Description

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

     Par ses effets, ce procédé se présente.donc comme une rétrogradation du fil de viscose, puisqu'au cours de sa filature, il est toujours soumis à des étirages à l'état gonflé dont l'effet est de réduire sa capacité d'allongement. Ces étirages sont nécessaires car des fils ayant une capacité d'al- longement trop considérable ne seraient pas utilisables pratique- ment dans les opérations habituelles de tissage, soit comme trame, soit comme chaîne .

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

  "Improvements in the treatment of artificial silk threads"
Crepe-effect fabrics are obtained by employment. 'of son; twisted whose twist is, for example, for a viscose yarn, with a count of 100 denier, 3800 turns per meter, @ To make similarly twisted yarns, one is obliged to subject them to a treatment, called gluing , which allows them to 'withstand high torsions without weakening their mechanical properties or breaking elementary strands ,.

   It is also possible, with certain precautions and the use of special machines, to overwrite viscose threads without subjecting them to sizing.

   The author of the present invention has found that the principle which he has applied to the preparation of overwisted acetate yarns

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 cellulose in the patent application filed in BELGIUM on
 EMI2.1
 1er M-AE I93p "under heading No. 303d3I6 could also apply to the preparation of over-twisted viscose yarns. It is therefore unnecessary to subject the viscose intended to be over-twisted to a sizing, as also to use special machines to achieve this over-twist.

   The ma-
 EMI2.2
 Usually used chines and referred to as "mills" can without modification serve to over-twist viscose yarns which have not been sized but which have undergone physical modification characterized by shrinkage and increased elongation at break.

   The object of the present invention is, -the preparation of twisted viscose yarns intended for the manufacture of fabrics.
 EMI2.3
 called "pancake". For this, the viscose yarns are immersed in a solution of an alkaline base or of a salt or any other substance capable of swelling the viscose by modifying its physical properties in such a way that the yarn has undergone shrinkage at the same time as an increase in its elongation at break.
This treatment is carried out at a temperature and for a variable duration, depending on the concentration and the nature of the solution used and sufficient to achieve the desired effect.

   After washing and drying, the yarn can be used as
 EMI2.4
 which for the preparation of overbraided wires,, / example:
100 denier viscose yarns are immersed for 10 minutes in an aqueous solution containing 30 grams of caustic soda per liter and at a temperature of 20 C. It is washed.
 EMI2.5
 then in pure cold water eliminates, totq; ement the soda contained in the fiber, then another wash is made with a dilute acid.

   It is then dried at a temperature of about 50 centigrade. '
100 denier viscose yarns prepared as is
 EMI2.6
 described above are brought to a twist of. 8 & ÔQ., Fiéurs, aq.: Métée -'-'.'.-: 4 'y.ttY,' .- 1Y'tr> "." Sy 'ekt on a mill and twisted one to the left, the- other.5 'to -clroï

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

These threads are used to weave at 27 strokes per centimeter a warp of 45 threads per centimeter of 75 or 100 denier cellulose acetate or of 100 denier visoose, for example, by two twisted strokes to the right and two twisted strokes to the left, the chain .- walking in taffeta and we thus obtain a fabric,

  'exhibiting after scouring and dyeing the characteristic qualities of a good fabric called "crepe de ohine".

     It is understood that this treatment can be carried out on silk in fleets or in turbine spinning cakes, or in any other form in which the yarn is not stretched or is not likely to dry under tension.

   . This operation can take place during the finishing of the viscose silk after spinning.

   The so-called viscose silk desulphurization treatment II (sodium sulphide treatment) may even achieve the desired object if the conditions of concentration, time and temperature allow shrinkage of the yarn. For this purpose, this treatment desulphurization is combined with the above treatment with caustic soda. It is obvious that then. it will not need to dry under tension. After desulphurization and soda treatment combined, the wire can undergo further operations. such as a bleach or a sizing and be used for the manufacture of crepe yarns without the need to glue it or to employ special machines to over-twist it.

     By its effects, this process is presented as a retrogradation of the viscose yarn, since during its spinning, it is always subjected to stretching in the swollen state, the effect of which is to reduce its elongation capacity. . These drawings are necessary because yarns having too great an elongation capacity would not be practically usable in the usual weaving operations, either as a weft or as a warp.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

   These yarns, however, could be used for the manufacture of crepe yarns without sizing because of their great elongation capacity. ''
If, therefore, the spinning conditions are changed so that yarns having an elongation capacity of 30-35% are obtained directly, these yarns will be able to produce. ordinary mills be subjected to the usual twists without the need to wrap them or subject them to a swelling treatment
Consequently, another means of carrying out the present invention also consists, in the use of the creped fabrics, of crepe yarns obtained by twisting the yarn having, by the conditions of their spinning, an elongation capacity. . from 30 to 35%.

   The necessary torsion is communicated to them immediately after the spinning finishing operations: desulfurization, bleaching, sizing, without being subjected to sizing or a swelling treatment. The sons as well
 EMI4.1
 manufactured are able to receive the necessary twist, at 1 t, ohten- tion of the creping of the fabrics in which they will be incorporated, but are difficult to use, precisely because of their excessive elongation, in warp or weft
Thus, a viscose yarn to obtain 100 denier crepe will have to be spun at 110 denier with an elongation capacity of 30 to 35% and will be drawn back by elongation on the mills, during the necessary over-twist of about 2200 turns. by the meter,

   at a count of 100 denier if the thread is untwisted at zero turns.
