INDICATEUR un DIRECTION POUR AUTOimBUES. fsAs'MS9r r rr w si c.s msns r u r w W r a.. pesw wlwa w iw w r e w r w r e sn,wrs w rwurwN
?16. &t en donne une vue extérieure, en élévation latéra- le;

INDICATOR a DIRECTION FOR AUTOIMBUES. fsAs'MS9r r rr w si c.s msns r u r w W r a .. pesw wlwa w iw w r e w r w r e sn, wrs w rwurwN
This invention relates to improvements to the driving direction indicators of automobiles, and more particularly to a device of the type which produces and emits a horizontal signal similar to a semaphore, projecting from each side of the vehicle at the position of the headlights. ordinary, and showing on each side an inscription in legible characters above the front than behind the automobile.
The invention resides in a combination of certain traits. new. incorporated in the device in question, and specified in the drawings appended to this patent application,
In these drawings:
Fig, 1 shows an automobile with the direction indicator in the operating position.
? 16. & t gives an exterior view, in side elevation;
Fig. 3 gives a view in vertical section; Fig. 4 is a view of the device, projected in plan.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
In these figures ,,, the number 5 designates an electric motor @ of which 6 is the collector and 7 the set of brushes. An endless screw 8 is attached to the motor shaft and it meshes with the pinion 10 qbi rotates the shaft 10 on which the pinion 11 is wedged.
This shaft 10 rotates in adjustable conical bearings (at 12) and by the intervention of the pinion 11, it causes the rack 13 to play back and forth with which this pinion 11 meshes.
The usual lantern 14 constituting an envelope for these headlights is incorporated into the device; it is fixed to the rack 13 and to the fabric ribbons 15 on which the characteristic warnings 16 are painted. The coils 17 driven by springs and on which the ribbons 15 are wound under the inaction of the springs., are carried by a frame of common casing 18 to which the incandescent lamp sockets 19 have also been fixed by means of the support 20.
Under these conditions, during the excitation of the motor 5 operated with the aim of projecting the warning sign, the lantern 14 comes out with this sign, thus leaving the incandescent lamp in its fixed position ;, to project its beam d illumination towards the outside, between the letter ribbons 15, with the help of the SI reflection collar. The rack 13 slides in suitable guides, formed in the casing 18 and it carries projecting pins 22 and 23, one on each side, these latter cause the respective switches to move, namely :, the one 24 giving the connection with the lamp and that 25 giving the connection with the motor.
The switch 25 serving the motor is pivotally adjustable at 26, 1, central rate 27 being provided with pins 28 and 29 which go beyond it and come into contact with a pin 22 or 23 depending on whether this rack 13 performs its movement. in one direction or the other, which causes the partial rotation of the axis 27.
The contacts are made by the flat bars, with elastic clearance 30 and 31; the one 30 being permanently connected to the point 32 and establishing an intermittent contact at 33 as the contactor brush 34 performs its sliding in the direction of the contact 33. Sweating at the bar 31, it. is similar to him. but busy
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
In the opposite place, the lamp switch 24 is joined by a resilient contact piece 37 which is actuated by the brush 38 in a manner analogous to the switch 25, but of course in another plane.
The curved bar 37 is connected to three terminals 39; 40-41; connection after closing the lamp circuit; the room
40 is connected so as to open the circuit of the lamps and that
41 is connected to the terminal board. Under these conditions, in contact of the pin 23 with the bifurcated end of the lever 42, the brush 38 acts so as to force the bar 37 to pass against the terminal which relates to it. When the end of the semaphore 14 is forced to downshift by the motor 5 the action exerted by a buffer spring 43 ensures the absorption of any shock.
