<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

Automatic overturning device for liquid measuring devices comprising two measuring vessels.
Reversing devices are known by apparatus for measuring liquids comprising two measuring receptacles, in which the reversing or distribution member, for example a multi-way valve, is operated alternately, with a tilting mechanism, by the pressure in the filled measuring vessel which acts on a piston.
In order that, in these known mechanisms, the dead point of the tilting mechanism can be overcome or exceeded, and this effectively, special devices had to be provided, because this dead point, which takes place for an average position, does not cannot yet be exceeded when the reversing valve is in its middle position
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
or closed position, and thus, when the distributor piston is no longer under pressure. The devices known for overcoming or eliminating the neutral point of the tilting mechanisms, result in a difficult operation of the valve key, so that the danger of jamming, and consequently of not overturning, is great.
To avoid this drawback, the device in accordance with the present invention provides for placing the cylinder of the reversing piston in communication, via a second pipe, with the pipe bringing the fluid under pressure. By means of this second line, the reversal piston is still under the influence of the pressure of the fluid, when the reversing valve of the measuring vessels is already in its closed position.
The reversing piston, under the influence of the pressure of the fluid, then moves the valve of the receptacles beyond its average position, and a spring-loaded tilting mechanism beyond its neutral point, this mechanism acting on an organ of reversal interposed in the second pipe going to the cylinder of the reversing piston. Since, in the pressure line, the pressure increases until the valve of the containers is again moved, and a line going to one of the containers is opened again, it cannot happen, with this device, that the valve remains blocked when the two containers are closed, as is the case with known devices.
The reversal or reciprocating movement of the tap of the measuring vessels is therefore much safer with the device according to the present invention.
An embodiment of the overturning device according to the present invention has been shown in the accompanying drawing by way of example.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Figure 1 is a view of the device, some parts being cut away, while
Figures 2 and 3 show the device sehematically in different positions.
The two measuring vessels 1a and 1b are connected by means of the reversing valve 5 to a pipe 4 supplying the fluid from a pump. The valve key 5 carries a toothed segment 10 whose rotational movement is limited by a stop 6 engaged with a slot in this segment.
In the extreme position of the segment 10 which is shown in Figure 1, the valve 5 communicates the container 1a with the pressure line 4 while the container 1b communicates with the drain line 20. In the middle position of the segment (see figure 2), the valve 5 closes the communication between the two safety receptacles, both with the fluid supply pipe 4 and with the exhaust or drain pipe 20. In the other extreme position of the segment 10 (see figure 3), the container 1b is in communication with the pipe 4 and the container 1a with the exhaust pipe; 20.
The two receptacles 1a and 1b are connected at their top by an air pipe 2, and provided at their orifice with valves 3a and 3b respectively. If a container is filled,, a float in a known manner lifts the body of the valve 3a or 3b and closes the communication of the container with the air line.
A spring 11 is attached at one end to a spring eyelet 30 which is mounted and rotatable in a housing enclosing the valve 5. At its other end the spring 11 is attached to a spring eyelet which is pivotally mounted on an arm 10a of the toothed segment. If the tap 5 is moved, the spring 11 is compressed, until the tap
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
or in its middle position, in which it closes all communication between the two receptacles 1a and 1b, both with the supply pipe 4 and with the exhaust pipe 20 (see FIG. 2). For this position of the valve, the center of rotation of the eye 30 is in the extension of the axis of the arm 10a.
For this position of the valve, the tilting system acting on the segment 10 and formed by the arm 10a and the spring 11 is at its neutral point, because the pressure of the spring 11 on the arm 10a does not produce any. moment of tor.sion. But as soon as the segment has passed its neutral point, the spring rotates it and brings it to the position shown in figure 3.
The segment 10 meshes with the teeth of a connecting rod 9 sliding in guides 18. This rack connecting rod is arranged in the axis of two cylinders 8a and 8b and between the two pistons 7a and 7b working in these cylinders. If the connecting rod 9 is in contact with a piston, when the two pistons are in their extreme position on the same side (see figure 1), the connecting rod is at a certain distance from the other piston. If it is pushed by the piston which touches it until it comes into contact with the other piston, it turns the ring 10 to its neutral point (see figure 2).
Each of the two cylinders 8a and 8b is placed in communication by a pipe 16a or 16b with a measuring vessel, and by another pipe 13a or 13b with a multi-way valve 12. This valve 12 is arranged in a bypass of the pressurized fluid line 4.
A lever 15 fixed to the journal of the key of the valve 12 is engaged in a notch of the connecting rod 9, the end of this lever moving between two stops 14a and 14b.
The operation of the device is as follows:
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
When the measuring vessel 1a is filled, the device being in the position shown in FIG. 1, the valve 3a closes the communication with the air line 2 ,, so that, with the pump continuing to be maneuvered, a certain suppression s 'establishes in the measuring vessel, producing an exhaust through line 16a into cylinder 8a. This results in a movement to the left of the piston 7a which pushes the connecting rod 9 in front of it. This rotates the segment 10 which drives the key of the valve 5 until the latter reaches its closed position, the rocking mechanism 10a-11 likewise reaching neutral (see FIG. 2).
In this position, the valve 5 closes the communication of the receptacle 1a with the supply line 4.
On the other hand, the valve 12 is in such a position for this position of the valve 5 that the communication between the pipe 4 with the cylinder Sa via the pipe 13a is open. The piston 7a is therefore still under the control of the pressure of the fluid which pushes it to its extreme left position. In this movement, it drives the connecting rod 9. This rotates the segment 10 beyond its neutral point. As soon as this takes place, the spring 11 comes into action. This spring assists the rotation of the segment 10 by the connecting rod 9 and the piston 7a until the latter reaches its extreme left position. It then drives the segment and the key of the valve 5 alone, until the stop 6 reaches the other end of the slot made in the segment 10 (see Figure 3).
The communication of the line 4 with the container 1b and of the container 1a with the exhaust line 20 are then open. The rotation of the segment 10 by the spring 11 cpntinue pushing the connecting rod 9 to the left, while the udder 7a remains in its extreme left position. The connecting rod 9 then comes into contact with the piston 7b which it drives, sibien that the contents of the cylinder 8b is sent into the container 1n
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
which had been emptied previously, and which then fills completely, as soon as the tap 5 is in a position such that it establishes communication between the receptacle and the supply line 4.
When the segment 10 has rotated sufficiently for the valve 5 to have passed its middle position and the tilting mechanism 10-11 its neutral point, the stopper 14a strikes the lever 15 of the valve 12 and causes it to rotate, so that the valve 12 is also reversed when the connecting rod 9 reaches its extreme left position (see FIG. 3). The valve 12 then connects the supply line 4 with the cylinder 8b. If the container 1b is filled and if the air line is closed by the valve 3b, the sequence of operations described begins again, with the difference that now the piston 7b is pushed to the right with the connecting rod 9 and that, consequently the valves 5 and 12 are moved in the opposite direction.
It is impossible to block or stop the valve 5, because the piston 7a or 7b remains under the influence of the pressure of the fluid until the tilting mechanism 10-11 has passed its neutral point and has returned to position. Operating.
