<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

"IMPROVEMENTS TO SEATS, IN PARTICULAR TO THOSE FOR MOTOR VEHICLES.
The invention relates to a seat, more especially for a motor vehicle, in which the backrest is articulated to the support, with an adjustable position in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle, for the frame carrying the seat cushion, the backrest also being connected. to said chassis by connecting rods, which push the latter forward when the backrest is tilted forward.
Seats of this type are known, however, in them the support of the frame, carrying the seat cushion, is constituted by a closed frame which hinders the accessibility of the space existing below the seat, even if the cushion is removed
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
This drawback is avoided, in accordance with the invention, by constituting the support for the frame of the seat only by two angles arranged in the direction of movement of the seat and the positions of which can be modified with respect to slides, also. in the form of angles, fixed to the bottom of the vehicle.
As for the object of the invention, there are no cross members or spacers between the lugs, which serve as a support for the frame of the seat, the space which is located below the latter is easily accessible. , when we have removed the cushion and tilted the frame upwards. Another advantage of the invention lies in the fact that the height of the seat, according to the invention, is particularly reduced owing to the fact that the frame, the support elements and the slides for the latter all consist of angles which are engaged in each other.
The accompanying drawings show, by way of example, one embodiment of the invention.
Figs. 1 and 2 show, in side view, a seat established according to the invention, FIG. 1 indicating the usual position of the seat and Fig. 2 that for which the backrest is tilted forward.
Figs. 3 and 4 show, respectively in plan and in elevation, a seat established in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 5 shows, in side view and on a larger scale, the seat immobilizer.
Fig. 6 also shows on a larger scale the support of the cushion and the frame.
On the destina, we denote by 1 a frame constituted, for example, by angles and in which is engaged, @
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
removably, the cushion with its wooden frame 2.
On either side of the frame are provided connecting rods 3, which, by one end, are articulated to pivots 4, carried by the frame. The other end of the connecting rods 3 is articulated, at 5, to the backrest 6.
The frame 1 can slide on rails 7, having a cross section in the form of an angle. To the rails 7 is articulated the lower end of the backrest 6 by means of pivots 8. At the rear end of the rails 7 are provided supports 9, the height of which can be adjusted by a thread.
In the normal seat position, notches in the backrest are engaged on the supports 9.
Between the frame 1 and the horizontal flange of the rail 7, in the form of an angle iron, is interposed a fiber lining 11 to facilitate sliding.
The rails 7, which constitute the support of the seat, are, for their part, mounted on slides or guides 12 so that their position can be adjusted. The slides 12, which also have an L-shaped cross section, are fixed to the bottom of the vehicle. In the lower flange of one of the slides, orifices 13. At the anterior end of the corresponding rail 7 is articulated an angled lever 14, the upper end of which carries a handle 15. On the lower face of the rail. horizontal part of the angled lever 14. is mounted a lug 16, which can be engaged in any one of the holes 13 of the slideway 12. The engagement of the lug 16 in the holes 13 is ensured by a spring 17.
By releasing the cushion 2 from the frame 1, the space below the seat becomes accessible. In addition, it is possible, after removing the cushion, to tilt the frame 1 around the pivots 5 or else around the pivots 4, so that the space in
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
under the seat becomes absolutely free.
The frame 1 with the cushion 2 and the rails 7, forming the support of this frame, as well as the backrest 6, can slide, as a whole, on the slides 12 and can be immobilized in the desired position, at using the device 14, due to the fact that its lug 16 penetrates one of the orifices 13 of the slideway 12. So that it is possible without difficulty to modify the position of said assembly with respect to the slideways 12, the orifices 18 of these slides, in which the pivots 8 are engaged, are given an elongated shape.
By constituting the lever 14 by an angled lever, the upper end of which carries a handle 15, it is possible for the person sitting on the seat to slide the whole of the seat on the slides 12 after having raised the lever 14. In FIGS. 1 and 2, the seat occupies its most advanced position with respect to the slides 12, while in FIG. 5, the seat has been moved back a little.
If the backrest is tilted forward, the frame 1 and the cushion 2 are also moved in the same direction, as already known, because the frame 1 slides along the rails 7 (Fig. 2).
