 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 7>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 8>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 9>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 10>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 11>

     On peut établir des rubans de toute largeur désira- ble et leur faire comporter un nombre de fils de chaîna appro- prié. Il suffira, dans tous les cas, ayant convenablement pré- vu et disposé les bobines d'alimentation, de choisir judicieu- sement la filière voire le formateur 4, et les rouleaux 8. Il aara ainsi possible d'établir des rubans à doubles fils de chaîne, disposition qui s'est révélée avantageuse.

 <Desc/Clms Page number 12>

   "Improvements made to processes and devices for the establishment of tapes with adhesive threads".

   The invention relates to methods and slides for making bonded wire tapes.

   First of all, we were satisfied with establishing such strips using a small ply of juxtaposed warp threads, which was maintained in this position by suitable gluing. These tapes were unsatisfactory because they did not show any strength in the transverse direction.

   Ribbons of the type in question were then established by assembling two plies of warp son, between which the plies were interposed, by a reciprocating movement, an auxiliary yarn, which was coated sinusoidally between the two. The aforesaid webs * The ribbons obtained in this way, although having a more appreciable transverse strength than the preceding ones, had a serious drawback due to the fact that the edge yarns of a ribbon, only now remain.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 bare to the other threads by gluing, frequently came off the entire ribbon.

   The object of the present invention is, above all, to make it possible to establish bonded yarn tapes in a more satisfactory manner than hitherto, both from an economic point of view and from the point of view of solidity.

   It finds, mainly - as regards the processes of the kind in question -, to wrap, by at least one auxiliary wire, in a kind of flat helix, the selvedge wires and, possibly, at least one wire of warp, and, in the case where only part of the catnip threads have been wrapped, to be added to the web thus formed, on at least one of its faces, at their respective locations, the other warp threads, and - as regards devices of the kind in question - to circulate, in such a manner, between a die and drive rollers or the like, and, advantageously, in the vicinity of a forming member, the selvedge yarns with tension and, optionally, at least one warp yarn, and at least one auxiliary yarn, unwinding from a spool in rotary motion around the aforesaid yarns,

   wraps them in a kind of flat helix, and, in the case where only part of the warp threads have been wrapped, to complete the layer of threads obtained, as it passes between the aforesaid rollers, with the other warp threads , said rollers then being preferably provided with means for bringing all the warp threads to their respective locations.

   It consists, apart from this main provision, of certain other provisions which are preferably used at the same time and which will be discussed more explicitly. below.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

   It relates more particularly to certain modes of application, as well as certain embodiments, of said arrangements; and it also relates more particularly, and this as new industrial products, to devices of the type in question comprising the application of these same provisions, to the special elements specific to their establishment, to the newly obtained glued wire tapes, as well as installations, fixed or mobile, comprising similar devices.

   And it can, in any case, be well understood with the aid of the additional description which follows, as well as the appended drawings, which supplement and drawings are, of course., Given mainly by way of indication.

   Figs. 1 and 2, of these drawings, show, diagrammatically, respectively in elevation and in partial plan, a device for establishing tapes with glued threads, said device being established according to a first embodiment of the invention. ..

   Fig. 3 shows, in schematic perspective, certain components of said device.

   Fig. 4 shows, schematically, in elevation, another device established according to a second embodiment of the invention.

   Fig. 5 shows, similarly to FIG. 3, certain components of the previous device.

   Figs. 6a, 6b, 6c- 7a, 7b, 7c- 8a, 8c, finally, show, to. on a large scale, in end or plan views, three different kinds of tapes established using the aforesaid devices.

   According to the invention and more particularly according to this
Ion that of its modes of application, as well as those of the methods. of its various parts, to which it seems that preference should be given, proposing to realize a device for the establishment of thread tapes

 glued, we do it as follows, or analogously.

   Is made to circulate, in such a manner, between a die and driving rollers or the like, and, advantageously in the vicinity of a forming member, the selvedge threads with tension, and, optionally, at least one warp yarn. , that at least one auxiliary wire, unwinding from a spool rotating around the aforesaid wires, wraps them in a kind of flat helix, and, in the case where only part of the wires have been wrapped chain, the yarn grab obtained, as it passes between the aforesaid rollers, is completed by the other warp yarns, said rollers then preferably being provided with means for bringing all the catnip yarns to their locations. respective.

   Depending on the case, in fact, one will envellopera either only the selvage threads 1, or the selvage threads 1 and certain catnip threads 2 (fig. 1 and 3), or, finally, the selvage threads 1 and all the warp threads (fig. 4 and 5).

   In the first two cases, then, one will add, to the layer of threads obtained, either all the warp threads 3, or else the catnip threads 3 other than those having been wrapped (fig. 3).

   Although in practice it is, in most cases, sufficient to cause the selvedge threads to circulate with an appropriate tension so that the auxiliary thread, when wrapping them, does not bring them appreciably together, it will be advantageously use of a forming member 4 on which the auxiliary yarn will wrap, the selvedge yarns, or even at least some warp yarns, which, in any case, will leave the selvedge yarns at a constant spacing, substantially equal to the width of the tape at establish.

   Under these conditions, we give the trainer 4, u-

 ne-form for example flat and we bring the selvedge son 1 to run in the vicinity of its longitudinal sides and, if we propose to wrap at least some warp son, we also bring them to run in the vicinity of said member parallel to the binding threads and at the same speed, in well-determined positions (such that these threads, once enveloped, occupy the longitudinal positions which they must occupy in the tape to be established).

   To guide the wires to be wrapped, recourse is had, on the one hand, to a die or the like 5, which advantageously has either holes (FIG. 3) or notches (FIG. 5), to provide passage for all these threads, and, on the other hand, tangent drive rollers 8 with preferably horizontal axes and such that their tangent plane passes through the median plane of the die 5 (and through the trainer 4 if one has been provided for one, in which case we therefore have the latter horizontally).

   The auxiliary yarn 6 unwinding from a spool 7 in (/ rotational movement around the son to be wrapped, or even-'of the trainer 4 (rotational movement whose axis is parallel to the sena of movement of the wrapped son and substantially coincident, with the middle line of the layer of these threads), will thus wrap the selvedge threads 1, or even at least part of the warp threads 2, in a kind of flat helix, or better, in a regular and continuous broken line, the inclination or "pitch" of which will, of course, depend on the ratio of the angular screw of the spool 7 to the speed of movement of the wrapped fila.

   Advantageously, to prevent the auxiliary wire
6 take umou, the coil 7 is braked in its unwinding, also thanks to which the auxiliary wire comes to perform a certain clamping on the son
Under these conditions, to facilitate the release of the fila from the trainer, the latter is preferably given

 <Desc / Clms Page number 6>

 a slight sharpness (it is made, for example, to present, in plan, the shape of an isosceles trapezoid of low angle at the top (fig. 2).

   If we have not wrapped all the warp threads by the auxiliary thread, it naturally completes the sheet of wrapped fila.

   Advantageously, then, use is made of the drive rollers 8 which are then preferably provided with means for bringing all the warp threads to their respective locations (said rollers then becoming forming rollers).

   Said means are advantageously formed by placing in the rollers 8 grooves 9 each suitable for receiving and guiding a warp yarn, some of the selvedge yarns 1, or even for example at least some warp yarns 2. , the others, possibly, the other chain threads 3.

   To lead to the die 5 the yarns to be wrapped unwinding from reels 10 for the selvedge lines 1, and, optionally, from reels 11 for the warp yarns or yarns 2, use is made, for example, of a rod 12 which it is fixed, cantilevered, at the end of an arm 13a of a support 13, which is itself fixed on a frame 14.

   In order to set the spool 7 from which the auxiliary wire 6 is to be unwound in rotation, said spool is advantageously provided with a crank 15 fixed to a sleeve 16a, supported by the support 13, crossed by the aforesaid rod 12, and integral with a pulley or the like 16 suitable for being driven by any suitable energy source.

   A rod 17 terminated by an eyelet 17a serving to guide the auxiliary wire is secured to said crank.

6 unwinding from the reel 7, prevented from unwinding freely thanks to a braking device 7a.

   Is removably mounted on the aforesaid rod 12, the die 5 and, optionally, at the end of said rod, and preferably horizontally, the former 4.

   With regard to this die, it is made to present, substantially in the direction of the longitudinal sides to the former, two holes 18 for the passage of the selvedge yarns 3, and, in the case where it is proposed to wrap some warp threads 2, as many holes 19 located in appropriate planes, parallel to the direction of movement of the garlic (fig. 3) but, if we propose to wrap all the threads of ahaine 2, it is advantageously spared a notch 20 in the die for the passage of all these threads (fig. 5).

   If a trainer is provided, the aforesaid eyelet 7a is located substantially in the plane perpendicular to the direction of circulation of the wrapped fila which determines, in said former, a width substantially equal to that of the band to be established, the auxiliary thread 6, passing through said eyelet, enveloping, when the pulley 16 is actuated, the threads of li-
Beer 1, and possibly at least some of the warp threads 2, arriving either on both sides of the former (fig.

   3), or on one side only (fig. 5).

     . it can then be seen that the auxiliary wire 6, since the spool 7 is inserted in its unwinding, envelops the fila having passed through the die 5, with a certain clamping.

   Nevertheless, all these fila are easily released from a trainer thanks to the slight acuity expected.

   It is then advantageously arranged so that the selvedge fila 1, running in the vicinity of the longitudinal sides of the former, have a certain tension (for example by arranging "bar feed" rollers 21 and
21a on the course of these. son),

 <Desc / Clms Page number 8>

 and, on the contrary, ire, - and if, in particular, we propose to wrap all the warp threads - so that the warp threads to be wrapped are not stretched (which is why, for example, we bring them directly from their coils a 11 to die 5).

   If a trainer has not been provided, the wrapping of threads 1, or even 2, is carried out in the same way, because care has always been taken to give the hands to the selvedge threads sufficient tension so that the the auxiliary thread, by wrapping them, does not appreciably reduce their stretching (substantially equal to the width of the tape to be laid).

   Anyway, after wrapping, the threads of
1 selvedge and the warp son 2, if there are any, occupy, in the web thus formed, the longitudinal positions which they must ultimately occupy in the tape to be established.

   As mentioned above, the sheet of threads wrapped between the drive rollers 8 is then made to arrive, the tangent plane of which passes substantially through the two holes 18 of the die (and possibly through the former 4).

   These rollers are advantageously mounted, removably and adjustable in the axial direction, on a support 22 resting on the frame 14, and this support is made movable in the sena for the circulation of the threads, for example at the using a threaded rod 23, which can be actuated by a knurled button 23a and able to coact with a slide 24 connected to the support 22.

   If all the chatne threads have been wrapped, one is content, for example, to provide, in the rollers 8, two grooves 9 for guiding the selvedge threads 1.

   But if only part of the warp threads have been wrapped, other grooves 9 are provided in at least one of said rollers for the supply of other warp threads 3, suitable for unwinding from coils 25, located either on one side of the marl with respect to the common tangent plane.

   rollers 8, if it is proposed to deposit the aforesaid son

 <Desc / Clms Page number 9>

 of warp 3 on one and the same face of the sheet of wrapped threads, either on either side of this plane, if it is proposed to lay the warp threads 3 on both faces of this sheet (in which case, grooves 9 in the two rollers 8), and, in any case, before their arrival on the rollers 8, the warp threads are advantageously "tied up" with the help of at least one roller 26 and they are guided , preferably, by at least one comb 27.

   In all cases, the grooves 9 of the rollers 8 are given spacings equal to those which must have between them all the warp threads in the tape to be established and it is thus conceived at the exit of said rollers, the armor 28 of said ribbon is definitively constituted.

   This weave is then brought, either directly or - and especially in the case where all the warp threads have been wrapped - with the interposition of feed rollers 29 and 29a, on a roller 30 immersed in a sizing solution 31 contained in a tank 32, said solution being brought to the desired temperature by any suitable heating system, for example using a second tank 32a by means of which heating can be carried out by "bain-marie ".

   In order to squeeze out the excess sizing solution from the glued armor, use is advantageously made of a roller 33, placed in contact with the sizing roller 32, the glued armor being caused to pass between these two rollers.

   Finally, apparatus of any suitable type is then provided for drying the glued weave and for winding the finally established tape.

   As a result of which, a device has been produced for the establishment of tapes with glued threads and the operation of this device, resulting from what has just been said, has

 <Desc / Clms Page number 10>

 need no further explanation.,
The advantages of such a device come, inter alia, from the fact that the ribbon obtained, the selvedge yarns of which are still enveloped by the auxiliary yarn 6, has a greater strength than the tapes, of the same. kind hitherto used, and that the said device, all of whose organs effect relative movements, gives, all things being equal, a greater production than that obtained with devices establishing ribbons of the kind in question with auxiliary wire,

   devices which would always include parts in reciprocating motion.

   Of course, it is possible, with a device of the type of that just described, to establish tapes with bonded son of the most varied shapes and arrangements.

   It is possible, first of all, to choose the threads of the ribbon in any suitable material, silk, cotton, or the like, and also choose the auxiliary thread in a material other than that of the warp threads.

   The different yarns can be given different colors, for example giving the auxiliary yarn, or even the selvage yarns, a different color from that of the catnip yarns.
It is also possible to wrap the chain threads with several auxiliary threads, for example with two unwinding threads, either from the same spool 7, or, better still, from two diametrically opposed spools, this arrangement having the advantage to balance the piaas, integral with these coils, in rotational movement.

   As mentioned above, it is also possible to give the auxiliary yarn any desired inclination on the cat yarns, by suitably choosing the angular speed of the spool 7, relative to the circulation speed of these warp yarns.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 11>

     Ribbons of any desired width can be made and made to include an appropriate number of chain threads. It will suffice, in all cases, having suitably planned and arranged the supply coils, to judiciously choose the die or even the former 4, and the rollers 8. It is thus possible to establish double-thread tapes. chain, an arrangement which has proved to be advantageous.

   Three varieties of ribbons which can be obtained by the present process have been shown in the last figures).

   Fig. 6 shows, at the end, the weave of a ribbon before gluing, weave in which we have only wrapped the selvedge threads 1 and deposited three chatne threads from above and two from below.

   Figs. 6b and 6 show the same weave after sizing and expression of excess sizing. Note that the auxiliary wire 6 is deformed to allow all the warp son to align.

   Figs. 7a, 7b and 7c show, in the same way,
The weave of a ribbon in which we have wrapped the two selvage threads 1 and two warp threads 2 and arranged five warp threads 3, three from above and two from below. It was also noted in fig. 7b, the deformation undergone by the auxiliary thread 6 after sizing and expression and it can be seen that the threads 1 and 2 are well enveloped by said thread 6, since the latter surrounds them on all sides.

   Figs. 8a and 8c, finally, show, at the end and in plan, the weave of a ribbon in which the selvedge threads 1 and all the warp threads 8 have been wrapped. A rod 8b would be similar to FIG. 8a, since, in this case, no warp yarn being deposited after wrapping, the auxiliary yarn 6 does not undergo any deformation.

   As goes without saying, and as moreover already emerges from the foregoing, the invention is in no way limited to that of its modes of application, nor to those of

 <Desc / Clms Page number 12>

 embodiments of its various parts, having been more specifically indicated; on the contrary, it embraces all the variants.

    ABSTRACT
