinion 1.
The double k wheel will therefore move to the left
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
che, perpendicular to the length of the vehicle. The pivot castors h1, h2, h3, h4 will immediately take the corresponding orientation, and the vehicle will move parallel to itself to the left.
When the translation is judged sufficient, we stop accelerating, we disengage and we come back to neutral (we stop the switch if necessary); the pressurized air contained in the pipe (by a particular position of the lever f2, for example) is gradually brought to the open air by any appropriate exhaust and control system; the vehicle descends until its wheels come into contact with the ground, and the pistons are returned to their cylinders by the springs formed in said cylinders, and the swivel castors and double wheel leave the ground.
Relative to the central assembly, in particular, the axis j comes to occupy the position j0, and the arms p, under the action of the springs q, bearing on the small axes q1, open as much as possible. ; they start first by moving the two branches of the chain apart, and the j axis. continuing to mount the chain ends up leaving pinion n, a result that we had precisely in view, since, during the normal running of the vehicle, the pinion k must obviously not be driven, nor even the chain m meshing with the pinion n or toss around near it.
The pinion k is therefore well clear of the ground. The chain has left pinion 11, and no sloshing can occur, because the chain, now stretched in an isosceles triangle (it was originally a quadrilateral) affects an undeformable position, the two equal sides of the triangle being substantially the same. bras p themselves.
At the end of which, the vehicle was moved parallel to itself, the desired distance, and all the components that had intervened in this maneuver were completely erased.
Normal walking in a vehicle can therefore occur
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
without difficulty, from this new position.
If you want to move the vehicle to the right, you perform the same maneuvers, except that instead of moving in first gear, you put yourself in reverse; the transmission shaft then having an opposite direction of rotation drives in this same direction all the moving parts of the central assembly, in particular of the double wheel k, which ultimately results in a reverse displacement, that is to say to the right of the vehicle.
2
Another position of the lever f makes it possible to send air only to the two rear cylinders a2 and a3, and to the central assembly of the four cylinders. Alone then
2 3 the castors h h and the double wheel k come into contact with the ground, then the rear of the car alone lifts, the front wheels still making contact with the ground.
The control in first gear or in reverse (the rear wheels turning idle) then causes the vehicle to pivot, to the left or to the right, around its front part (substantially around the center of gravity of the triangle formed by the contact points of the front wheels and the double wheel); this pivoting is stopped when the vehicle has turned the desired angle, a quarter of a turn, a half turn, any angle, even a full turn, all these maneuvers being executed on a circle of radius substantially equal to the three- quarters of the length of the vehicle.
A third position of the lever ± 2 enables all the cylinders to be adjusted, with the exception of a front cylinder a1 or a4, so that the vehicle turns while lifting around the point of contact with the ground. of the tire of the wheel adjacent to the non-lowered piston. Then, theoretically, the whole vehicle is rotated around said point of contact, to the left or to the right depending on whether the gearshift lever is placed in first gear or on the whole vehicle; its rear wheels being raised (one would suffice) the mo-
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
tor can turn without the vehicle moving forward. Here again, the pivoting is all azimuth in a circle of radius substantially equal to the diagonal of the vehicle.
Finally, a last position of the ± 2 lever allows the vehicle to be lifted except for one rear wheel.
The other rear wheel turns idle when the clutch is engaged, and the vehicle can be made to pivot substantially around the point of contact of the tire of the rear wheel not raised.
All these maneuvers, translation, pivoting, rotation, ultimately make it possible to bring the vehicle to any desired position. Said maneuvers, easy to perform, are done quickly and simply, in a short space. They make it possible to free a vehicle from a garage, from a line of cars, from congestion, etc.
As goes without saying, and as moreover already emerges from the foregoing, the invention is in no way limited to that of its modes of application, nor to those of the embodiments of its various parts having been more specially indicated; it embraces, on the contrary, all the variants thereof, in particular: that where one would add to a device of the type of that which has just been described, an additional tank, of greater capacity, in order to have a greater pressure reserve;
this reservoir, of the type of a compressed air cylinder, could advantageously be placed on the footboard of the vehicle and be supplied by the compressor, either directly or through the intermediary of the nurse e one where one would provide a device allowing the air from the compressor to escape to the open air as soon as the pressure reaches a certain value, or even better, in order to avoid an unnecessary loss of engine power, a device, then interrupting the compressor drive and reestablishing it as soon as the pressure becomes insufficient, that where a turbo-compressor would be placed on the
<Desc / Clms Page number 10>
exhaust manifold, the exhaust gases, by relaxing,
actuating a turbine driving the compressor storing compressed air in the bottle, the one where the cardan shaft would be supported by a swiveling ball bearing! , supported by one of the two cross members c1, c2, by a side member carried by said cross members, by an appropriate arrangement, and in which a system of shock absorbers capable of preventing harmful shocks, trepidations or oscillations would be provided, that where all the pistons of the device described would be fitted with segments allowing a complete seal, therefore an action of compressed air without parasitic leaks, where the double wheel would be replaced, to allow good grip, by a tracked device , which would stoop, make contact, and be stretched in a manner analogous to that of the chain m,
that where the pinion n would be mounted at the end of the crankshaft, on the primary shaft, on the intermediate shaft, at any appropriate point which would correspond well to the nature of the vehicle, that, finally, which would concern a device comprising application of the main provisions relating to the present invention, and which would be arranged, from the mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic or other points of view, in any way suitable for the use which would be required.
